Showers!

Someone was asking me about showers and evaporation, all that.

My experience w/ the black plastic / evaporation routine is: doesn't work, big headache, many regrets.

I am thinking, "so many people... so many soapy butts... simple is better". What about: people collecting / filtering / tossing their own grey water? We provide the structure and catchment (such as a big catering silverware tub, something like that, ) underneath.

The (now freshly-showered ) person grabs the catchment tub, carefully dumps it thru a sieve into a 5 gallon paint bucket, and tosses it onto the street or playa like Salvador Dali.

Last I heard, this was legal and recommended (water must be filtered - filtered goop goes into trash.) That's what I've done anyway...

Feedback?

I Just spoke to Christian. He personally had no problem with the water catchment system last year. During camp breakdown, the rolled up black plastic is rolled out to create a massive evaporation effect. He said he wanted to bring the spa again this year.

However, the black plastic is never attractive, and food, etc. does tend to find its way into the resivoir....

Meeting Thursday PM. More on this soon!

We talked about the pros and cons of evaporation fields and do-it-yourself water disposal. Essentially, the question is: How reliable are the people in camp? What happens if someone takes a shower, fills up the pitcher (is it safe to assume that the best vessel is something like a flower-watering pitcher?) and walks away...? Will there be a shower police?

In leiu of a simple answer, we decided to work on two shower stations: One built by Jeff, Joshua and Thane, with two separate stalls and a relatively large evaporation field (Shower 1). The other built by me with a single stall, and a small evaporation field (Shower 2).

Shower 2 will have the capacity for self-disposal. This is the honor system outlined by Jewel. When the small evaporation field is at capacity and needs "rest" so it can evaporate properly, self-disposal will be used. Upon arrival at shower 2, it will be clearly marked when self-disposal is required. Is this too complicated?

Regarding Shower 1: Due to limited transport capacity, we will need 2x4's to be transported on the truck from LA. The complicated, smaller bits and pieces can be fabricated in PDX and joined with the 2x4's on Playa. LA Divas, is this possible?
