Call for Fire Performers for The Art of Change Inaugural Ball!

Call for Fire Performers for The Art of Change Inaugural Ball!

Be a part of this fun and funky historic event in our Nation's Capital!

We have an amazing lineup so far of DC, Philly, VA, MD and NY fire performers... but we still have a few slots left to fill.

We are hoping to have 30 fire performers total for 5 1/2 hours of open spin time punctuated with choreographed pieces. This will give each performer roughly 12 minutes of performance time and 12 minutes of safety duties. Most likely we'll break the group up into shifts to insure everyone gets a chance to do their thing.

Music will be provided by PLF in a 30x50 heated tent. Fire performance will happen outside the tent in a 30x50 parking lot space and will be viewable through a transparent wall to the partygoers inside. It's bound to be cold, so dress accordingly- we plan to perform even if it's snowing!

The tickets for this event are $50 each... but if you sign up as a fire performer you get in free!! Performers must have fire insurance (specialtyinsuranceagency.com) info forwarded to us, bring a can of fuel and at least one duvetine.

Please contact Loup de Lou if you are interested in being part of this epic party!

Seeya there!

- Lorne

-----

Artomatic, Inc. and Playa del Fuego, Inc. – institutions of the mid-Atlantic arts community – have joined together to create this year’s most distinctive inaugural celebration, The Art of Change (www.artists-ball.org), on Jan. 20, 2009 at 8 pm. With the generous support of location sponsors The Warehouse Arts Complex (www.warehousetheater.com) and Douglas Development (www.douglasdevelopment.com), this event brings Washington, D.C., a unique opportunity to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama as President.

Tickets are available immediately for $50 at www.artistsball.org

Occupying three separate venues on the 1000 block of 7th Street, NW in downtown Washington D.C., The Art of Change will feature visual and performing arts, multiple dance floors, fire dancing and live music. DJs from across the mid-Atlantic region will be spinning an eclectic mix of musical styles on two dance floors, and in The Art of Change Galleries, displaying artworks created for this celebration. The Variety Stage will showcase performances all night long, including live music, comedy, belly dancing and spoken word poetry. And outside, attendees will enjoy fire-dance performances while dancing to up-and-coming DJs in the heated White Tent.

George C. Koch, chair of Artomatic, Inc.:
“The Art of Change is an example of the collaborative spirit within the creative community and it speaks to the desire of artists to be a full partner in the change that is taking place in our country and our community. The Art of Change brings together the progressive and creative communities to support a new vision for our creative economy.”

Dave Diller, president of Playa del Fuego, Inc.:
"We're so glad to be working in partnership with Artomatic and all of The Art of Change supporting organizations from across D.C.'s arts communities. Our organizations have long sought to break down the barriers to participation in the realm of art, and with this celebratory event we look forward to a bold new era of similar efforts in the realm of government."

In the spirit of community organizing and collaboration that President-elect Obama has come to represent, The Art of Change is being planned in collaboration with a number of supporting organizations. These include DC Burners, Dance Afire, Bethesda Theatre, Cultural Attaché, Washington Project for the Arts, 4&9 Productions LLC, Brightest Young Things, The Pink Line Project, Capitol Riverfront BID, and Pecha Kucha.

This collaborative ethic also facilitates social engagement by making us all responsible for the creation and maintenance of our shared culture. We encourage all attendees to contribute by performing, displaying art, volunteering, or donating to make this event a success. For more information visit www.artists-ball.org.

hello, I'm new to tribe.net. I am looking to learn how to eat fire, spin poi, and become more entrenched in the fiery performing arts. Does anyone know of classes/instructors/fire eaters that would offer private instruction, etc? I'm moving out of the area in August and there seem to be no fire eaters where I'm headed :-(.
Thanks!

Hello,

I'm new to the DC/ Maryland area, originally from New York. I'm trying to meet new people down here, and I saw this tribe group. I'm interested in taking Burlesque classes, is anyone else? If you drive, I can pay for gas! If you have a hybrid, I'll pay for, er.... snacks?

Best,
HIPS Benefit - Call for Performers!

Please help us spread the word!

HIPS is seeking performers for our 2nd annual Variety Show at the Palace of Wonders on November 16th! Last year this event packed the house and raised over $3,000 for HIPS programs assisting sex workers in leading healthy lives.

HIPS is seeking performers of all kinds for our show (burlesque, lip-synching, bellydance, hoping, fire, aerialists, side show, drag king & queen, anything!). Performers will receive a free HIPS t-shirt, professional quality cd of pictures of their performance, promotion on our website, and a donation letter for tax purposes, and of course, the chance to be a part of a great show to a sold-out audience! Performance proposals of up to 10 minutes are being accepted!

HIPS provides counseling, education and support to individuals engaging in sex work or sex trade in the DC area. Our programs include street-based outreach, weekly support groups, HIV prevention education, counseling, assistance in crisis and a 24-hour hotline that assist sex workers in reducing their risks for violence, abuse, HIV infection, and risks associated with drug use or abuse. HIPS also does public advocacy to help reduce the discrimination and violence faced by sex workers. Last year HIPS programs made over 6,000 contacts with sex workers in the DC area, answered over 300 hotline calls and provided hundreds of hours of counseling and assistance.

If you’re interested in performing for the cause email HIPS-at-HIPS.org with information on your act, kind of equipment or support needed, and a brief performance history! We’re looking to create a unique and one-of-a-kind show!

Thanks for supporting HIPS. For more information on our programs, visit: www.HIPS.org!

Sincerely,

Cyndee Clay

hiya I used to be really into rhythmic gymnastics when I was younger and I have maintained alot of my flexibility over the years but it has faultered alot. guess I am just looking for a contortionist or hobbyist or ANYONE around d.c. who wants to practice stretching with me because it always helps to not do it alone.

I need to cover my upper torso, arms, face, etc in body paint for an upcoming show. I was wondering if people had suggestions on what kind of product is best to use? Anybody know someone who does airbrushing?

thanks....

Belladonna offers a variety of dance classes and workshops, her specialties being tribal fusion technique, sword work and dancing with fire. Weekly classes taught in Centreville, VA, are small and intimate, offering lots of individual attention. Workshops and individual specailty classes are available uppon request. Contact Belladonna for more information.

Spring/ Summer Sessions begin May 22 and 23, 2007
Tuesdays
6-7:15pm Tribal combos:
Class focused on learning short choreographed combinations of technical movements and saucy style for tribal improv dancing. This is a blend of traditional belly dance moves with a modern hip hop flavor. (full)

7:30-8:30 pm Strength training and drills:
Having trouble with your isolations? Need to build quad strength for floor work? Then this is the class for you! One hour of butt kicking, body movements and exercises to build strength and flexibility specifically for tribal fusion belly dance.

8:45- 10pm BellaTrix student troupe rehearsal

Wednesdays

6:00- 7:15pm Tribal & fusion belly dance:
This is a continuation of "Isolate and Flow", combining the technical movements you have now mastered with an introduction to choreography and the vocabulary & technique of American Tribal Style. This class's purpose is to broaden your understanding and execution of the Tribal and fusion styles of belly dance.

7:30-8:45 Isolate and flow:
Beyond the introduction to belly dance, this class will help you further your ability to isolate. As well as introduce layering and combining movements enabling you to better express the music through your dance.

I have noticed a lack of hubabubuloo here (and even in the rest of tribe.net)

well, that's all well and good.

but how are you going to hear about all the great things going on?
how are you going to meet other freaky folks who do the wierd things you do?
when are you going to stumble across that new and exciting art form that you previously unheard of?

come out, come out, whoever you are!

tell us a little bit about yourself, what you do, throw in a promotional blurb and whatnot.

really, I'm hoping to meet more than just bellydancers (no offense to the lovlies - some of my best friends are bellydancers). the idea is for a tribe that features ~all~ the DC freaky fun activities.

My friend Joshua Hoffman & i are teaming up to do a book project together!

http://www.photobyjoshua.com/tnp/

the premis: to photograph real (not just professionaly models) to show the beauty each woman, what ever shape or size!

Nudity is powerful, revealing and honest. This book features nude pictures of women in many shapes and sizes. Through this work we celebrate their beauty and individuality. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, typically these are words formed in the mind of the viewer. In an effort to offer the viewer something beyond the photographs, each woman will contribute her own words about herself and her experience posing. The combination of these elements offers the viewer not only the images of their body, but also a glimpse into their mind and spirit.

WE are looking for models!!! please contact us if you are interested :o)

Tonight's DCTribal Cafe is Cancelled! See you next month!

Hey everybody -- given the weather we're going to err on the side of safety and cancel tonight's DCTribal Cafe. If the National Weather Service is right – we’re looking at freezing rain at 6pm, we’re worried about our loyal tribal café attendees being on the roads!

But -- No Worries! We'll be back next month with an amazing line up -- Yameena and Belladonna will perform their sets in at March's cafe and Asharah will join us again in April.

So...keep your eyes open for the March 25th Tribal Café poster!

like: Will the Dems fail the test of satan and betray the anti-war
vote that brought them to office? Could it be that Hugo Chavez actually
saw the devil in Bush? Does D.C. need an exorcism? How can you beat the
* Flames! Let's make the Devil feel a false sense of comfort by wearing fire inspired clothing (red, orange, yellow...) and bringing all the fire performers we know.
* Inventive characters that can play in to this dramatic struggle between good and evil in times of war.
* Let us know you're coming and how you plan to plug in! Contact:: nbloch(at)igc.org

D.C. Area Artist Healthcare Meet-up

reposted from the Dance/Metro DC list -

Monday 10/30/06, 7-9PM -- Round House Theatre Education Center, Silver Spring, MD
RSVP: adam.natale@fracturedatlas.org or 212-277-8023
Healthcare insurance in the United States is expensive, inaccessible, and confusing… And no one knows it better than artists. We are victims of a system that locks us out and prevents us from obtaining the care we need.
But, there is strength in numbers. Artists in the D.C. area are joining forces to address this problem head-on. We need your help.
The national arts organization Fractured Atlas (www.fracturedatlas.org) is working to have an affordable healthcare plan available to D.C.-area artists by mid-2007. But, the first step towards reaching this goal is collecting the data needed to negotiate competitive rates with insurers.
That s where you come in.

On Monday, October 30th, from 7-9PM, we will be having a meet-up where you can share your thoughts,
ideas, and concerns regarding the issue. The event will be co-hosted by Dance/MetroDC, the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the League of Washington Theatres, and Round House Theatre and will be held at the Round House Theatre Education Center at 925 Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring.
Light food and beverages will be provided. We are also hoping to provide free healthcare screenings by RediClinic on a first-come, first-served basis.
Seating is limited, so please RSVP by Friday, 10/27 to adam.natale@fracturedatlas.org with your name and artistic discipline (dance, theater, film, etc) and place “RSVP” in the subject line. You can also call Fractured Atlas directly at 212-277-8023 to reserve your spot.
And, if you haven t already, please take a few moments to complete our online healthcare survey at: www.fracturedatlas.org/healthcare/survey.
Your input will be the critical first step towards improving the quality of life for those who, like yourself, enrich the lives of others.

Directions to the Round House Theatre Education Center (ample free parking is available):
Metro: Red Line to Silver Spring
The Center is located approximately two blocks from station. Metro riders should walk northwest on Wayne Avenue towards downtown Silver Spring. We are located at 925 on the ground floor of the Montgomery County parking garage.
From the Capital Beltway (I-495)
Take either the Georgia Avenue or the Colesville Road exit south toward Silver Spring.
From Georgia Avenue
Follow Georgia Avenue south into downtown Silver Spring. After several traffic lights you will cross Colesville Road. Make a left turn onto Wayne Avenue at the light. The parking garage is on your left. The center is on the ground floor.
From Colesville Road
Follow Colesville Road south into downtown Silver Spring. You will cross Sligo Creek Parkway, Dale Drive, and Spring Street and then make a left turn onto Fenton Street at the light. The second light will be Wayne Avenue. Turn right on Wayne Avenue.

Dance/MetroDC Director's Note to the Dance Community-
I realize this event falls on the same night as the Celebration for Mary Day at the Kennedy Center and I apologize in advance if this causes concern. Please join us if you are free as it will be beneficial for them to hear from the dance community! I will put out notes from the meeting.
Thank you,
Johanna Seltzer

not much going on conversation wise here...but

I figure I would post my own bits about what's going on.

it looks like this tribe has morphed into a promo tribe, which, is relatively fine by me. of course, the whole rest of the tribe-o-sphere is basicly a big promo machine as well.

here's one more blurb about what I'm doing these days...

I've received several requests to start the beginner doumbek classes back up!

I'm starting up my second semester of drum classes this week, starting Wednesday (tomorrow!!!)!

classes are from 7pm till 8:30pm - 1.5 hours for $15.

they are designed to help you build a solid foundation, and should be easy for anyone to hop in.

also, there has been some murmuring of and indoor drum jam on Thursday nights while the fire artists are spinning outside. since we have neighbors, unfortunately, we can't be drumming outside. but still, having drummers nearby really adds something amazing!

so folks, let me know if you are interested/planning on coming out on Wednesday or Thursday or both!!!!!

I'm going to cross post this in about a million places too, but feel free to pass the word on as well

oh, and one last thing! if you are interested in intermediate Arabic drumming, or any other style of drumming, I know of several other great percussionists in the are who I could pass you on to!

thanks for reading!
let me know if you have any other questions!

Hooping Lessons, Demos and Fun -- Thur., August 24th in COLUMBIA, MD

Please join me and a handful of absolutely adorable, really talented hoopers this coming Thursday, August 24th , from 7-8:30 p.m. for an evening of hooping lessons, demos and general F-U-N. If you've never hooped before and swear you can't hoop at all, then I bet you've never tried hooping with the new type of custom-made hoops available today: they are high-calibre, heavy, adult-sized hoops.

This is a family-friendly event, and hoopers of all abilities and ages are welcome.

If you have a hoop already, please bring it to use. The event is free for people bringing their own hoops, children under four and "curious onlookers." If you want a rent a hoop, they'll be available for $5. Plus, if you want to buy your own hoop, two professional hoopers and hoop-makers (Talia, aka Miss Joule and a performer at the newly opened Palace of Wonders; and Noelle, aka HoopingPowers, recently awarded Hoop Master of North Avenue and a hoop instructor at Glen Echo Park, among other venues) will be selling hand-made hoops in the range of $18 - $50. Cash or checks only.

Hey, I hope to see you this Thursday. Feel free to pass along this email to folks who might be interested.

The event is in Columbia, Md. off of Marsh Hawk Way.

The University of Maryland was kind enough to ask me to come give a lecture this week, so I am flying into D.C. on Wednesday morning. Since funding for the temporary sculpture commission did not quite come through, and I had already booked my airline / accommodations, I seem to have two open days, and thought it might be nice to connect up with the community, learn about some fun things to do / places to go while I am in town.

Wanna come out and play?
[please contact me through my profile directly]

My only plans at the moment are do go check out the Hirschhorn Museum [as I have not been there in quite some time], and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial sculpted by Maya Lin.

Ciao,
Fredrick

Sorry for the xpost - ATS Class interest?

I am looking to start up a formal "pure" ATS (not to be confused with P.U.R.E.) class after I return from the FC General Skills certification weeklong next month. Before I jump in and commit myself to studio rental, I thought I would poll the DC Tribal folks and see if

a) there is any interest in such a class
b) what day/time has the least conflicts

For those who do not know me, I was an original member of Devyani in Birmingham, AL before moving to the DC area last year. I am going to SanFran in a few weeks for the general skills certification with Carolena and hope to schedule the second half of teacher certification as soon as possible/practical. My class(es) will be 100% FatChance/Devyani style ATS improv. At first I will be offering a "basics" level class focusing on the posture and foundation moves of ATS. Since it is the format that I know and love, I would imagine that my class description & progression will be based on Devyani's class structure. Of course, after spending a week at the FC studio, that may change a bit. :)

At the moment I do not have a studio space, so I realize that any response to this can/may be affected by where and when the class ends up happening.

So - anyone intrigued?

The next Soul Fire Inside is this Saturday, May 13! It's a full moon, so
be prepared for a powerful evening...

We are very pleased to have Marcus Sims joining us that day to offer
a Taketina workshop at Seekers Church from 12-3pm. "Taketina is a
musical group journey that bring us into the Now...the present moment
where life really occurs." See below for more info and how to register.

We will be building the temple from 3:30-6pm with a community potluck
from 6-7pm. Please contact Moshe Adler at rainbowspider222@yahoo.com
if you'd like to be part of the SFI set up team.

This month, Mz Imani will be bringing the magic of the fire to the
Full Moon Service at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in NYC -- and will
not be at SFI. Katy will also be away this month. So, please come and
support Moshe, Gary, Debby, and Natalie as we light the soul fire
within to honor the light of the moon.

For pics of recent SFI's, visit http://consciouscollaborations.com/SFI/fotosbbash/

Do you ever feel like you are sleep walking around? That somehow you
are shut out and cut off from the joy (and pain) that life offers us.
Taketina is a musical group journey that brings us into the Now, the
present moment where life really occurs. Through moving our bodies in
rhythm, stepping, clapping, and singing, we can gradually shut down
the constant chatter of our minds, and open ourselves to feeling and
sensing our internal universe, and finding our inner truth. Awakening
to our inner worlds, the outer world becomes clearer and brighter.

“I spent most of the next day with friends, finally relaxed. We ended
up learning TaKeTina, which is wonderful. . . . The repetitive rhythm
was very soothing to me and by the time it ended I felt more present
in my body than I have in months. Ron looked at me and said "welcome
back!" I've been out of it for months and still don't fully
understand why, but as of that moment, it was over. I felt connected
to my senses and everything was just so vivid and intense and
beautiful.”
Anais, workshop participant

“Humans on all continents and in all times have found awareness of
rhythym to be a pathway into sacred presence. Through movement,
clapping, vocals and percussion, Taketina opens us beyond our cocoon
of habitual thinking and perception, and into the mystery of being
intensely alive and profoundly awake. As teacher and group leader,
Marcus Sims brings a quality of sensitivity, care and wisdom that
makes this meditative journey both safe and deeply transformative. I
highly recommend the process, and Marcus, as trusted guide!”
Tara Brach
founder and senior teacher of the Insight Meditation Community of
Washington, psychotherapist and author of Radical Acceptance-
Embracing Your Life with the Heart of a Buddha

Marcus Sims is certified as an Advanced Taketina teacher, and
continues study with Reinhard Flatischler, the Austrian master
drummer who developed Taketina. Marcus lives and works near
Washington, DC, and spends his time designing and building furniture,
gardening, and playing music. He brings an open heart and an
affection for the ‘beginner’s mind’ to his mission of re-membering
the power of rhythm into our communities and culture.

Jason Walker is a multi-disciplined percussionist with over twenty
years of training and experience and a 1996 graduate (BM percussion
performance) of the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT. He
currently studies Afro-Cuban rhythms with master percussionist Sam
Turner and Ashiko with Baba Taiwo Duvall. Jason’s music can be found
in a number of settings, including performance, recording,
therapeutic intervention, dance accompanist, and group and private
instruction.

Check out our Featured Acts!

Miss Saturn
Miss Saturn combines vaudeville antics, saucy burlesque, audience interaction, impeccable timing, sparkling costumes, wigs, accents, and booty shakin' music into a wild burlesque ride out of this universe. She has wowed audiences across NYC in top venues such as Arlene's Grocery, ARS Nova, CBGBs, The Coral Room, The Cutting Room, Deep Dish Cabaret, Joe's Pub, La Mama, Low, The Marquee, PS 122, The Slipper Room, and The VaVa Voom Room. They are the perfect combination of comedy and burlesque – and Lobster Boy is bringing them to you!

Jesus Christ
King of Kings, this comedian is kicking it Old Testament with plenty of jokes about the last Seder he attended. We hear he is planning a matzah taste test and possibly a naughty stylistic disrobing dance. Will Elijah spoil his plans? Who knows? Oh yea - God does.
This is one bad-ass puppet. Need we say more?

And many more!!!!

ARTY GRAS!!! Tuesday Feb 28th

Mardi Gras is coming -- are you looking for a cool (and supportive) alternative to getting daquiris spilled all over you at Lulu's???

Come join us at ARTY GRAS!!!!

This Tuesday, Feb 28 is the start of Arty Gras at the Warehouse Gallery, an art exhibition and sale of works by displaced New Orleans artists. This exhibit is curated by my dear friend Beth Baldwin.

Opening on Mardi Gras with the Arty Gras Gala, a New Orleans-themed party, there will be beads and King cake and a live band and a raffle and all sorts of merriment.

I know some people have already made some Mardi Gras plans, but if you can, please stop by at some point in the evening -- it runs from 7:30-11:00pm. The exhibit and sale will continue through March 19th, so if you can't make it the 28th, please check it out during the run of the exhibit.

Just the Facts:

What: Arty Gras Gala
When: 7:30-11:00 pm, Tuesday February 28th
Where: The Warehouse, 1019 Seventh St. NW, Washington, DC 20001
Metro: Yellow Line, Mt Vernon Square/Convention Center Station
Cover: NO COVER, but bring your checkbook -- all artworks are for sale (some for as little as $20)! The majority of the proceeds will go back to the artist while a portion will go to Habitat for Humanity's Gulf Coast reconstruction efforts.

Finally, even if you can't make it, please feel free to let other people know who might be interested! We're really trying to make this a huge party deserving of New Orleans!

Thanks to you all and I hope to see you at ARTY GRAS!!!

inspiration needed!

I'm in need of a little inspiration. Here's the deal. I started a circus club at my college (american university). Now that i'm all official and this stingy-ass school is acctually giving me money, I need a logo. This is something we'll put on posters and shirts and sooner or later letterhead. I was thinking of incorporating the name into the design. Officially we are American Circus. So i was thinking, a monkey juggling the stars on the american flag, or maybe something where a donkey and elephant in clown noses are juggling clubs or maybe balancing the monkey on their sholders while he spins his tail around like poi. but i dont know exactly. Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking it will be a little tounge and cheek on the patriotic idea..... being in dc and all....
please help!

hula hooping

Hey everyone! I've been involved in all kinds of fire and circus shows for 5+ years.. I took a bit of time off after moving to DC and my focus has shifted a little. I have weekly hoop gatherings at my house for anyone who wants to learn how to hula hoop (and do tricks and such). I'm also a big believer in building your own props so we can help people make their own hoops (regular or collapsible). Of course, the winter months tend to focus more on building stuff then getting outside and hooping! But that will of course shift back to hooping once it gets warmer..

LOBSTER BOY’S ALIEN LOVE FEST

LOBSTER BOY’S ALIEN LOVE FEST
Out Of This World Burlesque at Chief Ike’s Mambo Room!
Sunday, February 12th @ 8:00 p.m.
One Night Only!

Let the invasion begin! Lobster Boy and his body snatching side acts feature New York’s most infamous burlesque heartbreaker - Jo Boobs!

Gifts from Cupid! Magical Tramps! Romantic Film Shorts! Kama Sutra! Only $15! Lobster Boy invites you to entertain your favorite extraterrestrial with brand new acts from burlesque super-duo Trixie Little and The Evil Hate Monkey, opening rock n’ roll from Planet Baltimore’s The Degenerettes, and a free alien implant. Don’t miss it!

Featured Acts!

Jo Boobs
Nobody knows burlesque like Jo Weldon (a.k.a. Jo Boobs). She’s accompanied some of New York's most innovative performance artists into the national neo-burlesque scene, developing the outrageous, sexy, versatile persona of Jo Boobs along the way. Jo has produced as well as performed, presenting the infamous "Hubba Hubba Hey! A Burlesque Salute to the Ramones" at the Bowery Poetry Club, "Le Follies Fromage" at the legendary Coney Island Burlesque at the Beach Series, and the extremely popular series "Paperback Burlesque" in which performers are required to use lurid images and text from vintage adult paperbacks as inspiration for their performances. Doesn’t that sound like a better alternative to romance novels?

The Degenerettes
Stomp and shout! This four piece all girl garage band is straight out of Baltimore's seedy underground music scene! Members include Kristen Anchor, Rahne Alexander, Beth Wacks, and Jodie Zisow. Kristen is the founder of Charm City Kitty Club, Baltimore's world famous queer cabaret. Rahne Alexander is a musician/comedian. Beth Wacks is a bicycle mechanic and Jodie Zisow is training for the next roller derby. The Degenerettes perform smokin’ hot originals, unlikely covers, and an irresistible backbeat that will get your booty shaking. This is rock n’ roll that you can fall in love with!

Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey
Trixie Little and her nemesis the Evil Hate Monkey have performed at Tease-O-Rama in Los Angeles and The New York Burlesque Festival. They produce burlesque shows in Baltimore at the Otto Bar and Patterson Theater. Apparently, a random bolt of lightning turned Trixie into a superhero, her pet monkey into a super villain, and formed lifetime enemies at the same time. Watch as this evil monkey and sexy superhero turn an ordinary bar into a wrestling ring before your very eyes!

Miss Minx
Minx's Granddaddy used to say, “You got your grandmama’s gypsy eyes and just like her your going to wander off and not come back”. Darn Nabit he was right! Born in Kiln, Mississippi and raised in New Orleans, Minx left home at 15 to seek her fortune and has not stopped moving since. She’s the type of girl to teach you how to hunt for extraterrestrials while making it fun and sexy at the same time!

And Many More!
Including the spellbinding magic of the Mystery Tramp! The maddening music of Fullbladder! The ever-sarcastic Cardgirl! Cindy the Mermaid and (of course) Lobster Boy!

Lobster Boy’s Alien Love Fest will be presented at Chief Ike’s Mambo Room; Sunday night, February 12th, at 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Chief Ike’s is located at 1725 Columbia Road, N.W. in Adams Morgan. Admission is $15. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at http://www.lobsterboy.net. For more information, call (202) 462-6331.

LAST DAY TO PRE-REGISTER FOR CARMINE'S DRUM WORKSHOP!

We have gotten a surge of registrations for both workshops! We still have a few spaces available. Several people have contacted me and asked me to put them on the list for paying at the door, and we will take them on a first come first serve basis! I will hate to turn anyone way! This is such a good opportunity for folks in the DC area to get a really solid middle eastern drumming foundation. I can't gush on enough about what a good teacher Carmine is. (he's blushing right now, I can tell).

The Hafla promises to be an amazing show and party! Everyone will get a chance to play and dance! And ZarbeK the band will be rolling out our latest song! Not to be missed! You can say you were there, and you heard it first! There are no spectators at ZarbeK Studios (ok, maybe a few ;-) The party will go on till everyone is gone!

Just Hear about this from the wash post - It's kind of a performance art piece that is looking for participants -
http://www.hirshhorn.si.edu/programs/herring.html

Forty to sixty residents of the greater DC area are needed to perform simple tasks as a group over the course of eight hours on Saturday, April 29, 2006.

The museum is seeking volunteers who are interested in exchanging creative ideas and developing a sense of community through the arts. We hope to build a group of volunteers ranging in age from teenagers to seniors and representing different professions and interests. This will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

I am interested in learning, but have been putting it off for years. I have read how to build my own starter pair, but my experience has shown it's typicly better to study w/ experienced people.

I started out (eons ago) as a dancer. then I started playing music. then I got hired by a circus to play in their band. then I picked up some other sideshow arts. where did that downward spiral begin? who knows. who cares.

what I ~do~ want to know is - Where can I learn more!!

who out there teaches what?

I wanna know! I wanna learn!
