Our Instructors and Class Descriptions
Latifa, Exploring Folkloric, 12:30 – 2:30: Latifa presents her folkloric sampler. Discover the flirty, playful, exuberant styles at the root of our dance through Khaleejy, Nubian and Moroccan schikatt. Learn the cultural context of each dance and then let the experience come to life as we discover the movements and the music. Become the educated dancer you were meant to be! Latifa is known for her musicality and expression. A life-long student of Middle Eastern studies, she holds a master's degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and has traveled to the Middle East several times to study dance, culture, and the Arabic language. Rachel Kay Brookmire, Egyptian Oriental Combinations, 2:45 – 4:45: Back by popular request- Rachel wowed us with her challenging Egyptian combinations and left us wanting more. Join us for performance enhancing instruction, and exciting combinations to catapult your dance to the next level! Rachel is the founder and Creative Director of Sahara Dance, DC's Center for Middle Eastern Dance. A sought-after performer and instructor, Rachel specializes in modern Egyptian raqs sharqi. She has shared the stage with international artists including Lebanese pop stars Nancy Ajram and Fadel Chaker.
