Hello all,
I am interested in becoming a certified belly dance instructor this summer, I have been performing for a year, and many people ask me if I give lessons, but i do not yet professionally. I ask my university if i could teach there but they said i need a CV.
Are there any places i can get certified in in Mary land or the general DC Metro area?
How long does it take to get certified?
Thanks so much! Appreciate your help

Re: Good place to get certified in belly dance in the DC Area
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 3:35 PMMy teachers each have over 35 years professional experience under their belts.
The quality studios in the area all require a good number of years in the dance before coming a teacher. How many years do you have, Sonia?
If you want to teach a fitness based belly dance class- then you don't need as many years in (5 years serious study?) and you can simply continue to take classes (where do you take, BTW?), and maybe get a group certification through ACE. :) -

very reputable certification program. You have to get you CPR first and study hard of course. :D

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 5:48 PMVeda Sereem is training teachers. It looks as though it is by studying the DVDs.

Piper in the Baltimore area is doing it.

I have had classes with Veda & Piper & l like & respect them both. They both seem to be very organized and thorough.
There are some people around here teaching Suhaila Salimpour format. I don't know much about her format.
I am intrigued by Keti Sharif's certifications. Also DVD based. A bit more travelling for the testing though. Although I have seen places in the US to do it. I have one Keti Sharif DVD & like it.

Isn't Sahara Dance training teachers too?

Re: Good place to get certified in belly dance in the DC Area
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 1:25 PMMaybe Yasmin's two yr course would suit you. It's for professional dancers, as opposed to teachers, but would probably be a good thorough complement to an ACE certification.

Sun, May 18, 2008 - 1:45 PMAll your ideas are great, Edwina.
I can speak from experience about Yasmin's professional level course. :D It requires an audition to get in so a dancer needs to have a certain level of education and training under her belt before starting her professional course. I highly recommend it.
