Mosaïque Presents

Raks Assaya: Women's Egyptian Cane Dance

Workshop with Katayoun

Discover feminine grace through strength, coordination and balance in the context of joyous movement!

This spirited folkloric dance from Upper Egypt (Saidi region) teaches balance, coordination and control. We will explore typical maneuvers and concepts then progress to more challenging combinations, including how to capture the flavor of the dance with your own unique style and personality. As we work on proper cane technique we will incorporate the characteristic belly dance movements and energetic Saidi steps. As time and student ability allow, group choreography, staging, and double cane maneuvers and concepts will be explored. A limited number of dance canes will be provided for use during class. Suitable for all levels, ages 13 and up.

Fee: $40
Sat. 9/26, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Location: Senior Center at Cascades, 21060 Whitfield Place, Sterling VA, 20166.

Space is limited. For more information or to register: www.mosaiquecenter.org/2.html
