Lets get together to support ongoing Burner projects in Peru, the Midwest, the East Coast and other places around the world. Suggest some projects you would be interested in gifting to the community, large or small! We have a lot of talent in the area and ingenious solutions to quirky problems and we all know how to throw a great celebration afterwards!

There is no cover, just come and belt out your favorite tunes and rock the house with other Burners. The sound system will be set up from 7-10:30 with Zoe the karaoke hostess who has a list of songs that's miles long and George the fantastic bartender. There will be a display with information about some of the past and current BWB projects and a jar if you care to throw in support for those projects and the Burners working on them.

The Chill Spin Zone is a low-key, safe place for spinners and dancers of any skill level. It is both a learning and a teaching environment as well as a non-competitive play space. There will be music, workshops, classes and freeform fun throughout the weekend. Look for us in the Elyssium Fields.

The Chill Spin Zone and Skillz Exchange is brought to you by Philosopher's Stone, Bubble Camp, Ripe and Juicy and many wonderful and giving teachers from all over Mysteria. It is a unique opportunity to teach, learn, connect and share in a cooperative and safe space from a variety of amazing teachers and performers. It is also a great opportunity to make friends and build community. And the first step to organizing it is a Call For Teachers!!!

Everyone has something to teach. Everyone has something to learn.

What do you have to share? Mysteria needs you!

Please let us know what you'd be interested in sharing. If there is a time or day that's better for you, let us know that too. Once we get everyone's feedback, we will make a schedule of workshops that will be posted online as well as in the Chill Spin Zone. TITS will also be announcing upcoming workshops throughout Mysteria.

Here is a list of the workshops that were offered last year. Let's use this as a framework to build upon. Feel free to share something new and different or sign on to teach one of these amazing skills:
- Staff
- Double Staff
- Fire Fans
- Hooping
- Tribal Dance
- Poi
- Fire Eating

Please indicate what skill level you are interested in teaching (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) and sign up even if someone else has already volunteered. More is better! If there is something unique about the workshop you want to teach, give us a little information about that also.

So what do you have to share?

www.wickermanburning.org

I wanted to let everyone know about a new burn, and I am part of the planning team for it, so my opinion is biased!

The burn is "Wicker Man," to be held Thursday through Monday, Memorial Day weekend; and we have a setup weekend, the weekend before. We are trying to lay the groundwork that will grow into a full-on burn, with an amazing site, roads for art cars, a $4,000 art grant budget and plans for a stupendous effigy.

We will be using Four Quarters as our site, which has the rep as one of the most edgy and progressive non-profit camps on the east coast. They have given us their full support for Wicker Man. Four Quarters has a piped water system, hot showers, flush toilets and of course port-a-potties. Buried power lines for their bio-fueled camp generator, a covered stage and three swimming holes. Lots of camping under tall trees and out in the sun too. And 2 miles of gravelled roads. Four Quarters is located 100 miles west of DC and Baltimore, just off I-68.

We want to develop a burn that is art focused and will support big art. And one that has a vision of the future of burns that is sustainable, ecologically responsible and leaves behind a small foot print. Thus "Wicker Man;" the old celebration of the Green Man and Green energy. We already have over 20 theme camps and art projects registered, and we are just beginning our announcements. We plan to have three "Theme Towns." "Sound Town," where we can run sound all night long, like the Gaian MInd psytrance festival held at Four Quarters. "Sin City" down along the river, a cure for what ever ails you. And "Center Circle," a place for nature and spirit; held inside the amazing stone circle at Four Quarters. (Yes, there is a circle of standing stones and they are BIG!)

And then there is the Man. Planned at 35 feet high our man stands on a round Temple to the Spirit of Fire, a big enough room that you can enter and place your own art and offerings to the burn. The roof of the temple is a deck upon which stands the Man, and people can stand too.. His belly is the Upper Temple, with room for just one person at a time. Each of his arms will hold a flaming fire pot, and we hope, will move as he burns. This is a huge project and we are looking to get as many people involved in his construction as possible. Ground breaking for the Man is Friday, May 9th, and then the next two weekends until he burns.

I could go on and on, but our web site is up, with the first design drawings for the Man, pictures of art grant projects and theme camps. We have a list serve / forum too. So visit the web site at wickermanburning.org for much more info.
Having been a participant in the Inner Circle at Burning Man and at other burns, I can tell you that it is truly an honor and a priviledge. A real gift of sharing to the community. So if your headed to Wicker Man and are interested in being a special part of the burn event this is a great way to participate.

So shout out if your are ready to strut your stuff as an experienced and talented Fire Performer or Fire Dancer or if your are interested in participating on our Fire Safeties Crew. No worries, for those that have interest but are not quite ready to perform, your help is needed as a Fire Safety. And yes, for those with no experience as a Fire Safety, we will teach you !!

There will be a mandatory coordination meeting for those that are interested in participating which will provide all the details, as well as training for Fire Safeties on Saturday @ 2:00pm. At this meeting you will recieve your placard pass which will allow you access and the honor to be in Wicker Man's "Inner Circle".

My friend Steve is looking for donations of oven mitts for his Burning Man art project. Each donated mitt will get you a chance to win a Burning Man Ticket!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Howdy Everyone!

In case the word hasn't gotten out yet, Burning Man decided my art
proposal was just silly enough...
http://www.burningm an.com/installat ions/08_art_ honor.html# shrine_mitt

I guess being the Giant Oven Mitt Guru has some value after all!

As part of the project my buddy Major Mallet and I have decided to
raffle a BM ticket, in exchange for Oven Mitts. Let those Oven Mitts
escape the kitchen!

If you have an oven mitt or two (or 300) that you are willing to part
with, you MIGHT just win yourself a ticket to Burning Man 08. Here's
the deal: Martini Steve, Killbuck and I are looking for oven mitts to
adorn our "Shrine to the Oven Mitt" art project:

http://www.burningm an.com/installat ions/08_art_ honor.html# shrine_mitt

We need lots of mitts to decorate the shrine appropriately.
Furthermore, we just also happen to have a spare ticket to the event.
Instead of just selling the ticket and purchasing the mitts we need,
we thought it would be more in tune with the spirit of the event to
encourage participation. So we are going to give the ticket to a
randomly chosen person from the pool of people who send us mitts.

How do you participate? Send your mitts and a note with your real
name, playa name (if you have one), mailing address, phone number and
email address to:

Steven Goodman
The Way of the Mitt
100 N Whisman Road, #1924
Mountain View, CA 94043

Email "steve at StevenGoodman. com" if you need a phone number for your
shipment.

Donations received on or before the June 14th 2008 (Flag Day - the
theme is the American Dream, afterall) will be registered for the
raffle. We will announce the winner (Playa name only) on this ePlaya
thread on June 16th. Donations received after that time will not be
eligible to win the ticket but will still be used for the project.

How will we choose a winner? You get one chance (or ticket) to win for
each different mitt you send us. Send us 18 different mitts – you get
18 chances to win. Send us 4 of the same mitt – get 1 ticket.
Homemade, store purchased, new or used mitts are all good with us.

We will put all of the tickets into a bowl and choose a winner and a
runner-up. The winner will have one week to acknowledge and arrange to
receive the ticket. If for whatever reason we cannot arrange the
ticket shipment / pickup with the winner, we will award the ticket to
the runner up.

How do you get the ticket? If the winning ticket holder is in the USA,
we will ship it UPS / USPS signature required. If the winning ticket
holder resides outside of the USA, we will have the ticket waiting for
you at Will Call.

Odds of winning: We have no idea – depends on how many people
participate. Taxes: The winner pays all of the taxes, duties, etc. on
this ticket. We are not liable for either a lost or misplaced ticket.
Everything else: We will just have to resolve any other problems and
concerns in good faith as they arise.
>>>>>

Thank You,
And may the Mitt be with You!

Steven Goodman
and
Major Mallet

I have open spots in an art class for a program that I coordinate. It'd be great to get some burners to join us. Info below. RSVP to me if you want to come out.

Outdoor Drawing: Exploring Natural Forms
Sunday, April 27, 1-4 pm
Instructor: Michael Sikes
Location: Meadowlark Botanical Garden, Vienna

We'll begin in one of the gazebos with an interactive demonstration of seeing objects as a collection of shapes and forms. We'll practice drawing some basic forms as a warm up. Participants will then stroll through the beautiful 95 acre garden, directing their attention to the various shapes and forms surrounding them, and choose their own subject matter to draw. With many blooming flowers, shrubs and trees there's plenty of inspiration for all. No previous experience is necessary. Participants of all skill levels and professions are encouraged to join. Please dress for the weather as we will be outdoors.

Supplies required: sketchbook of any size; pens, pencils, or markers; pencil sharpener and eraser if needed.

About the instructor: Michael Sikes is owner and operator of Eyespeak Tattoo in Fairfax. Working as a tattooist and painter since 1995, he finds his inspiration in nature. Drawing is not only the foundation for other creative endeavors but perhaps more importantly, a gateway to understanding the wondrous complexities of the natural world. Michael is a NEST 2006 alumni.

Why: We started HacDC to give DC a place to make, build, disassemble, code, learn and do all the awesome things you can do in a "hacker space".
How: Get to our party and bring something to help build our space. Anything from:

* Tools! (Power tools, electronic test equipment, soldering irons, etc.)
* Electronics (working and non-working things we can disassemble!)
* Food and Beverages (to keep us going while we work on projects!)

We're also looking for charter members, people who are dedicated to building a stronger DIY/Hacker community in DC. We are a non-profit DC organization seeking 501(c)(3) status, and all of our work goes directly back into the community through educational, scientific and cultural channels.

Is there any interest to hold a basic poi class? I've been picking up moves through my fire conclave, but I'd really benefit from a solid class - with one teacher showing us a series of moves. It'd help me to dedicate more time to practicing! Soooooo, I'm happy to coordinate. If you're a beginner fire spinner or willing to teach, drop me a note. I'd LOVE to hold the classes at my house in Fairfax, as that would be super easy on my life but I'm willing to drive. I have a large yard we can use and indoor space as well.
Please join us for Fire in the Belly II on March 26th, 2008. We are having a fundraiser for Kaihea at the Palace of Wonders in Washington, DC. Kaihea is a fusion belly dancer and fire performer in the Washington D.C. area who has been battling a serious illness for a couple of years. For the first time ever at the Palace of Wonders, the fire and belly dance communities are coming together on stage to show their support and help raise funds for her medical bills. The show will include 17 acts, both with and without fire, by performers from near and far, and will be well worth the cost of admission, even if it wasn't for such a great cause. Join us for a wonderful evening of dance, fire, music, and celebration of life.

Performances by Sera, Eugenia, Samira, Alexis, Belladonna, Mavi, Bronwen, Na'la, Hilary, Asharah, Cari, Loup de Loup, Malibu, Ignytor, Silver Raven, Alazka, Ebony and Kaihea herself!
Flights of Fire returns to keep you toasty warm on a cold winter’s evening!

This time it will be FRIDAY, January 11th at 9:30PM.
You can expect another hot, sexy night with 9 performers heating up the stage all in one show! You’ll see original acts showcasing our mad skills with fire poi, flaming hula-hoops, fire fans, fire torches, fire staves, LED hoops, flags, fire swords, and triple fire poi.

Joining us once again will be the amazing Malibu with her unique perspective on fun things to do with fire. Miss Joule is back after a couple of months away, and she’ll be hotter than ever. Also returning will be Aaron, teaching us just how cool being hot can be. Inspyra will be hooping it up with both fire and lights, so bring your sunglasses. Lunar is returning with a high-energy, mind-blowing fire poi performance. Silver proves that you don’t have to be a woman to look sexy with fire fans. And if our usual fire tools are exciting enough, we will be letting Loup de Loup with his fire staff take the stage (and your breath away). Cari will show us her own futuristic version of fire staff and UV flags. Silver Raven might just melt your heart with her icy, snow queen fire poi performance, and if that doesn’t work, she’ll try to finish the job with her fire sword. And last, but far from least, The Baffling Boogeroso will once again emcee this hot show!
It's a jam-packed, truly unique experience you won't get anywhere but The Palace!!!!

We of the DCBurner Choir are in the first stages of planning our most ambitious and audacious production yet..."Craigslist: The Musical!"

On January 4th, the DC Burner Choir will be holding a Happy Hour/Casting Call at The Big Hunt. The idea is to get together and throw around a bunch of ideas for the Spring production, to meet new people who want to be a part of the show, and to generally have a good time and get motivated for our first writing session/practice in the next two weeks.

WHAT: DC Burner Choir Happy Hour/Casting Call/Casting Couch/Orgnizational Clusterfuck
WHEN: Friday 4 Jan starting at 7PM
WHERE: The Big Hunt: http://www.thebighuntdc.com/
WHY: We need fresh meat!
HOW: TBH is close to the Metro Red Line Dupont Circle...lotsa cabs in the area too. And the Number 43 bus!

We need all sorts of folks...you don't have to be able to sing to be a part of the show. We need actors as well. And somebody to do the music. And somebody to do grunt work. The best part of it is practices tend to be a lot of fun...very social...lots of play and lots of work all mixed together in a wonderful salad of musical comedy fun.

We are going to be practicing each Wednesday for several hours (typically 7-10 PM) in the DC area (we rotate practice space) starting in Jan. The show will make its debut at Playa Del Fuego in May 2008. We may also do more performances around the area, since who wants to waste all of that hard work. "Z-Spot, the Zombie Musical" was done in 3 performances in DC and at Burning Man, where we were a monster hit.

Hello fellow burners!

The Porno Jim Show of NYC is hitting the road and we would love to meet some of you and entertain you!

What IS The Porno Jim Show??? well...

The Porno Jim Show is an hilarious exploration of the state of
pornography here in the 21st century. Come hear Porno Jim explain why
we need more female orgasms in porn, why Belladonna is the greatest
porn star in the world, and how the right porn can improve your sexual
skills. (We suggest you bring a date!) These ideas are illustrated
with a unique collection of video clips ranging from the unbelievably
sexy to the truly bizarre.

Porno Jim believes that America Needs Better Porn. So much of today's
pornography is bland, formulaic crap that it is stunting the growth of
the sexually inexperienced people in our country. How are men and
women ever going to get good in bed if the only examples they see are
unrealistic and boring? Fortunately, there is some great porn being
made today, and The Porno Jim Show will help you find it!
