If you are a Horror Movie fan and an Activist- this is the tribe for you.....since one of our main activities is dressing up as Zombies, assembling en mass, and shambling down the steets of Seattle heckling the "Living" to protest various things.
The beauty of it is that we don't have a particular adgenda. The main thing is to instigate and inspire people to get active in their communities and government. We will be anywhere a public demonstration needs to be. Perhaps even, on the opposite side.
Dead Awake! aims for:
- A willingness to share volunteer time and resources to do public projects within our community.
- Less factionalism between local political groups. You can be a Republican, Socialist, Communist, Green Party, Anti-Imperialist, Vegan, Democratic, Anarchist and sill be Anti-War, for example.
- More openness toward controversy.
- Less exclusivity towards issues that tend to be about people who are black, white, hetero, rich, poor, queer, stupid, or cute. We are all in it together.
And most of all…….MORE FUN WORKING TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY!
We also hosted Zombie Walk in October 2005 and attracted 300 Zombies! Those events ended with rounds of beer at pubs, and were intended to be a wee bit shocking but mostly fun. There is a Zombie Walk tribe as well. Join that one too for info on Halloween 2006! If you want more info about the previous Zombie Walks, check out: www.livejournal.com/users/cleozombie/
Things are evolving for Dead awake! and I'm cooking up some more political ideas.
A) "Point of View" talk show style coffe house presentations with political art slide show.
B) I am also looking for support for a large scale "Freedom of Speech Demonstration" in Downtown Seattle.
C) A labor Union Organizer has contacted me about bringing in Zombies for labor Union protests in Downtown Seattle.
etc...
Please discuss with me your ideas for upcoming political art events! We are particularly interested in performance art ideas, 2 D art, music installations, and on-the-spot art projects.
