All
As the dire-ctor of Fluid Movement and Keytech's entries in the 2006 baltimore kinetic sculpture race,
I'm in need of a portable PA (dc powered) system for a day (5/6/06)
Need it to be, light-ish (not exceeding 50 lbs) , loud-ish and cheap-ish (buckwise).
Can't imagine spending more than $100-200 to rent for a day, as buying a Fender Passport P-250 is in the 600-700 range.

Please contact me at gavin@2goats.com

Thanks for joining the Baltimore technology tribe. I'm hoping we can jump-start a little tech-related networking here in Mobtown.

Allow me to introduce myself first. I'm the Technology Editor at Baseline Magazine, a case study magazine published monthly by Ziff Davis. What I do is sort of like IT-CSI -- I try to piece together the technology projects of big companies and governmental organizations, and analyze what went right and wrong with them and what the technical (and business) impact was. It makes good bedtime reading.

Once upon a time, I ran product reviews for Information Week. I also ran a few software developer magazines for an outfit in Palo Alto for a couple of years (until the bubble burst--and so did their advertising revenue). And before all that, I did systems integration work and database programming. I've been in Baltimore for the last 15 years.

So, how about you?

Does anyone know any local internet providers in the Columbia area who can handle DS3 lines? I've tried mdconnect.com but they never get back to me so their service already is questionable...

Anyone have any leads EXCEPT AT&T? They charge WAY too much.

Relocating and just wondering...

Greetings,

My wife and I will be relocating to the Baltimore area and so I thought I would try and do a little recon :-)

She'll be working as a nurse but I'll be looking to see what's up in the tech/music/sound design field shortly after arriving (sooner if the position really clicks) as I'll probably spend the first few months writing another album and DJing either clubs or conventions (if the opportunity opens up.)

I know everywhere it seems the industry is pretty tough out there but I thought I would at least ask. I have 15+ years experience in writing music and creating sound effects for video games, film and rich media productions (internet), have run clubs for almost as long managing, booking, promoting, DJing, live sound, etc. and have run web sites again for almost as long utilizing perl mostly and I'm in the process of moving functions to php.

Most of my work can be viewed on my site: www.cyberden.com

Aside from that - we're looking at Fells Point for a possible point to start out at renting for a while - Any clubs in FP? How's the area? I know just like any city, there are areas you definately don't want to even drive through (I was there last month checking it out and getting a quick 'tour') but it looks like FP would be a good central location for her work.

Thanks in advance for any tips/pointers.

I know some of you may be wondering how unusual it is to relocate TO the Baltimore area, but we have reasons... plus California (where we're coming from) is getting more crowded and more expensive every day :-P

hey, i know times are a little tough around the tech corridor here (or so we're told)... and i just found a site that ostensibly crawls job sites like monster and hotjobs etc. i haven't used it for more than browsing yet (still employed, yay), but it looks cool.
