Hi, I'm new to this tribe but a longtime fan of Charles DeLint. Coincidentally, I saw in the local Willamette Week newspaper that he will be appearing at Powell's Bookstore this Friday evening at the Cedar Hills Crossing store.

Re: DeLint in Portland Friday!
Fri, September 14, 2007 - 11:41 PMwow wow wow, what a great experience to meet someone you idolize so much and connect with them as a fellow human. It was great!!!De Lint is funny, honest, and enchanting, just like his books. He read from his new book (the young adult one) and then had a sweet Q & A where all sorts of great ?'s were asked and then book signing too!!! It was so great~ and so fun to meet you Baubo!!! You have such a beautiful and carefree happy vibration!! Some of the interesting things talked about were about how he creates his characters and stories. Like many authors I enjoy he says he meets these characters in his mind & imagination-much the same as we would meet anyone on the street-and gets to know them as the book is written. And he doesn't really have ideas of what will happen in the story but rather he said it's like he's reading the book except really slowly...that the characters just take him through it.
I asked if he'd ever had an unexplained or magical experiences that prompted him to embark on writing fantasy and he said that he was a believer but also a skeptic. That he believes such things could happen but they haven't happened to him. In discussing this with my roommate afterward, we decided that he likely was having shamanic journeys maybe in the dreamstate or something and bringing those experiences into this world through his books. Anyways, it was awesome!!!
P.S. I heard Terry Prachett was also coming to Powell's on Sept 26th...if you like him too -

Re: DeLint in Portland Friday!
Sat, September 15, 2007 - 6:33 AMSounds wonderful. He was on his book tour for "Whiddershins", when my husband and I meet him. He does have a grand reading voice. I have been trying to talk my husband into a trip to Canada so we can him and his wife , MaryAnn play music at their local pub. I think that would be just like stepping across the veil. -

Re: DeLint in Portland Friday!
Sun, September 16, 2007 - 12:42 AMOh it was so incredible! He is such a nice, personable human... I had so much fun meeting and talking to everyone, and wow I mean I talked to everyone, and I'm SURE everyone could HEAR my loud and boisterous self, heh heh! It was so wonderful to meet you in person Amaya and Lacrima, and I dint even know ry~an Hillwalker was going to be there, with his girlfriend Kristin too! And I made so many new friends, it was just fun and delightful and awesome!
One of the things I really loved was when he was saying that us de Lint readers here in the PNW are almost like a Secret Society, and we were all giggling and looking at each other like "well, yeah..."
I cannot WAIT until Monday when I see him again!
