Since all the cool kids were doing it, I thought I'd try DeLint out. Much like asking what is the best beer, I ask what is the best book to start with?

Re: Where to begin?
Wed, June 27, 2007 - 7:44 PMThe Triskell Tales1 & 2 are his very first works. They're short stories and introduce some cool characters. This is just my suggestion, but I would wait to see what more experienced readers of DeLint have to say. -

Re: Where to begin?
Wed, June 27, 2007 - 8:15 PMI started on Onion Girl and have really been satisfied with taht starting point even after reading many many other books which others prefer as a starting point. OG will get you down deep and personal real quick with a lot of the Newford Crew (the main nucleus of characters, around whom revolve many, but not all, of DeLint's works)
Another really great one to start with might be Someplace to Be Flying. It's definately one of my most favorites. Also centered around the Newford crew, featuring lots of the animal people.
I haven't read triskell tales, they've not been around in any of our bookstores..
I hope you are as enchanted by this stuff as we are nathan :)

Re: Where to begin?
Wed, June 27, 2007 - 11:28 PMOnion Girl was my first too...most recommended by a lot of folk. I love Newford stories....but i am starting now at the beginning of the tales and then I'll re read OG.
Triskell 1 is such a treat! There's Poetry & His First Stories Ever like "The Three that Came" & "The Oak King's Daughter", where he introduces Cerin the Songweaver and Meran the Dryad....they are two of my Favorite characters, I would LOVe to meet them...... -

Re: Where to begin?
Thu, June 28, 2007 - 3:15 AM"Memory and Dream" & "Blue Girl" are two good starts. I have been reading Delint since I was in middle school. He has taken me on some wonderful trips throgh the veil and back. Some of the older titles might be found thround the Subterran Press. Thats his publisher and they usually have great updates on his chap books as well. (Chap books are the books he writes for his wife , MAryAnn every year as a x-mas present) You have to check those out. They're some of his best works!!! -

Re: Where to begin?
Thu, June 28, 2007 - 6:53 AMI started with Tapping the Dream Tree (short stories) and then Moonlight and Vines (short stories) and THEN Onion Girl. I was kinda glad I read the other two first because I got to know Jilly...the main character in Onion Girl...and her friends before I got to a whole book about her. -

Re: Where to begin?
Thu, June 28, 2007 - 11:35 AMI enjoyed reading the short stories first, get a feel for Newford and for Jilly, by the time a story dedicated to her came up I was so ready for it. But really anywhere you start would be good. -

Re: Where to begin?
Fri, June 29, 2007 - 3:38 PMSounds like I'm the only one who started with his Samuel M. Key books, "Mulengro" and "Whisper to a Scream".
They were shelved under "Key" in my old local bookstore. I read a lot of horror/suspense, both of those fit the genre big-time.
Once I figured out who Samuel M. Key actually was, I grabbed every DeLint I could get my grubby little paws on! -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Where to begin?
Sat, June 30, 2007 - 4:07 PMYeah, Whisper to a Scream was freaky! Apparently his 'dark' books are penned under Samuel M. Key......so you will know.....I read it because it is a Newford story and I am reading them from the very beginning.... It was a good book.....real suspenseful.
