Here is how it works. Somebody gets the story started with some simple scenario. A character and a location. The next person takes the story and adds something. We all contribute until we have a full length short story.

The story begins with a young girl named Joy in a high rise apartment overlooking the slums between Downtown and the asian market district. Its a full moon at night, and she is studying for her classes as she is looking outside.

She laughs with delight to discover it is snowing, she has always loved snow. As she looks out the window and sees the flakes tumbling down, the bittersweet childhood memories come unbidden. Memories of playing in the snow with her parents and siblings... Building elaborate snowforts, and having gleeful snowball fights using their fortresses of snow. Rolling huge snow-boulders to make gigantic snowpeople, whole families of snow people. Falling into the snow to make snow angels over and over again, until frozen and tired they would make their way inside for cocoa in front of a roaring fire... But that was all "before"....

Before she saw him.... on the fringes of her vision, on another silent snowy night.
She had awoken from a deep dreamless sleep, thinking she'd heard the flapping of wings against her window, she'd padded to the window in fuzzy, multi-colored socked feet, and looked first to the sill to see if any little birds lay there.
Then from the corner of her eye she spotted a young man shrouded in shadow, tall, broad shouldered, standing still in the snow. She couldn't see his face, but noticed at once that he wore no coat or jacket of any kind, but he didn't look cold, and a faint wind seemed to stir his long hair, though not the snow flakes which fell around him.
      He stood....

Joy shook herself clear of the memory with a sigh; forcing her focus back to her textbook. Algebraic equations swam before her eyes.
For a few moments she continued to stare at the page, trying to process the dry mathematics... but it wasn't any use, not with Him in her head, trying to blast his way back from the past.

"Forget this!" Joy slammed the book shut and bounced up out of her seat, starting across the room for her hat and coat.
I'll go see Rae, she decided, and maybe grab a coffee. A good brisk walk will clear my head...

Does it have to be in the De Lint style?

Or can we type almost anything we feel?

    Lady Myst.

                Hey Sentience,

You have three pieces of story that other people wrote.... Shouldn't that be enough for YOU to write some more? ..... I hate to see a story die : (

She walked outside into the snow and moonlight.

Joy lived just east of the local University in a high rise apartment between the Industrial section of town, and the local Chinatown that was actually a conglomerate of east asian communities divided up into neighborhoods. Lots of Asian markets, tea shops, trinket stores, Chinese doctors, and the occasional fortune teller. There was also one nightclub where students from the University would often hang out for drinks or sometimes for all night dance parties with exotic themes. Across the street from the nightclub was a cafe and teahouse where joy would go to study or use the internet that not only served coffee but all kinds of exotic teas made by the doctor who owned the teashop next store. Joy decided she would go there on the way to catch the bus.

As she made her way there "it" started again... "No, NO! Not now, not again.", she whimpered quietly into her scarf... She turned the corner and sat down on the curb. Just then, a warm breeze wafted across her face... Her vision blurred around the edges, and her surroundings changed. She closed her eyes in abject misery and silent, useless prayer... When she opened her eyes again, the street was filled with horse drawn carriages, and the pungent smell of horse droppings assailed her nostils in the heat.
She began to sweat, then mindlessly she began to strip off her layers of protection against the winter cold... A passing mother and her young child looked at her curiously, then hurried away quickly in fear...
"Oh HELL!", Joy thought, "Now what?". "Where should I go, what should I do, who should I talk to?" She had just stood up and began to walk when....

...a small boy with sharp pointy facial features appeared at her elbow. His face was grubby with what could be soot; unkempt black hair tufted out around the rim of an 'urchin cap' which matched, in style, the somewhat ragged but sturdy-looking garments he was wearing. His large round eyes were deep moss green and seemed to be asking her a question but he didn't say anything more than, "Allo." and continued to gaze up at her expectantly...

...a large grin split his features then reaching almost from ear to ear, still silent he looked over his shoulder as if hearing somthing or someone, but when she followed his gaze all she saw were passerbys, huddled into their coats hurring like ants to their destinations. Her attention was drawn back to the boy when she felt a tug at her clothing just above her right knee, he tugged again and pulled, *Strong for such a little thing" she thought, she smiled at the child, "I- I'm sorry, but I can't you with you I- I really don't belong here," she looked around, nothing seemed familiar and panic was sliding cold fingers inside her being, "What am I going to do?" she asked the air softly....
