Re: Re-thinking public art spaces and urban living

Have you been to any of these? Some of them are really nice spaces. I've had security come by and politely inquire, but no trouble accessing them during posted hours... I love the idea of 'paraformances' in these spaces and a challenge to the idea that they are in fact 'public' - thanks for the link.
In other news: San Francisco actually has a some really great public art in general - the sculpture garden at 1 Maritime Plaza is my favorite - you can seach locations here: www.sfartscommission.org/pubar...06.htm -- this site seems to be missing the art outside private buildings (with the ubiquitous plaques stating they can make you leave at any time), but it's definintely a good start. -

Re: Re-thinking public art spaces and urban living
Tue, October 10, 2006 - 4:17 PMReally great link ,
In referance to the post "re-think public art spaces"
I love tha fact that everyone thinks of the "land" as a personal cube of their own reality. By creating a public space in your personal space, it allows you to have more interaction with humanity. (making you have more of a sence of what humanity is about)
Isolation is what make you myopic and bitter.
I love it!
Thank you so much for posting it! -

Re: Re-thinking public art spaces and urban living
Wed, October 11, 2006 - 9:31 AMI absolutly love the PARK (ing) project!
I can't stop thinking about it.
I love the Idea of the Paraformaces too , but I must admit that I hate security guys and let's face it, most of the work I do would draw their negative attention. But i can't help but want to help spread the word and draw attention to these spaces and the contract between developers and the public service. (These spaces are one way to deal with mandatory budget requirements for a return to the public good. Many developers buy a huge piece of non ofensive artwork and put it up, or install a fountain, but the really smart developers build public bench spaces that have a artistic flair. These spaces are designated to the pbublic but few of them are used by more that the building staff. It's an ingeniuos way to keep the public off your grass. Just make it look like it belongs to the building.
I think these guys are brilliant to put up a map and provide so much detailed information about them.
I'm sold.
Thanks Janine
