Would you like to have a get together? A costume ball around the end of the year?
This is what I'm thinking.
The Human Zoo Denver Love Costume Ball

This event would take place in Downtown Denver and the environment would be decorated as a jungle and everyone would dress in animal attire, Tarzan/Jane, cats and caveman and so on.

If enough of you respond to this post, I'll make it happen. I'll get the music, venue, entertainment, libations, and more.

Moving To Denver

Hello All--

I'm moving to Denver in a few months to start a new job. I won't be able to visit to rent a place, so I will have to do it sight unseen. I have pets, so the search has been difficult thus far.

I will be working downtown, so I would like to live close to work. Can y'all (from the South:) recommend any good neighborhoods with apartment buildings that accept pets? I've checked out the Belmont in Capitol Hill and Governor's Park Apartments in Governor's Park. Are either of those places nice?

Thank you so much for your time! I loved Denver when I visisted in January, and I am looking forward to moving there.

Taboot Music & Art Expo---> looking for 20 artists & 2 local bands

We are hosting the "Taboot Music & Art Expo" in downtown Denver on June 7, 2008 from noon to 2am.

The event will be held at a new music venue, "Owsley's Golden Road" and will feature 20-25 10 ft spaces for artists to display their work for sale or just for show, food vendors, alcohol, four bands (including two nationally recognized), 2 dj's, performance artists, and more. We are expecting a crowd of 600-800.

The event will be advertised in the Westword beginning the second week of May, and all over town through hand silk screened posters and handbills beginning May 1st! The headliner is Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band.

Artists of all mediums are welcome, please submit portfolios to tabootart@yahoo.com

Dress as your favorite animal.
A costume party for the animal within all of us, dare we? Why not?

I know I know, it’s a tall order to ask people to participate on that level, but what's the worst that could happen. Me alone in a bar with a drink in my hand dressed as a monkey. Hummm, it's happened before. {:~D~

"DEAD SOULS" Halloween party at Disintegration Sat Oct 27th!!

Halloween is right around the corner and Disintegration is putting on a massive party!

Disintegration was one of two places in Denver chosen to promote the new Ian Curtis/Joy Division movie "CONTROL." The promotional party, complete with give-aways, trailer clips, and more happens to fall on the same weekend as Disintegration's massive Halloween celebration. So in memory of Ian Curtis, and many other musicians and artists that have influenced our generation, Disintegration is proud to present "Dead Souls" a Halloween/Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 27 at The Atrium (554 S. Broadway).

Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the costume contest. In order to be eligble for the contest, you do need to be dressed in the theme... either Dia De Los Muertos or a dead idol of yours. :)
Values of prize packages are over $300 for 1st, over $150 for 2nd and over $75 for 3rd. We will also be giving goody bags for the first 50 costumed patrons, and there will also be a raffle containing several BPAL items!!!

If we plan on meeting from time to time shouldn't we have somekind of formal/informal introduction? Tell us about yourself. Where are you from, what do you do, your family, what area of town you're in, how kinky are you (kidding), where are some of you usual hangouts, what you enjoy doing on a night out, and anything else you'd like to add.

I'll start.

I'm Janette, a 38 y.o. divorcee w/ a teenage daughter (who is at times the Spawn of Satan, I'm convinced). I live in SouthEast Denver and own a little cigar stand in the Cherry Creek area.

When I have time to go out it's usually to dinner at someplace like House of Kabob, Cherry Creek Grille (THE best ribs in CO), Kona Grill, any Cuban restaurant, or something more casual like Thai Spice. Do movies, live theatre, comedy clubs/improv from time to time. LOVE concerts. Will gladly play anyone a game of pool, ping pong or tennis (though I suck at all 3 in varying degrees). And always up for drinks be it a hole-in-the-wall like The Piper Inn or a loungier joint like my brother's cigar bar The Robusto Room/Stogies and Bogeys.

It'd be fun to meet for coffee too, for those that don't drink, maybe on a Sunday morning.... or meet up w/ our dogs in a park for a walk.

On South Broadway between 1st and Elsworth on the east side there is a new pipe shop

I got what would easily be a 60 dollar piece for thirty bucks
inside out with sick work on it. about 4 - 5 mm thick for 30 bucks

my friend got a 2 footer tube almost a centimeter thick for 70 bucks

They had inside out double bubbler pipes for 38 bucks with nice sherlock necks

I don't know a single thing about denver, the vibe, the people, etc....

I work as a full-time nanny for twins and my employers just told me they're moving to denver in 2 months and they will do anything and everything to take me with them! Ahhh...this is crazy, I live in San Francisco and grew up here...the only other place I've lived is Belize and my husband (from Belize) and I just moved to San Francisco a year ago and are JUST getting settled to life here...

I have so many concerns and curiousities....is denver diverse?! accepting of inter-racial couples? is there a jewish community? are people nice? Is there an off-the-hook local reggae joint?!...we are a very interesting couple, we love nature, we have dreams to move back to belzie...yada yada yada...all i know is that my employers offered to increase my wage, move all my stuff to denver, find me a place to live, and fly us out to california whenever we want to see my family....so from a financial point, this sounds good...

My husband wants to become a nurse...I want to work on my masters in Early Childhood Education....what are the schools like? sorry to bombard everyone, but I feel frantic right now and like i have to make some quick decisions....THANK YOU!!!

Funky Denver Neighboorhoods to consider for a Newbie

In the next six months, give or take, I'll be relocating to Denver. My desire is to keep it urban in perhaps a transitional neighborhood, preferably older, tree-lined, diverse. As I've lived deep in the hood I'm not concerned about living in a challenging area -- with potential. I need a larger home (5+ Bedrooms) as my 'Tribe' is large, there'll be mucho guests, and I'll be doing a good deal of my work from home. I'd be up for a restoration. So those of you that 'love that Denver -- enlighten me! What do you recomend?

Denver Music Community Comes Together to Jam 4 Life

Two-Day Benefit Concert Will Help Recent Shooting Survivors

DENVER, CO - In response to the recent robbery and triple shooting on March 25, 2007 near the Light Rail Station at 25th Avenue and Welton Street in Denver, the Denver music community is holding a two-day concert, Jam 4 Life, on April 21 and 22 to benefit the shooting victims. The three victims, Ian Dumpert, 23, of Lawrence, KS; Joseph Kuebel, 23, of DuPage, IL; and John Watt, 22 of Wamego, KS, survived, but are facing mounting medical bills.

The weekend event will take place at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom at 2637 Welton Street. in Denver, CO and will feature performances by several local and regional bands as well as nationally known musicians. MFA: GMC featuring technic 9, Harmonious Junk featuring Damon Woods of The James Brown Band, Home, AAA, Schmocter, Octopus Nebula, DJ Heavyhead, and Lunar Fire will perform on Saturday. Doors for Saturday are at 6pm, show starts at 6:30. Sunday will kick-off with a bluegrass jam called Down the Mountain with many local Colorado bluegrass musicians including members of Whiplash String Band and Derailed Caboose, followed by performances from LadyFish, The Millbridge Brothers, Head for the Hills, The Denver West African Percussion Group, and Michael Travis of String Cheese Incident with his band, Zilla. Doors for Sunday are at 6:30 and music starts promptly at doors. Both shows are 18 and over.

A silent auction will offer concert-goers a chance to purchase donated memorabilia and concert tickets from several nationally known bands as well as items from a variety of local Colorado artists, musicians, restaurants, spas, and music stores.

Cost is $10 (Sat) $15 (Sun). All proceeds will go to the Jam 4 Life Benefit Fund and will be used to help the three incredibly lucky survivors get back on their feet.

The three victims were waiting at the Light Rail Station with four other friends early in the morning of March 25 when two armed men wearing ski masks approached them and demanded money. They immediately complied, handing over their wallets, but were shot anyway. Dumpert was shot in the face. Watt was hit twice in the neck. Kuebel was shot in the leg and back

The three were hospitalized in stable condition at Denver Health and Medical Center. Kuebel and Watt have recovered sufficiently from their wounds, but Dumpert sustained more extensive injuries and is facing additional surgeries and treatment.

At the time of the accident, Dumpert had medical insurance through his parents; however, his coverage expired on April 6, his 23rd birthday, due to age restrictions. New policy restrictions on pre-existing conditions will make it difficult, if not impossible, for Dumpert to acquire new insurance coverage to pay for his future treatment. The money will help pay for multiple reconstructive surgeries on his jaw, physical therapy and months of medication, in addition to helping all three make up for lost wages.
Dumpert, Kuebel and Watt were visiting Denver with four additional friends, a few of whom were planning to relocate to Denver. Dumpert still plans to move to Denver and has signed a lease on an apartment and secured employment.

Melissa Smith of Golden, CO and Jay Bianchi, owner of Cervantes, are organizing the event. The genesis of the grass-roots event is true to the organic spirit of live music.

"Hopefully we can raise enough money to help with some of these guys medical expenses, and in the process of that, gather together and rally enough positive energy towards the healing and restoration of their bodies and souls!" Smith said.

MANifesting HELP!! Need Help finding a home, a car, a job....

This year is said to be one of magic but also of making yourdreams into reality. IT has been many years since I have made this transistion to manifesting what I want. My sea of dreams is overfilled and spilling into my reality almost too fast now, wanting to live.

I am looking and dreaming and visualizing these things that I feel i need right now to account for the saftey and security values of my roots, or so to feel grounded..

If anyone can give me insight on any of these thing i would greatly appreciate it..

A PLACE TO LIVE:
I am currently looking for a housiing situation that may involve a few 1 or 2 other people in the metro denver area who are looking for a roomate,etc. These people would be very cleanly and interested in all aspects of holistic health and healing, ideally aspiring raw foodists or people interested in the topic. They would be responsoble individuals as well as fun yet leaving a calm joyful atmosphere in the house...Need I say cleanly again! The rent would be between $300-500. Ie: I would also be willing to chores and cleaning for cheaper to free rent.

A JOB OR AN INCOME SOURCE:
I know you all are creative about your income. Please tell me some tricks of the trade. I want a pretty lowkey flexible job that pays over $10/hr. Has any one ever doen that envelope stuffing? Haha.. Something in the evening would be perferable that does not go too late into the night.. Ideas anyone? I can do pretty much anything.

A VEHICLE: Need a car!!! Denver really needs a community car system. Has anyone ever got one from an auction that could help me figure out how to do it? Or know of anyone who has one. I am thinking cheap $1500 at the most.

DENTIST & DOCTOR:
My teeth need a lot of work! HOw the heck does Colorado work with low income people with no insurance who need a large amount of dental work done...? Any ideas?

Denver Music Scene Tops Boston's?

"Denver's scene is MUCH better than Boston's," according to members of the jazz-rock-fusion trio Free Live Nudes, who were visiting the Denver area over the winter semester break from Berklee where they attend school.

Free Live Nudes appeared onstage at the Out of Bounds in Loveland on Saturday night, as the opening act for i69, one of the region's most popular rock cover bands.

Free Live Nudes lead guitarist and bassist, Tyler and Brady, both affirmed the notion that Denver's scene is "much less competitive," and more "supportive" than Boston. In Boston, they say, it's nearly impossible to get anyone to see a local show, that isn't some "big" name act ... and that in order to break through, your chops have to be monster all the time. Jam-jazz-fusion also seems to be among the more popular styles of music around Boston these days, according to the band.

Free Live Nudes also appeared briefly in Denver at Kokopelli's, Cafe Cero, and Bushwackers jams while they were here on vacation ... Tyler, the lead guitarist, is a Littleton native, who once performed regularly with 69 Times, featuring members of i69 and Joy Jackson band.

Aloha!....... Denver area fellow Artists and Dancers......im visiting some family here in Denver / Boulder area......Ive never been here before.........can you fill me in on some cool things...bands....clubs ... i should check out???
........ i wouldnt mind dancing one night in a real " hip-hop / funk type club ".....just to see if denver has some west coast soul " oakland/SF " style too!......(im thinkin it does!)

.....But im mostly into dancin to "tribal-techno"...(ala: "bass-nector" or "mutators" ect...).......so any leads on that scene happening here would be way... way cool!!

.......so far people here seem very hip and grounded in a good way!

oh yah....I LOVED THE BLIZZARD!!!!..............Have a sweet Holiday............

That new art museum

I was wondering who else thought that the new art museum was hideous.

I mean, it's just so horribly ugly.

I haven't seen the inside which I'd like to, but the architecture is just ugly. I don't mind the pointiness of it, but the paneling on the exterior is ugly. And the angle from 13th that I always see it is the ugliest angle for it. I like some of it's spikiness, but. . .

Anyway, what's the inside like?? Has anybody seen it??

Political Junk (Hospital Meters)

I just wrote Mayor Hickenlooper a letter petitioning him to not meter parkings around hospitals on Saturdays.

The idea being that few people park near hospitals on saturdays anyway because there aren't any appointments. And those that do are often inpatients, patients family members and employees of the hospital. (People who need to park longer than meters allow)

Metering parking just pushes anybody that parks near the hospital into parking in surrounding neighborhoods and takes up parking there.

It makes sense to meter hospital parking during the weekdays when clinics are open because real money can be made and it keeps the parking spaces open for all of the temporary traffic, but on weekends, the scene is often of tons of empty meters that would be better used if people were allowed to park there for longer periods of time.

It would basically work on Saturday just like it does on Sunday now.

I mean, sure, in front of restaurants or what not, it makes sense to meter on Saturdays, but in front of hospitals??

And a lot of people that visit hospitals have trouble getting around (Whether they are handicapped or not).

If other people mail him or call him or whatever, I think it might be helpful.

The 40 Thieves Hookah Lounge is currently looking for dancers & musicians to perform for some upcoming shows this Fall. "real" world parade

been hemming and hawing about some kind of action in reaction to MTV's Real
World stupid location on Market street dead center of lodo. if we had a "parade" of wierdness
perhaps that would be enough to divert attention of the worker bees in the
"house", the dumb normals on the roof of the bar across the street and the
rent a cop.

Here is what I'm thinking - bring your interesting wear - santa, clown, zombie,
pirate, bunny, jesus, smbd, raver and general wierdness to EL Chapultapec at
the corner of 20th & Market 3pm on Sunday Aug 13th. You don't have to wear
it just bring it - hopefully multiple outfits. We will slowly send someone
out, if there is enough of us a couple of us to walk casually past the
"house" and down to the end of the street rounding the corner. then another
individual will walk down the street coming from the other direction and so
on and so forth for half an hour to an hour - slow, casual walking of santa
then bunny then zombie then pirate .....

we are walking on the public sidewalk not causing a fuss - COMPLETELY legal.
We can come up with ready excuses if someone asks. Perhaps somone with a
video camera could capture the sillyness from across the street?
