Antidepressant drugs work for about 40% of patients. (Maybe)

Although antidepressant medication is widely regarded as effective, a recent meta-analysis of published clinical trials indicates that 75 percent of the response to antidepressants is duplicated by placebo. In clinical trials, the effect of the active drug is assumed to be the difference between the drug response and the placebo response. The small difference between antidepressant and placebo has been referred to as a "dirty little secret" by clinical trial researchers (Hollon et al., 2002)

One report showed that the FDA clinical trials data indicate that 18% of the drug response is due to the pharmacological effects of the medication. Overall, the drug/placebo difference was less than 2 points on the HAM-D, a highly reliable physician-rated scale that has been reported to be more sensitive than patient-rated scales to drug/placebo differences.

Antidepressants stop working in 1/3 of the people taking them. Many people suffer withdrawal when trying to quit. 78% of effexor users will experience withdrawal. This can happen with one missed dose. paxil 66% zoloft 60%.

Withdrawal can range from flu like symptoms, vomiting, dizziness to what is known as the zaps, (feeling as if your getting electric shocks over and over.) to auditory and visual hallucinations, suicide, rage and homicidal psychosis. (rare, but all to real!)

Depression in young adults can be a symptom of emerging bipolar disorder.
Antidepressant use in bipolar patients can cause severe manic episodes.
Antidepressant drugs have been found in our drinking water; pharmaceuticals have now become environmental pollutants.(Antidepressant drugs are released in urine.)
The F.D.A. recently issued an Antidepressant suicide warning for children and then for adults.

In 1999 a study conducted by Adrian Preda, M.D.; Rebecca W. MacLean, M.D.; Carolyn M. Mazure, Ph.D.; and Malcolm B. Bowers, Jr., M.D. found that 8.1% of Psychiatric Admissions to hospitals were due to Antidepressant-Associated Mania and Psychosis (J Clin Psychiatry 2001;62:30-33). The number must be higher now because the numbers of people taking antidepressants has risen significantly.

A recent Columbia University study has shown that children and adolescents (aged 6-18 years) who had committed suicide, were significantly more likely to have been on antidepressants!

The Product Information Leaflet (PIL) for venlafaxine (Effexor) now recognises aggression and homicidal ideation (At times leading to violence) as a side effect of effexor.

I intensely dislike censorship and have not wanted to remove any one. How ever (because we have had someone flaming the site). if this rule is broken, I will have no choice.

THESE RULES ONLY APPLY TO ARGUING AND ATTACKING OTHERS.

No attacking others.

No name calling

No insisting that people support things they do not believe in.

No lazy, vague answers such as “that is not true” If you wish to disagree with someone, you must back up your statement. and you must give evidence.

No rude replies. “Ya, I bet you think the earth is flat” is a rude reply.

If you wish to disagree you must use the basic rules of logic.

iidb.infidels.org/vbb/archi...68825.html

Do not bring specious arguments in to the discussion.

Tell your opinions in a new thread instead of arguing with others.

Be respectful of the opinions of others, even when you disagree.

It is disrespectful to respond to evidence presented by others with out seeing ALL of what they have presented.

Keep your mind open and be willing to give serious consideration to new ideas.
