Up coming dance shows

As you all know we are doing Albany art and air
Then to add to the list is
Calapooia brewing co. September 2nd yes its a tuesday but thats what they can give us right know hopefully that will change and yes you have to be 21 on the great side they will be paying us a little something for our time and are very open minded

and we have been asked to come back to Cafe noir no date at this time but I can tell you that I will try to make sure it dos not interfeir with other shows in the area
as well we are working on a date for there winery too in Mac
and we will be back at the Beanery on the 3rd sat of September and I've all ready got 2 out of towners sighned up
So I will try to keep this up dated so we every one who wants to know can check and see what's going on as well as letting me know if you want to dance at certon shows Thanks Cira

Finding troble in P town

I want to go hang in the Arab clubs dance my you know what off and fall in love love love love with the music and people and smells and culter agein and agein . I know I cant bellydance in there clubs at this time for maney reasons but I just want to ascape and see old friends like Mory the jewlar and Hasson and Hasham and Ali any one in? Gypsie circle festival

We will be leaving to go down to sweet home around 12:30 on saturday for there festival . So if you are car poolling with us please be at my house a little before 12:30. If you are driving your self then let me know so I can give you directions they would like us to dance three 15 minuet sets so if any one wants to do a solo Im sure that can be aranged . They all so said theye have Live drummers if we want to bring along instruments and jam with them and or dance with them thats cool to .

I beleive so far Kat , Laura, Natty, Anna,Mabey Marry , mabey Stephony,and of cores yours truely.

Drum Circle - July 23, 2008

Hey Tribal Dancers!

I know pretty much everyone is coming down to the drum circle again tomorrow night, with bells and zills on, ready to rumble. My youngest daughter is coming again, with her friend, and they're going to do the Free Hugs thing, with David filming it. I think it would be very awesome if some or all of the dancers were filmed in full (or near full) costume giving away free hugs, too. This could be a big deal in the whole Free Hugs community. Imagine holding up your sign and when someone comes running over to you to get a hug, you 3/4 shimmy toward them!

Who's up for the challenge? I'll make the signs, all you have to do is give hugs. We could hit the playground, lots of hugs there. Let's do it!

Wednesday Drum Circle

Alright, if anyone has the guts or time to come out to Riverfront I know Kat and Anna and I are heading out for it. It's a great time to just let loose and try out all those moves you learned in class or any moves you have been wanting to try out in a friendly, casual setting. Plus, you get to be outside!!! Everything is cooling off and the setting sun fills the evening air with wonderful golden light, a truly soul settling experience. So come on out, bring your friends and family for a relaxing evening alongside the Willamette River.

Now watching the Sunday morning "Americanistan / Hafla" performance at the World Beat Festival, looks pretty good so far. CCTV's World Beat coverage (on comcast 22) was mostly of the Amphitheater stage.

CCTV divided coverage into segments 1 through 8, and Sunday morning is part '5' (showtimes listed below). Check http://www.cctvsalem.org/programs/schedule.php for schedule updates, this is the current listings as of 5 minutes ago.

You can also buy DVD dubs from CCTV: A DVD of part 5 would be $20 for the general public, $10 if you are one of the performers. They need pay in advance, they can mail it or you can pick up at office with advance arrangments (call Heidi at CCTV, 503-588-2288, for details).

The Beat Fest

Just wanted to let you all know you were fantastic at the fest this weekend. i love the way you had so many different styles! It never got boring! Ali was a huge fan especially because he was recognizing many of the traditional dances you were doing. He took pictures and kep[t saying he couldnt wait to know his mother and sisters back home in Syria (well they are iraqi but staying in Syria now) He was also saying things like his mother had so many of the same costumes things that you were wearing. We both really enjoyed it. Great job!

CRazies in the down town area O my

OK with out the 12:00 dromma of my sick sarcasem . I truely did have some crazy come up and try my drivers side door on wednesday night . He was yelling and ranting at me to let him in and trying the handle of my door I am truelly glad to have autamatic locks on my car and I did tell him to go away and was afraid that he was going to finde a way to get in so after I yeld at him I drove through a red light on state street . We have had to lock the studio because ive been up there with only me or just 2 or 3 of us and had crazies walk in to the studio and it can be very difacolt trying to get them out and Im lerning to be vocally forcfull with them even though Im usually shaking . Thats all

Im looking for a few dancers to come and work out with me next tuesday from 9.00a.m. Spining class to 9.45 then go and do group power witch is a free weights class from 10.00a.m. to 11.00 a.m. It really is worth it and I thought it would be fun to have bellydancers invade there little world .and if you really whant a chalenge for your self do no sugar no alcohal no wheat for a week with me I basicly am looking for some out side positive suport and ha one week is easy Ive all ready droped 5 lbs

Sins of the flesh

Ok so last night I went to a small gathering of friends of my husbands . There was anuther wife there her and her husband live in the midwest . I beleive they met in desert storm and came back from there and got married and had children. some thing she is very proud of doing (being invalved in the war ) Eather I or my husband told them in passing that I belly dance and then she asked at Questions first it seemed all inasent but then it got weird . I will be the first to admit that I am one to give people my ear allot longer and Im allot more compationat about listening to them and knowing they are only coming from ware they understand things but by the end of the night she was praying for me because what I due is so sinfully flesh oriented and that I shuld be teaching women to love god and not to lern sins of the flesh . by the time we left she was huging me and saying she beileved I would finde a new path fore my life and that Im worth more then that . I really probobly let it go too far but I felt sorry fore her as mutch as she felt sorry for me . I didnt have the hart to tell her that Im converting them early to ( teaching children ) . Wats your apinion have any of you ever been attact verbally fore your sins of the flesh ?

Live music / open dance practice (5pm-630pm, Tuesday March 4th)

Several people have been interested in making live music/drumming available to Salem dancers, but finding a suitable location to practice has been an issue, so I've reserved Galadriel's studio (downstairs from Cherry Redd, by Reed Opera House) for Tuesday March 4th, 500pm-630pm (right before Galadriel's class).

If it works out, we'll continue to schedule it for 5pm on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month.

Let me know if you're 'kinda' interested or 'definitely' interested in playing, especially if you have string or wind instruments. Right now it's me (drumming), Samira (drumming and/or dancing), and Justin (guitar). Justin is probably bringing a friend who plays wind instruments, so we're starting to have a nice group.

Dancers are encouraged to stop by... RSVP is nice, but drop-in-late-leave-early is OK too... The outside doors are open during this time slot: we'll be down the stairs, 2nd room on the left.

This is, again, the fun experiment stage, so non-performing beginner dancers to live music pro dancers are all welcome, every new music/dance interaction is a help in building the next level of dancer support in this community.

I will start posting choreography on tribe 2 so if you are a student but not on desert m 2 email Kat . It will be easier to have bolth Monday tribal mini comboes , Wednesday advanced class, and troupe dances on this sighte then you can print it off for your self . I will worne you this will be a work in progress you may find weird abreiviations fore things and of corse miss spelled words and when my minde changes before classes there could be a few changes in the same dance . As in we are doing the 9/8 skirt dance and this is the 3rd whole new dance. as well as shimmy has evolved 4 times in the last 2 weeks . and if you are an Albany student it might be a whole difforent dance (like shimmy ) So I guess lets just see haw this goes Cira

Well, per Jody's request, a little tidbit about Kentucky. I've got my bar exam tomorrow and Wednesday, so hopefully I'll pass! I'm really looking forward to being done with it. I haven't been to any performances here yet, but I'm dancing at a fundraiser in March at a noodle restaurant, so I'll let you know if it's any different here! So far I do know one thing that's different, which is for this show, each dancer only gets to do one song. I think it's crazy, since you spend so much time getting ready, only to do one song. But I'll make do. I also got a new costume, which I haven't been able to even wear yet because I'm having it altered so that it fits. Naturally it came too large, but also the zipper on the skirt was broken, and it was unfinished in several ways. I got a decent price from Hypnotic Movements on ebay, but considering I'm going to have to spend almost $100 for it to be wearable, the price was pretty average. (And I'm not doing the repairs myself because I've been a bit busy studying for the bar!) But I'll be sure to take pictures and post them up when I do finally get it back from her. Hope you all are well, it seems like it from the posts. Miss you!

Great Show at the Beanery Saturday Night

It was a great show Saturday night. Lots of variety. I especially enjoyed Anna and Cassandra's tribal duet, no matter if it was spur of the moment. I so miss tribal! The solo's were great, and Ms. Cira just rocked.

Just a reminder, while I've got Jody's image in my mind, is how important it is to let the music dictate your moves. Actually, it was kind of odd, while Cassandra and Anna were dancing, there was one part in the music and I thought to myself "Oh, I hope they spin here" and they did! Later on, I found out Jody was thinking the same thing at the same time. Taking advantage of the subtle nuances in the music really puts your dance on a higher level, in my opinion. Like a brief shimmy with some tinkling of bells or piano (if your music is alternative), or a wrist circle/snake arm move to some slow interlude before the beat picks up again. I know what I want to say, I'm just having trouble saying it, and it's just a comment/hint, anyway. :)

I guess what I want to say is that the more you listen to your music, the more aware you'll be of all the different instruments that make up the entire piece, and where each instrument is allowed to shine within the piece. Take advantage of that when you can.

I keep thinking about living there . Ive lived there twice in my life and my father is barried there some ware between medford and Ashland I cant quite remember ware .but kinda close to Jacksonville I remember living in phenicks Or and having a poste office box in Ashland and going to see Love storie with my parents and haw mutch I loved the music in the movie still to this day I will have memories every time I hear the music we had A blue ford truck and a very small house there there were mice in the house and my mom would have me come out and we would sit still whating for them to apear then there they would be by the fire place . my dad was really bad at whanting to do things his way so whyle my mom worked he would bring in his motor cycle and work on it and I was sworn to not telling and I sat here whatching the Banana splits I can still sing the song then we were off to the junk yard looking for that special part that he needed I remember owning a pare of Red cow boy boots that I loved My dad was great he would sing swinging on a star and wistle like BIng Crosby all the time . Some time late at night he would tune in late night A.M. radio and quiz me on all the great claranet players . whos this one whose that one . I can still name them Peat Fointan , Woody Herman , Pete Shaw , and Thomy Dorsy. I my forget one or two but all in all I remember them and haw he referd to todays music 1970s was nothing but Junk and Jazz was king . SO who was your most influencial relative and or place you lived

Tribal Costuming Sunday

Im pulling a costuming intervention . We really need to pull our look together . So this sunday around 11:00 I will host a costuming Brunch get together . this will give us a good opertunity to share ideas and finde out who has what who needs what and who can not aforde or needs help putting there personall look together . Greetings! I have the use of the CCTV studio from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 8. There are several kinds of shoots I would like to do to enhance the "Bellydance Oregon" show, including experimenting with live drumming for dancers, setting up a fake club for dancers to perform in for a multi-camera shoot, using a green screen to shoot a dancer performing in a virtual location, etc. I'll probably set up several different time slots with different dancers for different concepts, so if you want to come in and do a 3 minute piece then leave, that will be fine. Like any good piece of art I'm looking for the right mix of fun and work to get the right result. I've been working hard to produce shows that make the Salem dancers look good, and make Salem a more dance friendly town.

Which ideas I'd go with will depend on who and how many are interested in attending. If there is widespread interest, I'll probably reserve some sub-section of time (probably 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) as an open house/Christmas party.

New classes this January

New TV Show on Fit TV

So, last night I was flipping around the tv and found a show called "Shimmy". It's a show to teach belly dancing, and pretty cool to watch. I'm not sure what channel, but it's part of the Discovery Network, so on Comcast, it's up in the 200's...240 something, maybe.

The show isn't in a classroom setting, but rather shows small groups of dancers doing the moves with a voice-over instructor. Just thought I'd share it...here's a link, and there's video, too, but I haven't watched it yet.

I have a birthday looming over my head and as any one who knows me very well knows im dreding it big time more then I dread all the athers . every time a birthday comes up its like time just stole a year from me its been that way every seince I turned 18 and I know time will run out soon so I try that mutch harder to get every thing done that I want to acheave , mabey thats the capricorn in me . It isnt a look thing all though I do see a lot of changes no one els seems to . I was carded yet agein as all ways and she got up set beckas I was a year older then her older sister and the teller looked older then me she slamed my id down and seid with a hiss ITS NOT FARE.but any way I would go bach to 1988 1989 I was 22 my only child I was ever going to have was 3. Elliot and I lived in my small house on Maple st and I worked fore interiore scapes ware I did phoe finesh on pots(evory time I swim at the court house on river rd I see my work ) I was going to meet John that year I had very little money and Ell and I rode my bike all over the place . I had a room mate JIm walley who took us to the beach and to breighten bush hot springs in his rabit and I red the dow of pooh to him and Elliot that was a very good summer even though I got fired from my job . but started working at Boons the day after Halloween . so summer was awsome John and I were at sound garden at the same time and didnt even know each ather. know Im too buissy to go to a concort to maney responsabilities . I think it would be fun to just take off and not have to be acountable to any one or any thing dont you all whant too

Many thanks to Cira and to all who attended the workshop, danced in the show, or was in the audience. You were all so much fun to be with. Janet, Wayne and I had a wonderful time.

I thought the show went very well, it had a nice flow and a great variety of dances. It seemed that all the performers really shone. I hope that the India Palace will have you all back again.

Anyone who attended the workshop and has feedback for me as the instructor, please email me privately if you like, or post here. I would like to know how you think the class could be improved, what worked for you, what didn't, etc.

Upcoming Workshops at RJ Dance Studio

The "Events" section of tribe.net appears to be AWOL still. This is just a reminder that the workshops are only a couple of weeks away. and those of you who haven't signed up or paid should probably do so before it fills up. I can't find the details, and can't access the events posting to get them.

It's on Saturday, November 10, with Karla Johnson teaching Gypsy Skirt Dance, then Banghra, Lorraine Hanson of Tribal Feat and Urban Tribal teaching hot new Tribal Fusion moves, and Americanistan with dancing to live music and how to play for dancers.

There will be a show that night. Jody, can you add more details?
