I was wondering does anyone here use the 5x5 bodybuilding system?
I am following the 5x5 system as written about in Reg Park's book Strength and bulk training for weightlifters and bodybuilders.

Re: does anyone here use the 5x5 bodybuilding system?
Thu, October 2, 2008 - 5:10 PMI've done a couple kinds of 5x5 training. 5x5 straight sets with progressive poundages over 4-6 weeks is great way to gain strength.
I've also done Korte's 5x5, which is a speed and volume block before a power block. Aimed more at maximal strength and powerlifting. -

Most people find they don't make much bench improvements on it. But its magic for the squat and deadlift. makes sense as you get twice the lower body volume as you do upper body pressing.
My own variation of it adds 3 sets of chin ups and 3 sets of rows to the upper body phase, as I was concerned about the lack of arm pulling.
I and many other people have also found that they felt they peaked on strength a week or two before the korte cycle ends. If I did it again I'd shorten the strength end by one week.
Currently I'm experimenting with Rest Pause training (Doggcrapp, MyoReps, M-Time, stuff like that) -
