Okay, this seems like a totally newbee question, but it comes down to the fact I just never used them before. And I HAVE Googled it, I'm just finding an answer there.

What does an Olympic dumbbell weigh? I know what the barbell weighs.

See I can use the gym at work and this is what they have. As I'm working out alone, in the middle of the night, I am using dumbbells for most of my work. And while I can see progress in what I'm adding, I'm rather wondering what it is I'm actually lifting, you know?

So, if anyone can give me an answer, and I'm sure someone knows here, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

No idea. Mine feel like about 2.5-3 lbs each. I'm a little curious, but for my own records I just don't count the handle.

If I go to a commercial gym someday, perhaps I'll pleasantly surprised that I'm 2-5 lbs stronger than my records indicate.

See, as I'm now mostly working out at home, I'm feeling like I'm weaker...so I'm hoping that the Olympic is notably more than my standard types, which being mine I knew weighed 5 lbs. It's a bit demoralizing putting on what I expect to be able to lift for a certain number of reps and just, you know, not.

olympic weights are usualy measured in kilos, there really isn't an olympic dumbell, since they are not used in the actual sporting event. the olympic bars weigh 20 kilos for the mens, and 15 for the womens.

dumbells often will not be accurately weighed, since this would take more time out for a chinese factory to produce.

(i don't know - about the olympic weights)
In the gym I curl with 25's - at home, I only have 15's. For biceps, I curl very slowly and can still get a workout. I can do ball chest flys because weights are heavier the further they are away from center mass, but with weights that light, I'm better off doing push-ups for chest press. I go to the gym 4days a week and live in a small apartment - there's just no room for a home gym. Mostly just the pull-up bar. Its next to the bathroom - so i do ten pull-ups everytime I have to pee. That's my fav thing, the pull-up bar. I love pull-ups, rope climbs, cargo nets, trees.

but, - you could buy a kitchen scale.

speaking of the weight of things - I know the longer bar at the gym is 45lbs, but what about the shorter easy curl bar? 25-35?
