Dhea on Ananbolic diet?

So I started a hybrid version of Dan's and DiPasquale's diet. I'll be honest in saying that I've never really seriously started bodybuilding until 2 weeks ago. In 2 weeks I've gone from %18 bodyfat to depending on the day 13.5% to 14% depending on the day. I've also added about 5 lbs to my lifts.

Hear's the problem though. I bike a total of 8mi a day to work (saves gas). so I kill my carbs. The other problem is my body doesn't switch over to full ketosis as fast as I'd like (groggy and fogginess no longer bother me). I think the problem is that I don't switch over fast enough because I don't have enough Muscle mass to burn all the glycogen. BTW you learn real fast that this diet was only meant for professional BB. But i've tweaked it to work for me.

I was wondering If any one has tried Dhea to stave off cortisol before. I wan't to use it to extend the ketosis phase so my body attacks just the fat not the muscle. As a anabolic its BS. But some studies suggest Dhea can lower cortisol levels. I'm just worried about a rubberband effect.

Anyone ever try Dhea or 7-keto Dhea for this or other means?
Olympic style dumbbell weight?

Okay, this seems like a totally newbee question, but it comes down to the fact I just never used them before. And I HAVE Googled it, I'm just finding an answer there.

What does an Olympic dumbbell weigh? I know what the barbell weighs.

See I can use the gym at work and this is what they have. As I'm working out alone, in the middle of the night, I am using dumbbells for most of my work. And while I can see progress in what I'm adding, I'm rather wondering what it is I'm actually lifting, you know?

So, if anyone can give me an answer, and I'm sure someone knows here, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

I just joined the group. I do not currently have a bodybuilder's physique. In fact, I have a ways to go. Is it possible for a 39-yr-old guy to begin bodybuilding and see signicant results? What would you suggest I do to begin the process? I have been an avid swimmer for years, but I am now interested in buidling up muscle mass as I get older. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pull down

Is there a smooth way to put back the lat pull down slowly if you weigh less than the weight you can pull? The last time I unhooked my legs, I was trying to slow the pully down, and somewhat stupidly curled into a ball and wound up at the top of the apparatus. When i uncurled, i could put my feet on the chair thing and step down, but I felt foolish.

Revolution in weight training - Ever gravity

As you know, our muscles don't just need water to grow, they also need resistance. Most of the resistance on our body in our lifetimes is caused by gravity. That's why I have a revolution in gravity.

For just three easy payments, I will send you a roll of florescent tape. You can use this tape to mark out an area where gravity will actually effect your body differently than ordinary gravity. The gravity in this area will push down on your muscles only in the places where they will respond the most. This is scientifically proven.

Act now.

-------------------

I feel a bit better now. My back is imperfect, but not hurting as much. Still a work in progress.

I mentioned to someone that I wished I could do more pull-ups.

He said,"The average woman can't even do one." (maybe that's because her average size in America is 5'4" and 163lbs)

I replied," Most Americans can't find Iraq on a world map. Average is an increasing lower bar."

So, why IS average such a low bar?

Just when I thought I had plateaued forever, I started making gains. I've added weight to nearly everything and am doing more pull-ups.

I was trying on a shirt and the guy that had let me into the dressing room said," Those are some big guns you have."

You don't know how uncommon it is for someone cursed with two X chromosomes to get complemented on their arms. Yay.

I hurt my back, so i haven't worked out since monday. This sucks. Its a lumbar strain - how long should i lay off? Until I can sit comfortably without pillows? I know, ask a doctor, but I don't have access to one. I hadn't realized how much of my self esteem was wrapped up in those full length mirrors at the gym. If i don't see myself flexing and pumping my mind imagines I'm a soft, weak, girly, girl. grrrrrr. *whine*

hi. i find that when i get to the free weights, i forget everything i've ever known about lifting. this makes me want to get mags (books?) and i usually get mens because there are more pics of lifting sequences vs. makeup ads.

Whats the best way to fill out the top of the inner pec's...I like my shoulders, and lat's but just below my throat is quite shallow.
I've seen some dudes with more cleavage than a woman. How do they do this?

Past middle age, I'm told there's a supplement you can take to help retain the benefits of weight lifting that replaces the diminishing natural supply as we age...testosterone perhaps, but I think it's something else...anyone have any ideas?

My friend just got out of Donavon. He's 39 and huge. No protein powders, supplements, etc. I just got to thinking and didn't get a chance to ask what his routine was since they don't have weights inside anymore .

Does anyone know a good routine for home/work to build mass?
I read about burpies. That's all I've found so far. But I've heard mass amounts of pushups?

Hey, can anyone suggest an ankle strengthening exercise? I fell down the stairs about 2 months ago. Since then my ankes are feeling weak and when I awake in the mornings they hurt. I work out and my legs are pretty strong, but was wondering if there is an "ankle specific" exercise for them? Thanks!

Hello BB tribe members. I'm writing to ask around about what kind of diets you guys might be presently invovled in or what's worked very well for you all?

I've tried tons of things and can only really put a lot of faith in CKD style dieting because it's all that's ever gotten my phenomenal results. I'm trying to commit to another serious 12-16 week bout of it to get in really good shape one again while maintaining as much muscle as possible.

Anywho .. What diets are you guys doing and why?

Hi. I was looking for some good shoulder exercises. I do a lot of aerial arts/trapeze, and it puts a lot of strain on the rotator cuff in my shoulders. So if you have suggestions of exercises that will strenghten this part of my body, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, I know exercises for my triceps, but it would be nice to have some variation so I don't get bored!

Stretching After Workout

Back in 2002 I was encouraged to stretch after each set (just a little) and then at the end of my workouts (every singel time) my trainer and I spent nearly 20 minutes stretching all the major areas in my body... is this practice currently deemed obsolete?

My last four trainers (at three different clubs) have not only NOT stretched me but haven't even encouraged me to do it for myself! I am in a different state now - could it be that California trainers stretch but Washington State trainers do not?

Any feedback would be welcome... I did some standing calf raises two days ago (over did it!) and now I can't even walk...seriously, I've never been this sore before. Help! How can I work out the kinks? -Kate

I'm obsessed with getting BIG. I lift 5-6 times a week, eat like a mofo, and think about getting bigger 24/7.

I'm looking for a boyfriend into the same... but ONLY if he, like me, has put years into working out and has results already.

Not interested in somebody who just wants to get big to get laid... looking for somebody who wants to live the obsessive, demanding bodybuilding lifestyle 24/7 because it TURNS THEM ON.

I'd rather stay home to EAT AND SLEEP TO GROW than go to a bar or club... if that's you too, we should connect.

Nice obliques yet my abs..rec. abd. just don't show well unless I am curled over. Anyone else experience this and come up with solution?

I am one week into doing Body Opus - a cyclical ketogenic diet. For the most part, I am doing pretty good on it. The best part is that there is little hunger.

Has anyone ever done something similar?

About 2 days after my carb-up, I go into ketosis, but pretty much stay at 'trace' . I am not focusing too much on the scale or skin tests right now, as I want to get into a 'flow' first.

My chest won`t grow. There is a bit of a shape but it needs some definition or delineation. I left as heavy as I can and I know I can lift a little more. I prefer dumbells cos it won`t hurt my shoulder girdle as much. It is has taken a log time for the slightest bit of visible muscle growth but it isn`t enough for the amount of time and effort I`ve put into it.

I love to do declines though all the gyms I use don`t have a decline set-up as such. Perhaps I should go back to using a hardcore gym instead...?

Greetings all, some time ago an associate of someone I know gave me a protein supplement that was extracted from vegetables (like carrot and celery). It tasted very clean and had a wholesome feeling to it that I find lacking in pretty much every other kind of supplement and it gave me none of the side effects I have experienced using soy or whey. As it was some time ago and I haven't been working out much lately I have completely forgottern what it was called and who made it and of course I don't even know where this person got the stuff.

I think it might have had some mention of Nature in the brand title. I have been asking around but so far no one seems to know of it. Can any one help me out here, I am thinking of starting to train again and would love to get my hands on some of this stuff.

Hi everyone!

A few quick questions for all:

WHat is/are your favorite health/fitness magazine(s) and why?

What can be done to improve on them?

I'm doing a bit of research for my media class and would like to get your opinions/views...

thanks so much!

my whole life i've had "big" legs... its just in my genes. i have a really small body frame though. even though my legs are more muscular by nature, i know that i can really tighten them up and thin them out a lot... lose a lot of the fat on them.

i have huuge calves! there is a lot of fat on my calves and i am wondering if anyone can reccommend good methods of losing this fat and toning and thinning out my calves. this seems like a difficult area to target. i want to start stretching and massaging them daily to loosen up the muscles... i noticed when i was jogging daily that they got a little smaller.
anything else?

thank you so much!

(and also, what is good for the thighs?)

So, my best friend's daughter is engaged to a wealthy guy. He's got the muscles, gucci sunglasses-designer everything, and immaculate appearence. He asked me if I was," Some sort of Bohemian." *sniff* OK, so the only thing we have in common, besides being the same age, is muscles. He said I have really good shoulders, but I need a tan to set them off. Basically, that I would look alot bigger with a tan. I agree. So, what methods would ya'll suggest? Cream, spray, tanning salon?

Too Many Supplements?!

I wanna invest in some supplements (I have since sworn them off--too expensive), but I have no idea where to start. I'm not looking to explode in size, nor am I super-interested in having to load on creatine. But I'd be interested in something I could take once a day maybe that'd help me push towards my goals, ease my muscle soreness and help me get more cut rather than stacked. There's so much out there, how do you navigate through it all? Any of you guys know any good supplements or powders or web sites I might wanna check out? Thanks again!

I’ve used creatine a couple of times before, with the standard side effects (a bit of stomach pain) and the standard gains (lifting a few extra pounds, and putting on a bit more weight). So, I’ve got no problem using the stuff. My question is: Should creatine be taken in cycles, or is it okay to maintain a 5 gram dose per day indefinitely?

I’ve seen folks advocating taking megadoses for four weeks, then going off for four. But the studies seem to keep the test subjects on a moderate to small dose for the duration.

post-workout tiredness?

hey folks - i have been experiencing a pretty significant energy "hit" after my lifting days. i've tended to lift first thing in the morning, and that has resulted in being beat all day. i'm having some carbs right after i work out, and eating enough (i think) otherwise throughout the day.

this was happening in my workouts from Jan-May. i've been pretty lax at hitting the gym this summer, but my academic year is starting up again soon and with it my regular workouts (easier to schedule with classes getting me to campus 5x a week).

over June-July i had switched to a 3X a week workout that hit every body part each workout, plus cardio with an additional 3 days of cardio. this was pretty good for trimming down while maintaining muscle, but when i go back to alternating lifting days with cardio days i'm concerned that the tiredness factor will make me less effecdtive as a student :)

i'd really prefer to lift in the mornings versus the evening; any advice on how to keep my energy up after hitting my body hard?

ok, after a six months being really slack on the vegan front and after what feels like never ending illnesses i give in. back to the vegan. i felt way healthier and spiritually intact.

so anything i should be aware of with this return to the fold with regards to body building? i was really bad at getting much protein at all last time through, which may explain why all my aerobics and squatting did naff all other than hurt and give me some good endorphine highs....

any pointers from those of you on the veggie/vegan path?

thanks muchly

Wondering if anyone has tried this Lipodrene: http://www.nutritiondome.com/lipodrene.html
and if you like or no like? Any difference from doing your own a la carte stack?

Thanks,

Inversion training?

I actually posted this in another tribe that has to do with fitness, but thought I'd post here as well, in case someone here may have some good advice.

Anyone have advice on inversion exercises like crunches? I actually study trapeze, and as part of that, I will hang from my knees on the bar and do crunches for conditioning. The thing is, I only go to trapeze twice a week.

I was thinking of buying an inversion table to do these at home, as I am finding that these REALLY work my abs a lot better than simple crunches on the floor.

But I don't know what kind to buy. I have a small apartment, so I'd really like one that can fold away for storage when not in use, but which is easy enough to set up, so I don't avoid doing them!

Anyone have any advice?

I work out nearly everyday, lift for five of 'em, and all I get is leaner. I know I'm a gerl, with a capital double g errr, but its annoying. I've recently added more protein (tuna and eggs) to my diet, but should I take suppliments? So far the best thing that's happened if that the other gym regulars recognize me and I feel like I'm getting some respect. Isn't it funny how our bodies seem to have a mind of there own?

This is the best ab/core training device known to man. I use it every day and it has significantly improved my core strength. I would highly recommend this product! It is called the Power wheel and is sold by lifeline fitness out of Madison, WI.

https://www.lifeline-usa.com/products.cfm?cd=273&categoryid=4&productid=11

I actually went to the monkey bar gym in Madison, WI and met Jon Hinds, the guy who designed the product. He is wonderful and so is this amazing piece of equipment! The only thing is that it takes discipline and consistency to see results!

I'm just starting strength training, and would like to know what beginning workouts would be good to start to build a muscular body. I would like to do these workouts at home. I have a weight bench with weights, and also have handweights. What are some good beginning workouts, or where to find them?

Check out the new training pictures I put up on my page as well as my blogs. Currently I train out of Gold's in Venice, however I do my functional training down at the old muscle beach. I use sandbags, sleds, we do ballistic training with dumbbells and bands, sprints, jumps, decelleration work.

I'm doing a video in May on one of my training systems. It is primarily a bodyweight only training system, we do however use partners and very basic equipment.

Believe it or not I have been training without weights using this system for the last 3 years and have been able to transfer these results to my lifts in the gym with stunning success.

I squat close to 500 pounds, bench well over 300, curl 155, do dips and pullups with 180 pounds attached and can snatch 135 pounds with one arm for reps. I have a 36 inch vertical leap and weigh 210 pounds. As far as conditioning is concerned, I can last for 15 two minute rounds with 30 seconds of jumprope in between rounds for a total of 45 minutes straight 5 days a week.

Every person I have trained using this system has had similar results in strength, hypertrophy, speed, explosiveness, balance, conditioning and flexibility.

I invite you to come down and check us out.

If you want to try some different training in the gym let me know I am there many times during the day. It would be my pleasure to run some crazy technique by you.

I'm looking for a workout buddy in the Monterey/seaside area, I mostly looking to strength train but am down for about anything. I am ex-military and am not totally new to the fitness world but while I was in I worked with a bunch of ex rangers who mostly just thought it was funny to screw with me (I at the time was recovering from a broken hip and they'd run me down hills do duck walks *anything that would make me look bad etc.) I really haven't done much for 2 years, so I'm very out of shape but am totally wanting to get back with the program. If anyone is down, shoot me a line, I'd really appreciate someone to work out with. ***I tend to push myself harder when I'm not alone. thanks,
-Simone

I had a decent year last year and had a couple of long stretches of continuing to work out and did lots of situps and pushups, real ones, not crunches, like I read in I think it was a Men's Health article, and this year I want to focus on making it for a 10 week stretch, I think that will be the longest I'll ever have made it working out regularly. I think if I can get 2 10 week stretches in, rather than trying to focus on being perfect and working out every day and then beating myself up mentally for not sticking to it, it's a good goal.

What are other's goals for 2006?

I'm trying to increase my fast twitch muscle fibre and decrease my fat.
My question is if when working out you gain 40% muscle and 60% fat and when your BMR > what you are eating you lose 40% muscle and 60% fat then how can one ever gain lean muscle?
I'm sure I've got to be wrong here obviously, what's my mistake?
thx.

LAB-GROWN CORDYCEPS HYBRID:
A Nanoprocessed Medicinal Mushroom that Really Delivers

By Richard Alan Miller, 7/2005

Widely used for more energy, enhanced libido, sports and work performance;
EVERY PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE USES CORDYCEPS

INTRODUCTION

So many products in the marketplace make so many claims that we automatically discount their alleged properties, often by orders of magnitude. We hope they work as billed and aren’t just hype, but are amazed if they even approach claims. Savvy manufacturers blithely offer money-back guarantees because they know most people simply won’t bother.

CORDYCEPS SINENSIS Hybrid (Patent Pending) is an extraordinary nutritional supplement and medicinal mushroom that not only delivers as promised, but has tremendous potential, globally. In the USA, we can only say it delivers more than it claims, and is nontoxic, which is more than most miraculous pharmaceutical cures can claim.

My decades of marketing at the farm and wholesale level in the herb trade have given me tremendous insight on the trends that have made and ruined certain otherwise viable products. Some come and go in fads, trends based on marketing or new research. Some are victims of their own popularity: supply cannot keep up with demand and are business failures. Some are eclipsed by pricier but fail-safe drugs such as Erectile Dysfunction (ED) pills.

Some botanical products have the potential to deliver real chemistry, but there is little uniformity in potency, due to agricultural and marketing problems. Quality control at the foraging and farm level as well as shelf life are crucial issues. How long does the product sit on the wholesaler’s and retailer’s shelf, losing potency, much less in the household before use? If a product doesn’t deliver as promised, the valued customer will not return. Even new buzz words, such as Nutriceuticals or Immunoceuticals cannot regain their confidence once disappointed.

St. John’s Wort, which became a faddish substitute for Prozac as a botanical antidepressant, is a good example. Thousands of pounds – perhaps tonnage -- of product wound up losing all potency sitting on the shelf after the market peaked once interest in its antidepressant qualities waned. Was it a shortcoming of the initial research, the plant, the processing, or even the delivery system – how the plant chemistry enters the body in a particular form?

Aloha Medicinals’ 5x potency hybrid CORDYCEPS SINENSIS overcomes all these objections. Since it is meticulously lab-grown, rather than collected in the wild, each phase of the process ensures a consistently potent product. This patent-pending process has produced the most consistent product of its type in the world, and its effects supercede all other forms, including CordyMax (Pharmanex) which has been listed in the physician’s PDR for four years.

Not only does the Aloha brand Cordyceps surpass all other production qualities, owner John Holliday has developed a nanoprocessing technique that increases its absorbability even more than its potency. This is a boon to the consumer, who can then get much more “bang for his or her buck”, or perhaps afford an otherwise unaffordable level and course of self-treatment.

Cordyceps has been used traditionally for centuries for its health-promoting and antiviral qualities. It was hailed as the Emperor of treatments and largely reserved for Chinese royalty in ancient times. Today, around the globe medicinal mushrooms are routinely used to produce anti-cancer heteropolysaccharides. This is the field of immuno-modulation.

Yet, even the non-medical applications of cordyceps are numerous and dramatic. The big three are Sports Performance (Performax), Immune Assitance (Immune Assist/Critical Care), and as a Sexual Tonic. Cordyceps first came under global scrutiny when the Chinese gymnasts swept the Olympics and were accused of “doping”. Cordyceps was their secret, and now virtually EVERY PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE USES CORDYCEPS to remain competitive.

WHAT IS CORDYCEPS?

Since the dawn of shamanic healing, over 50,000 years ago, mankind has combed the globe looking for healing ingredients to concoct the ultimate panacea – a cure all. This extraordinary substance has probably come as close as any medicinal mushroom in filling that bill, long before the advent of modern pharmacology and wide-spectrum drugs such as antibiotics.

This royal treatment of Chinese Emperors has a colorful and astounding history. Chemical analyses have shown that none of its alleged remarkable properties are superstition or mere folklore. You know when you consume this product that it is chemically fulfilling its promise.

How well it does that depends on how faithful you are with your own dosing. Want to feel like a King? Traditional dosages of wild cordyceps are in the range of 3-4 ½ grams a day; sometimes as high as 9-10 grams per day, if someone could afford it. Critical care dosage may have ranged as high as 30-50 grams daily. To live like a king, stay with the cordyceps regularly and get plenty of water, proper nutrition and exercise (10,000 steps per day or more), as we all know!

Cordyceps is found in the wild at high altitude in the Himalayas. Just imagine having to forage for tiny dead insects with these fruit bodies growing from them. No wonder only Emperors could afford it. Unappetizingly, wild cordyceps is consumed with the insect still attached, but hybridization has eliminated this “Fear Factor”.

There are over 630 different cordyceps species named, but probably there is only one, which expresses itself differently depending on which insect it is cohabitating. So why does it have such wide-ranging medical usage? It has evolved these particular compounds to keep its host healthy!

It’s no advantage to the symbiont to kill the insect. It has to fool the host insect’s immune system, but not by disabling that system. So, cordyceps has evolved non-toxic compounds, which act as bidirectional immuno-modulators. It up-regulates some aspects of immune function like viral and bacterial protection and down-regulates other aspects of immune function.

It is a fact that insects do not get viruses. Insects, have in their blood – the chemolymph -- single-celled yeast-like symbionts, which perform the functions of red blood cells in higher organisms. They are involved in energy release, nutrient absorption – the equivalent of red blood cells in higher organisms.

We take these single-celled yeastlike symbionts out of the insect and cultivate them – THIS IS CORDYCEPS. First they go mycelial, then they form fruit-bodies. So, this is a symbiotic relationship in insects. It is on its way evolutionarily to becoming the red blood cells of the insect and arachnid, and protects them from viral infection.

Mushrooms only fruit in response to stress – heat, cold, fire, flood. When the insect dies, it is the death of the host that triggers fruiting. In the fruiting from that yeast-like single celled symbiont to the final fruiting, cordyceps appears not to put out a fixed genetic structure.

DNA is generally a fixed biological fingerprint but cordyceps incorporates some of the insect DNA into its own DNA structure, creating this unparalleled medicinal mushroom. But it can be grown on grain as or more effectively, without incorporating insect DNA. This makes it aesthetically more palatable, certainly for vegetarians or vegans.

AN INNOVATIVE PRODUCTION TECHNIQUE

Cordyceps has one problem. You can’t grow it under 18,000 feet. Or can you? By simulating a high-altitude environment – low oxygen, low temperature – mycelium and even fruit can be grown. Stressing the primordia encourages it to increase potency and/or to fruit. But we no longer need to rely on fruit for high-quality chemistry. Aloha’s patent pending process has fooled cordyceps into thinking it lives in paradise and it thrives on that loving care without an insect host.

Hybridization, like in the cultivation of corn for sweetness or potatoes for size and texture, accentuates target medicinal compounds. Its novel bio-active compounds have been amplified to 5X potency. Very extreme modification of the culture parameters – light, temp, and oxygen content - amplify qualities such as anti-viral compounds.

Hybridization concentrates the dosage, lowering it substantially over the wild varieties. You also get the full spectrum of chemistry contained in the whole mushroom versus an isolated standardized extraction. All compounds work synergistically to optimize its effectiveness and minimize side effects. Plants that create toxins often also harbor their own modulators or antidotes. Nature creates a holistic balance, which it is best not to ignore.

Manufacturer John Holliday, in a recent interview with this author, says,

“[Cordyceps] is a direct-acting antibiotic agent. Since cordyceps lives in insects, it has evolved quite a comprehensive compliment of compounds, which it produces, with the sole purpose of keeping the insect healthy. If you consider for a moment fungi, in general, there a quite a number of interesting things that go on at that level or organization.

If you have a nice chunk of organic something that hits the ground, like an apple, everything in the environment competes to use it as a food source – bacteria, mold, everything. The fungi, in general, have evolved an interesting mechanism to give themselves an advantage in the food chain. As the mycelium slowly grows up across the surface of that apple, it exudes certain extracellular compounds out of the cell walls that stun or kill other microorganisms. So, it has a chance to get the food.

Those compounds are what we call antibiotics. Penicillin, tetracycline, erythromycin, cephalosporin are all examples of fungi-produced antibiotics. Cordyceps has a number of different type antibiotics that work on different organisms.”

Hybridization is just good husbandry. We do that with cordyceps for target medicinal compounds, vigorous or fast growth to produce lots of it, and resistance to infection with other organisms. We’re trying to create healthy cultures.

In nature, one out of every hundred mushrooms may be suitable for artificial lab cultivation. Out of every hundred in the lab, only one or two will excel in medicinal properties. So we’re taking them and crossbreeding to increase the specifications of antiviral properties, immune enhancement properties, and performance properties. That’s the concept of hybridization.

We have filed for US and international patents. It looks like we’ll be issued those patents on the fact we’re growing it under 18,000 feet elevation. In other words, low oxygen, low temperature controlled conditions. We also use our own unique substrate. We have our own very solid fake fermentation process.

NANOPROCESSING

Powdered medicinal mushrooms have been in the market for a long time. But newer nano-mesh myco products allow for optimal absorption of effective compounds. With less waste, dosage can again be lowered.

Nano refers to a size; one nanometer is a millionth of a meter. This represents a particle size so small it can virtually penetrate the skin without chemical aids such as DMSO. Nanoparticles amazingly absorb right through the spaces between the cells with three times the absorbability, economically reducing dosages by one third. Also, nanoparticalization can make non-water soluble compounds injectible. Drinks are another good application for nanoprocessed nutriceuticals.

According to nanoprocess developer, John Holliday of Aloha Medicinals, Inc.,

“When we look at size reduction, there are a whole bunch of things that take place. Let’s compare this to a human blood cell. The human red-blood cell is about a 7000-10,000 nanometers in diameter. A nanometer is very small measure. So if we take something down to 40-50 nanometers, that is something very small in relation to the cell. One of the issues where nanotech is being used in pharmaceuticals is to take compounds which are not soluble and use them for injectable drugs.

In the past a compound had to be soluble to be used by the body. So if we look at morphine or cocaine, free-base morphine or cocaine cannot be injected – they have to make a water-based chloride or sulphide out of it. Then it becomes soluble. If you could take it and reduce it to such a small size that it can be used direct, then you have much better utilization of the drug.

So, that is one of the first applications of nanoizing cordyceps. You gain all the benefits of a water-soluble form without losing any of the potency, which you lose in the very nature of making an extract of something. If you take kilos of something and you cook it down to make extract, the question is what was in the kilos you threw away to make the extract? We aren’t smart enough yet to know what all the compounds are.

What we produce is a full-spectrum cordyceps. Undoubtedly, the most comprehensive cordyceps being produced – it is a full spectrum for each species including mycelium, fruit, spores, primordia, most importantly the compliment of all the extracellular compounds produced in the cycle. Much of that is not water-soluble. So, full spectrum is everything produced by that 6-month growth cycle.

If you want to use it traditionally, such as an energy drink, you have to make it water soluble with a hot water extract. Now you’ve got a power you can use for various applications, but its only a portion of what you started with, because everything that did not go into solution has been eliminated. Nanoparticalization means it doesn’t really become soluble, but its so small it becomes fully suspensable. We’re able to take nonsoluble material and use it for soluble applications.

Look back on 15,000 years of history of how it was used to determine what will become of it. Its like asking in the 1950s what will become of transistors? It’s so new, we don’t know. We know instinctively it has greater potential than before we took it to the nano-step. Really where that horizon lies we don’t know yet.

ENERGY ENHANCEMENT

Cordyceps is widely used in weightlifting and other sports for enhancing oxygen utilization. A unique natural ATP pathway increases the concentration of ATP in the cells, oxygen utilization, etc. We breathe in 20% oxygen, 80% nitrogen; yet, when we exhale we see about 13% oxygen in the exhaled breath, using only the difference.

After cordyceps, there is only 8 or 9% percent exhaled, so use increases. How much the person gets from each breath increases about 40%. The other part of it is ATP is the actual molecule which releases energy in the cell. When the cell needs energy, it breaks off a phosphate from triphosphate converting to biphosphate. The energy of that breaking is what becomes available for use. It’s very easy to calculate ATP level from the liver or heart by assaying ATP. How much ATP you have present at any given time is how much potential energy you have at that particular moment.

According to Holliday’s research, repeating the test 2 weeks after cordyceps daily, ATP concentration goes up 28 to 30% higher…30% more energy is available on demand. It doesn’t trigger the pathway in the brain that makes you feel like you have more energy, like amphetamines or ephedra, or sinepherine. With the latter you erroneously think and feel you have more energy, but eventually it robs you of it. With ATP increase, you don’t feel like you have more energy, you simply can and do go further.

Who really recognizes it are repetitive athletes, like someone who has run several marathons and knows their water and break patterns. They find themselves extending further more easily. If you find the same is true for you sexually, then that is a pleasurable bonus.

Though it is rarely discussed, virtually EVERY PROFESSIONAL SPORTS FIGURE USES CORDYCEPS!

End

Dr. G said:
Well, you're finished so I won't say much other than to say the company
whose product I am using is Pharmanex. Comparing it to St. John's Wort
should have some of the negative s/e of SJW other than losing potency
on the shelf and differences in potencies of different preparations and no
standardization, such as negative effects from being in the sun.
Possible negative s/e of cordyceps include skin allergy, which some of
The Chinese studies found. Also important to know yes/no if cordyceps
Affects blood pressure/cardiac function/platelets and bleeding and what other
possible adverse effects there might be. Pharmanex was not easily
forthcoming about these when I wrote them a couple of years ago.
Because one product is already in the PDR, I would expect that this cordyceps
Would be expected to minimally meet the same test(s) that Pharmanex did.
The nanoprocessing is fascinating and cool to describe. Many of the
Other statements are medical or pharmacological claims which require
references to back them up. If you look at Pharmanex's CordyMax, you might get some
idea of how a competing company got its product in the PDR over four years
ago, which was no mean feat. Look up either Pharmanex on the web or in a
PDR and see what they quote. I was not impressed by what I saw four years ago.
When you think about the megabucks spent on different phases of research
before a new antiepileptic drug is allowed on the market, it makes you
wonder.

I realize this is not the HST message board, but maybe you guys have some insight that might benefit other folks.

I've been reading www.hypertrophy-specific.com and trying to incorporate the recomendations into my workout.

One of the tennets (from my reading) seems to be to go through adaptive cycling and do 5 reps one 2 week block, then 10 reps one 2 week block. etc.

There's more to it but the point is that you don't do increasing weights / decreasing reps multiple sets per exercise.

Increasing weights / decreasing reps have been a staple of BB from what I know.

What are the preferences/reasons for the preferences for ppl on this tribe?

How much L-Glutamine is optimal for aiding muscle repair? Currently I'm lifting 4-5 times a week?

Is it a good idea to do back 2 days after doing arms?
For instance I'm worried about not letting my arms completely heal, or is it mostly back muscles affected?

I've been taking creatine 3-4 times a week for several weeks and the results have been great. I've heard of no real side effects except for decreased energy when you come off it and extra work for your liver.

Anybody else have experience with it?

NO2 and a thermogenic

Can a person or should a person take a product like NO2 and a thermogenic?

Is there are redundancy by doing so, or do they perform two completely separate jobs?

Need help with new cutting cycle--HST

I'm gettting ready to start a cutting cycle and need a little advice on setting up a program. I've never done a cutting cycle before. I'm 6' 225 at 18% bf. I'm currently eating a relatively clean diet 2000-2500 calories a day. (Mostly protein and complex carbs.)

I usually don't use bodybuilding workouts and generally lift like a powerlifter. I'd like to try an HST styled workout for cutting, and any advice would be welcome. I'd like to lift 3 times a week and don't want to lose too much maximal strength, but accept that this might happen.

As a general rule I'm very unmotivated to do cardio, but figure I'll be incorporating rowing or walking 3 to 4 times a week.

Any advice is welcome even if it's not HST related. And if anyone already has a good cutting cycle set up that would be appreciated.

French Press/ Skull Crushers

1) I've recently been feeling a pain in my elbows when I do either french press or skull crushers. Since I've done these forever I'm wondering if I'm gripping the bar in the wrong way and not noticing it.

Any suggestions on the grip? I'm currently substituting close grip bench and tricep pull downs, any other good exercise suggestions?

EAS Workout

Hi There!

I just did a fitness challenge (I'm very proud to say I did well - lost about 8lb and 10% bodyfat). Because it was a bodybuilder type high-rep low-weight no carbs, unsustainable and shitloads of cardio program, I'm looking to do something different for the summer, before I do another challenge probably in August or September (I like doing these things - keeps me motivated). I was thinking maybe I'll try massing up a little bit over the summer and then define it down again for my next challenge - periodization or some semblance of it.

Anyway, I found this workout
http://www.eas.com/training/52weekseries/phase1.asp
on EAS's website. Seems simple enough - pretty basic and all, inoffensive, I should say. I'm not an EAS fan, but I thought, OK, maybe someone has taken the trouble away and has done all the thinking for me! Maybe that's not a bad thing (I'm a planner, I like having a plan)

Has anyone tried this? The first schedule seems a bit basic - maybe not challenging enough. Except for the cable standing lat raises - I have not seen those befor
