1st Annual Austin GRILLED CHEESE INVITATIONAL!

Registration is now open!!

There will be only 40 competitors, no exceptions. So before you go to register, be thinking about what category you will compete in, what the name of your sandwich will be, and whether your sandwich will be vegetarian. (All of this information will be required at registration.)

Note: If you only plan on eating, there's no need to register. Only register if you are going to compete.

Category Reminders (See the rules page for the legalese questions about them):

The Missionary Position: Standard bread, standard butter, and standard cheese.
The Kama Sutra: Exotic or standard bread, butter, and cheese plus additional ingredients.
The Honey Pot: Exotic or standard bread, butter, and cheese, but a sandwich that is sweet in general, or would best be served as dessert.

Doors to the event will open at 7:00pm and the grilling will start promptly at 8:00pm. All those planning on grilling should be there and ready at 7:30pm.

ITEMS/RULES YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF:

1) All sammiches must be pre-registered. There will be no on site registration WHATSOEVER!

2) There will be a maximum of 40 competitors, no exceptions.

3) Each competitor will be allowed only 30 minutes to grill per category. So save yourself the time and do as much prep-work ahead of time. You can compete in more than one category.

4) All contestants must present their sandwiches on the official plates provided. This is to insure that every sandwich gets it's 16 votes turned in. You can have additional items with your sandwich (pamphlets, drinks, etc), but they MUST fit on the plate provided.

5) All those looking to eat sammiches must get them at the judging station and not at the cooking area or by the chefs. Competitors should provide their own runners who will go and get sandwiches and bring them to the judging station. NO EXCEPTIONS. We will have some volunteer runners to assist, but the competitors should not rely on us to have one for you.

7) While we are tabulating the results, there will be entertainment.

Burning Flipside Town Hall - This Saturday!

This Saturday, November 10th, is Fall Town Hall at the Warehouse.
Tailgating, theme pimping, and setup will begin at 1:00pm. Doors will open at 2:27pm, and the meeting will begin promptly at 3:06pm. We’re hoping to be concluded by 6:47pm.

Effigy Build Dates

If you're in the DFW area and would like to help us build our effigy,
here's the details from our Effigy Lead:

Basically, the face is done (you might have seen the picture...).
What needs doing is the building of the neck so that the face can be
mounted to it, and the rest of the head be put together and
skinned... this needs Burner-Bodies to make happen.

Work days are as follows:
Saturday, Sept. 22nd - build neck and attach face, lower jaw.
Saturday, Sept. 29th - build both rear halves of head and attach to neck.
Sunday, Sept. 30th. - attach skin where applicable, then disassemble
parts for transport.

independent (and aforementioned) tasks to be done at Casa de Boarhead:
1.) Fabricate ears
2.) Fabricate "Burning eyes" mechanism
3.) Fabricate "snot dispenser"

Work Weekends

Only two Work Weekends left: Sept 22, and Sept 29. If you would like
to help, please contact a Lead or LLC so we know to expect you. Our
lease stipulates that we cannot have more than 25 people on the land
during these work weekends due to water table concerns, and only
having one porta-potty onsite. We will need folks to bring shovels
and wheelbarrows for filling holes, heavy duty trash bags and
galoshes for cleaning up the creek debris, and cutting tools to trim
branches. Landowners will announce any other work that needs to be
done on the NTXB-Planning list.

I was recommended this group by Molly (she camps near you at BM and is from Seattle) to see about meeting people and eventually finding permanent campmates for the "big burns".

So here's my introduction about me :-) I'm called Willow (but haven't been given an actual burner name they just call me Willow from a name I already had) and live in the Dallas area. Single, nurse, pretty stable as far as knowing to do my part and participate, etc. I've been to both Myschevias and last years Flipside. I'm going to Flipside this year and hoping that I might meet some of you/get to know/all that good stuff. I may have met a few of you already. Molly recommended you as a great BM tribe (I just bought my ticket for BRC BM today) and I'm looking to make new friends and find more people to hang out with and possibly camp with at events as I'm still pretty much a newbie (I am friends with the Myschevia landowners so I spent Myschevia 1 and last Flipside with them but i'm looking to get out more to spread my wings). I'd love to meet any of you that go to Flipside. I hang out some with a lot of the Dallas Burners so if there are any of you here I haven't met I'd love to meet you! I do know Geo :-) Look forward to making new friends and participate/contribute at this Flipside and Burning Man this year and to meeting you all. I hear you're an amazing group of people!

my years out there.

Thank you for your smiles, your southern hospitality, your accents,
your saloon door, your big-ass Texas flags, your beer, your shade,
your pillows, your everything. Living in New York, I've now come into
the full realization that Texas is a state of mind before it is ever a
state of the union. Funny I had to go all the damn way to Nevada to
figure that one out.

You people ignite magic in my heart that I don't want to forget ever.
