You are away from home.. visiting friends out of town. And you meet them at a restaurant that has belly dancing. The usual dancer cancels.. your oh so loving friends tell the owner YOU are a wonderful belly dancer. He asks you to dance for 30 minutes and he will pay you ! and give you your meal on the house...
You had not brought a costume with you because this was just a casual trip. You run out to your car to see what you can pull together......
You come back ready to dance in..... and to what ....?????

Music is covered, I never take a road trip without at least a few ME CD's.
As far as cossie... uh... well, if I'm out to dinner in a strange town I think it's a safe bet to say that I'm wearing a skirt and (likely black) top. If I've got a sarong in the car, I'lll tie that bad boy on my hips- uhm- if not, then I'll look about the restaurant and shamelessly borrow a great scarf from someone who's wearing one!

Sat, July 7, 2007 - 9:03 AMMusic Yup covered.. either it's in the player or in the console. costume - I alwasy have a dance bag [or 2] in the vehicle. So I grab a veil or two and create some costume and use a coin belt to tie it off. Zills, shoes and away I go...
Now if I hadn't driven... Music would be hard but you could see what they have at the place, poll the audiance.. or teach them some rythums ?!!!
Make a costume out of table cloth? Borrow as Maia said from audiance. Grab the purse and sprinkle glitter on EVERYTHING....

As far as costumes... well, if I knew the restaurant has belly dancing then likely I'd be wearing something ME-inspired in the first place. A long, flowy skirt or something. I don't know that I'd have anything for my hips, but I'd see if maybe the restaurant has something I could borrow. Then I'd probably just tuck the bottom of my shirt into my bra to make something tummy-baring, annnnd.... get up on that stage and shimmy for all I'm worth, baby!

Sat, July 7, 2007 - 10:37 PMI was put on the spot one time, in jeans and a tank top. so I put keys rings in every pocket they sounded great. I shimmied away, I can dance to anything any radio station, clapping what ever. -

Sun, July 8, 2007 - 9:09 PMI actually saw a troupe of women at the North Valley Bellydance Competition one time that used keys instead of coins for their costumes. Bras and belts were all keys! They looked really cool and made a nice sound, too.
My key ring has a little "handle" on it (a small metal baton that's my version of pepper spray) that I usually stick in my pocket when I get out of my truck... I love the sound it makes when I walk!

Mon, July 9, 2007 - 4:21 PMI'm actually too lazy to bring most of my costuming stuff into the house. So I generally have some belts, tops, Melodias, and various pieces of fabric in my trunk. I'd probably have damn near a full costume sitting in my trunk.... I do right now...

Mon, July 9, 2007 - 9:50 PMOooh Devi...is this a test....I was just on a casual trip....and ya I was asked to dance...I almost always wear black....and carry something with fringe or coins to cover my swimsuits....I have a pair of zills in almost every bag I own because i forget to take them out....my music is all ways with me too...but ya know what I got to dance too...my cousin is an african drummer...hehehh
If I was in my own car and it had not been cleaned out I could costume everyone their, makeup, music, and props....I also use my car as a dressing room -
