I'll be presenting "Egyptian Dance: Evolution of an Art Form", a video & lecture workshop, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on April 18, 6:30 - 8:30 pm. This will be followed by a hafla. This is the same video / lecture I presented at Diva Soma studio's grand opening.
Here's the tribe.net event posting: southdakota.tribe.net/event/E...6efc856c
And here's a page on my web site with a link to the details: www.shira.net/shira/workshops.htm
Every dance has a history, and knowledge of that history empowers those of us who study, teach, and perform the dance today. Discover how Oriental dance ("belly dance") evolved from its roots as a social dance into the theatrical form we know today.

Re: If you missed my "history of belly dance" lecture at Diva Soma's opening, here's a second chance!
Mon, March 23, 2009 - 10:12 AMJust wanted to add that this will be a benefit for a non-profit, Therapeutic Healing Institute, that offers services such as free massages and training in visualization to cancer patients.
* Cancer patients and survivors may attend free of charge.
* For others, the workshop fee is $30. 83% of that goes to Therapeutic Healing Institute. (The rest is needed to pay for renting the studio.)
* People who attend the workshop can attend the hafla free of charge.
* Those who wish to attend *only* the hafla, and *not* the workshop, pay $10 each (again, free to cancer patients & survivors), and 50% of this goes to Therapeutic Healing Institute.
