I'm trying to figure out if I like this layout. So far, it's just pinned on or laying there. The center panel is a piece of embroidery that my great Aunt gave to me. One of my relatives from the Ukraine did it over 20 years ago. I thought what a great piece for a tribal costume. Did you know that history thinks the Amazons are from that region? At 5'11" I've always thought of myself as an amazon and I'm a ukie. So it's a perfect two-fer.

I like it, and the history of the center panel really makes it special! I would add some more of something with visual weight to the bottom...perhaps coins (real, not stamped tin) sewn at the top of each dangle and in between each pair of dangles?

I'd be concerned that the metals jinglie pieces will get caught up in the fringe and tear it.

I would add very long red and green tassels to hang down between each silver dangle. As you are very tall, this would look stunning. The belt itself is absolutely beautiful ! A.

I love the layout. They are right, you could probably add longer dangles or coins and make it even better. Just make sure not to sew anything directly to the heirloom embroidered piece and handle it with care so it will last a long time. You may want to get the embroidered piece professionally treated with scotchgard and/or starch to help keep it from fraying or getting stains. (starch to keep from fraying, scotchgard to repel stains)

I have the same shisha trim you are using and I see where you are trying to tie the black in by using the black fringe. I love the heirloom piece. Are you sewing all this onto a seperate backing? I would suggest it. I would eliminate the red puffy ball trim (I know there is a word for this but I forget), the short black fringe and the coin/metal tassels (these will get caught up in the fringe) and replace with black puffy ball trim with tribal coins or drilled Ukraine coins sewn on between the puff balls and add long red fringe. You are so fortunate to have such a piece and have a true connection to it. It is beautiful!

I just wanted to say the embroidered piece is exceptionally beautiful and these ladies seem to have given you some wonderful advice to keep it beautiful! It is a wonderful thing to have something to connect you to your past. So far the belt looks lovely. Continued good luck!
