I'm not sure if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything using the search so....
How do you make these fabulous hair falls that I see some of you wearing?
I thought about just braiding interesting types of yarn, etc. but I don't think it'll be bulky enough if you know what I mean. If I make the thinner ones I think I'll need so many that it'll be too heavy for hair clips. So, what do you think? I'd love to hear your ideas and experiances! :-)
Thanks!

For a fun alternative, check out www.jungledread.com - she does my 'dreads'. She also makes falls and wigs, so you don't have to keep them in as extensions, like I do. There used to be a great fake hair site called Quinnster, but it seems to have died.

Making a fall basically amounts to getting black elastic and tying, tying, tying stuff onto it - yarn, synthetic dreadlocks, cord, fabric, whatever's clever. Then you make a bun or ponytail out of your own hair and tie the fall over it. Make two falls and tie them to buns on either side, then 'cross over' bits of them for a fuller look, too. Sorry I can't provide links - I was sad to see Quinnster go.

I have a photo in my album where I made loose teddy bear ears with my hair. On each side I took a barrette with yarn falls (some braided, some beaded &/or with shells) tied to it, clipped it above the ears and draped the falls on either side to hide the elastic.

Cruise over to my profile. My "fraggle hair" is just multi strands of yarn.
I do sell them. I should get an ebay store for them, but I haven't gotten around to doing it.

The fraggle hair is cool! How much are you selling it for?

I sell them for 10 bucks. They are washable and dryable, no special care needed.
If you wanted to sew embellishments in them, they are great bases for coins, shells, beads and other what nots
I'll take pics of the colors I have available, if you don't see a color combo ready made that you want, you can specify colors and I will make them.
If you want embellishments sewn in, I will adjust the prices to reflect the materials and labor.

OK, here's another question for you wonderful people who have been helping me. I've been looking at all types of hair falls, dreads, braids and beaded falls etc. my concern is hitting myself in the face when I do spins. When I first started dancing, the trend with the troop I started with was to actually tie one or two hair twists to the underside of your own hair so that it was just a bit longer than your natural hair and tie bells, beads, etc. to the end. They looked pretty cool by themselves but became lethal weapons whenever we did a spin. I can remember almost chipping a tooth one time when the braid came around and hit me in the mouth!
It looks like most of the hair falls I looked at keep the heavy stuff at the top, but I still see some made out of beads, etc that look great but....
I was just wondering your thoughts on this.
