Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 7:29 AMJUST finished!! I made a red-satin-lined, zebra-print cloak/cape for my Cruella de Ville costume: tribes.tribe.net/diycostum...9a72d20179 :) First time in a long time I haven't gone as a bellydancer-something. LOL
Can't wait to see pics of the Deadpool costume when you're done, Erika!! -

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 10:37 AMOh, yeah, there will be LOTS of photos. My troupemate is going as Corpse Bride - can you tell we dig Halloween???
And we're going out after the Trick-o-treating (all of my friends have kiddos & I don't), so I think I'm gonna hand out candy in FULL costume & whenever I open the door, I'm just gonna say "DO YOU HAVE PUPPIES???" I wouold fall over if a kid dressed like a dalmation walked up to my door... -

Fri, October 23, 2009 - 7:34 AMi wish i could say i was sewing something cool for my costume... but i'm going to be courtney love circa early 90's this year... so basically i'm putting on a messy blond wig, some fishnets and nude panties underneath and a white mens undershirt that says "eat my fuck" on it. oh, and high heels. farm3.static.flickr.com/2389/2...674.jpg
oh, and i'm going to fall down a lot. www.ballslist.com/celebrity...y-love.jpg

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 9:13 AMDeadpool is the SO's fave character next to Wolverine. LOL!
No sewing this year for me. Looks like it'll be scrounge the closet and see what's in there, scrounge the fabric stash and see what I can use with safety pins. One year I went as a witch. I had some spider fabric I didn't mind cutting up and pinned it to a black shirt and over a black skirt and noone noticed, they thought it was made that way. Safety pins are a girls best friend. LMAO! -

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 11:27 AMSigh. I haven't even started my Halloween costume because I'm finishing a belly dance costume for a Halloween Hafla performance tomorrow. On Sunday, I can start my Halloween costume. -
-
Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 11:31 AMwhat are you gonna be? :)
i'm busy working on a belt for a hafla on sunday too but fortunately my costume only requires that i write on a shirt with a sharpie and smudge my lipstick real bad.. hehe -

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 12:11 PMThe belly dance outfit is circus inspired, but not a literal interpretation of one. For the Halloween costume, I'm going to make that Steampunk Victorian skirt that Erika posted a tutorial for, and if I have time, make a period jacket. If I don't have time to make the jacket, I'll wear my red brocade and black leather Victorian corset with it. :) -

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 1:04 PMooo sounds pretty :)
i love the steampunk look!
i think everyone should post some halloween photos!!!! -

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 1:20 PMNo dressing up for me. I love Halloween but for the last 2-3yrs, haven't felt very halloweeny, even though I buy halloween stuff and i'm attempting to make a scary ghost.

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 4:19 PMI still can't bring myself to sit at the sewing machine - in spite of having things to sew up for friends.
IF I do anything for Halloween, I'll wear my belly-dancing pirate outfit from the June show.
My kidlets - well, they can never make up their mind in time for me to sew anything and I refuse (especially right now) to be rushed.
-
Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 8:04 PMI made my husband an Elvis suit, and I'm still sewing the jewels on it.
I made myself a Princess Elizabeth I costume for a Renaissance festival this summer, and never wore it because the weather was too icky. I never got around to making the French hood, and I don't think I'll have time. -
-
Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 1:48 PMFor Halloween this year I'll be wearing the costume I made last year and didn't get to wear. I'm going to use it dang it!

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 3:12 PMI haven't even started, either. I've got the pattern but not the fabric - gonna be sewing like a mad woman this week!!

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 8:26 AMReusing last years costume that was so complicated to sew that I made my Mommie do it. Gonna get as much use as possible out of it. I DO still have to tack on some bits and make the jewelery. Going as American McGee's Alice but I can't bring myself to splash blood or ashes on my costume so I will be Clean but Goth Alice. Was regular Alice last year but I have new boots :) -

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 1:08 PMbecause i'm in a troupe, i always go as a bellydancer for Halloween, every year! this year we'll be at the Mercury for "Depth Charge: Terror from the Deep" night on Halloween. so we've been working with decayed cheesecloth (looks like rotted fishing net), dead dried starfish, and dark taffeta shredded to look like seaweed. yeehaw! a sea-witch look.
of course i was up last night sewing that costume because i'm going to wear it tonight too to a Halloween hafla at the Funhouse. Haven't even finished the bustle yet... I'll be sewing it in the dressing room still tonight, knowing me!

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 4:18 PMNo Halloween shenanigans for me this year, much to my annoyance. *pout*
Last year we hosted a Steampunk and bellydance cabaret and encouraged all of our guests to dress up. It was a huge hit. We were supposed to be doing another themed show this year, but decided to postpone it for next year due to an overabundence of life issues for everyone.
Bah Humbug.

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 5:46 PMMe as well. Still have to sew some sort of Frankenstein-influenced dance belt (it'd be a corset belt if I had time, but I don't think I do because I'd have to redraft my pattern). Going as the Bride of Frankenstein('s Monster) to a Halloween Hafla, then out afterwards-- so gotta make the coverup/dress yet, too. Caved and *bought* the 8 year old's costume.

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?

Re: Who's still sewing for Halloween?
Sat, October 31, 2009 - 9:04 AMUnfortunately I get to work tonight. But Wal-mart had these tiger ear headbands with tails. And since I had an orange shirt from work, I painted black stripes on it. So, I'm a Subway Sandwich Artist Tiger. Sigh, so sad. But at least we get to dress up.

Mon, November 2, 2009 - 1:28 PMWe went to a ren faire for Halloween and I was still finishing it off on the way there! :) I was skeptical of wearing all the bright colors together, but I was really surprised and pleased with the results.
