While perusing a few sewing/DIY sites I came across this tut. Looks like it has some interesting potential for BD.

Re: Cool T-shirt Shrug
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 6:45 AMThat is so cute! And yes, I've tagged it as a *favorite* and will be keeping my eyes open for t-shirt sales. ((It's getting close to that time of year when fall fashions are coming in and summer fashion is going out.))
I'm also going to go through the rest of that website when I have more time.
Thanks for the link, Melissa!

Re: Cool T-shirt Shrug
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 5:39 PM...ok, I made this!
...got a t-shirt (my *normal* size) - WallyWorld cheapie with Mr. Bubble on it ;-0
...split it up the front and cut off the neck band
...folded back 1" up the front and around the neck to form a casing - oh, that corner where the body of the t-shirt meets the neck has to be finagled to be more straight, otherwise there's a sharp corner that makes the fabric pucker and gather up funny in that area - mine still doesn't quite suit me, but I think I can work with it
...ran a very narrow ribbon through the casing - I need a thicker ribbon
...not real keen on how the gathering looks - think if I tack down the gathering at the back neck to keep them and the shoulder seams in place, I can work the front gathers better
I'm posting a picture now and will link to it here in a bit.

Re: Cool T-shirt Shrug
Thu, July 9, 2009 - 6:50 AM...did a bit of finagling on the shrug
had originally used 1/8" ribbon - way too narrow - changed it out to 1/2" and am much happier - even though I worked to straighten out the sharp corner between neckline and shirt body, it still had a bit of a corner......the wider ribbon helped *straighten* out the corner
...will be wearing it to class tonight ;-0

Thu, July 9, 2009 - 2:53 PMMe too!! And my daughter's closet...I think I might have a couple of under the bust turkish vests in there, especially from a truly horrible pleather tshirt. Problem is I don't know how to sew anything that thick with my plastic sewing machine.
