Help! ^_^*
Okay, does anybody know any tutorials or have advice for beading a Egyptian Cabaret style bra? I've never beaded before in my life and I am really intimidated. Is there a Tribe on beading also?
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks,
Emma

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 7:22 PMDon't use 5 mm sequins. They're too tiny, and they'll drive you crazy. I used that size for 3 sets, and then I discovered 8mm sequins! 8 mm is so much better.

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 7:31 PMdon't feel compelled to cover every inch with beads and sequins, cover your base with a nice fabric and let it show through -

You can cover a lot of surface area nicely with just sequins and seed beeds. The bigger the sequins the more surface area covered. Take a sequin, send the needle up through the bottom tacking it your costume, thread 4-5 seed beeds and then send the needle down into another sequin and into the costume. Make sense? I have seen well done costumes simply covered in this way. xoxoK -

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 7:43 AMDon't forget to tie knots frequently, and I highly recommend using a bead spinner. (I made two costumes completely covered with beads and sequins before I even saw a bead spinner.) -

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Fri, November 13, 2009 - 5:58 PMNymo nylon thread, size D, is pretty think, sturdy *and* fits beading needles and small beads. I've also tried Firemountaingems.com "Fire Line" thread. I like it, but it's pricey.

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Sat, November 7, 2009 - 6:47 AMI've done a lot of beading on hard cupped bras. If you would like to see pictures, I'll post them here for you. It does take a LONG time and strong fingers and plyers.

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Tue, November 10, 2009 - 9:34 AMInstead of stitching through the bra cups, I bead onto a layer of my covering fabric and then applique the beading to the bra cups. Also, I make fringe on grosgrain ribbon and sew that on under the applique. Easier on the fingers.

Sat, November 7, 2009 - 7:00 PMI'll try to get pictures up next week sometime. I have a couple of bras that I replaced cups in that were too small.

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 10:26 AMI once did a cabaret style bra in beads, semiprecious gemstones, and shell buttons. I used a lingere bra as the base and found that the cups sagged under the weight of all the beadwork. I fixed it by getting stiff swimsuit cups and stitching them inside the lingere bra. I think it took around half a year working on and off to get the whole thing done.

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Fri, November 13, 2009 - 5:41 AMjust a couple tips: use beading thread or dental floss; and if you use bugles (they have a great look & cover space nicely) 'bookend' them with roccailles (or seed beads) so the bugles dont' cut the thread. Also glue your knots if you can. -

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Fri, November 13, 2009 - 6:00 PMI never would have thought of dental floss! Is it pretty strong? -

Re: Beading a Caberet style bra?
Fri, November 13, 2009 - 11:48 PMDental Floss is really strong. I used it on my coin costume two years ago and not a single thing has fallen off!
