So I just finished my second bedlah :) Yay! I've posted some pics, and please excuse my lack of makeup or fussy hair. I plan on making some sort of arm bands and a head piece too. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    Very nice!

Simple and effective - you will probably find that you get a huge amount of mileage out of this set.

ohhhh wowowowowowow! i'm in the workings on a belt and been trying t find a solution to something that kept bugging me and your belt totally does it!!! hadn't thought of taking the fringe off the bottom edge ! it's totally what i need! thanks loads for the idea!

could you put up pics of your belt flat on the floor or something?
i can't seem to get a good shape into mine :(

how did you make yours so nicely shaped and fit you so well?

it's a lovely bedlah, i think you can be proud of yourself! ;)

      another question,

what fabric did you use? and how did you make it stiff enough to hold the shape well?
i was thinking of using cotton and fabric thickener but i don't even know how stiff the belt has to be (all my belts are coin belts... this is first attempt at making a bedlah... the bra was easy but the belt is killing me!!)

"The base of the belt is a layer of buckram, a layer of stiff interfacing on both sides, then a layer of quilt batting on the top. The bra is just a regular bra that I cut the shoulder straps off of. Then I cut about half of each side band off and replaced it with grossgrain ribbon before covering. That way the brand retains some stretch, but also has enough stability to keep things put :) "

I got PM about it.... because I had the same questions! ( I think I'm going to go with sugar petals base... I think. I just am not sure I'm ready to take the plunge on doing the whole base/bra by myself from scratch... going with a bedlah is going to be my own form of work cut out for me! )

          thanks Basha!
ugh, the sugar petals base might be a good idea.... i haven't the leastest clue how to go about getting a good shape into the belt..... i kinda have a shape i like but i'm not sure it'll turn out any good :(

see the only belts I have made have been tribal... so the 'shape' wasn't as critical because I had two pieces anyway and one could easily be darted. So no big deal... making something fit more snug agains the base of the spin is a different story... this is a proceed with caution and much patience realm for me I know!

I would suggest to you... if you don't like the shape you have now... keep working it until you like it. Trust me... if you don't like it before you get all the stuff on it your SOL once you do and then you will have a bunch of work put into a belt that you really aren't going to wear because you never really liked it in the first place. You will probably always be unhappy with it.

i agree with that ;) but it's such a pain trying to get it to fit lol!
it's to the point that i'm on what seems like the 20th version of it and it's just annoying me so much i want to give up :(
but i already almost finished the bra to go with it heh and i know how i want it decorated, i just can't seem to do this base! aaauuuurrrgh!

      Thanks so much!

If I get a minute, I'll try to take a pic with the belt flat.

I started by taking a long piece of paper and wrapping it around my hips. then I just trimmed and made little darts in it until I was happy with the fit and the shape. Took me almost 2 weeks to do that part! Also, the flower thingy on the front is a separate piece I added later :)

Oh, and the fabric is strectch crushed velvet. I love it because it's super forgiving!

And I'm so glad I inspired some you! Thank you for all your compliments!

heh, i tried the paper thing but somehow..... it doesn't work as well as i'd hoped. or maybe i'm just doing it wrong lol.
i had to do it in one sitting cos made a paper tube and then went along trimming it and making darts (staples.... my pants are traumatised for life from my bad aim :( ) and then had to cut it down the middle to get it off me ^^
but the fit was far from perfect cos paper, well, doesn't fall that well on a curve..

Instead of stapling try just folding the paper in triangles (pointing downwards) and scotch taping it :) If you add enough darts, it should lay just like your belt will. And remember, that the belt will actually be stiffer than the paper you're using for the pattern.

It just takes a lot of patience!

but all the darts in the paper... i'm gonna hafta do in the belt fabric too, right?
it's gotta be hell if there are loads lol!
how many did you have? more or less

Let's see...I think I had roughly 4-6 in back and about 2-4 in the front...

And I didn't put them in the fabric. Let me back track a bit....

I start of by taping together a bunch of pieces of computer paper so they'll wrap around my hips. Then I put the bottom edge of that on the widest part of my hips. Then I add all my darts. When I'm done with that step, I have a rectangular belt that's perfectly fitted to my hips.

Next, I add the shape. I cut out pieces and tape on more pieces to give it the look that I want. When I was done with this step, I had actually trimmed off the bottom of all darts, which basically means that they got made into the pattern.

So then I just traced my pattern onto my base materials, cut them out, and sewed them together. No darts involved! Yay!

                thanks loads!! :)
