i also posted this in the costume tutorial tribe.
so this isnt a great tutorial, but really just a few progress photos of some pants i worked on today...
i found this set of cotton, ivory voile-like fabric curtains, complete with ruffles around two edges, at my work (value village). i snatched up both the narrower, and wider pieces to the set (four in total).
the narrower ones were the PERFECT width to make wrap pants with!!!
the wider ones ill probably eventually turn into other projects, maybe some bloomers, or knee length pantaloons ive been thinking about!
i have a pair of purchased (from a little indian shop in Seattle) wrap pants that i used to make a pattern. theyre SUPER simple, basically just a very large square of fabric, with a U cut out for the crotch. you just sew the crotches to eachother, roll over the top to make the waist, and add some ties. veeeery, very easy! i still need to add some darts to the waist of my pants (wish i would have before i rolled and sewed the waist, but ah well, i forgot!), and do some more things to them, but theyre wearable as is!
on to the pics!
one of the curtains, laid out flat:
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...f42f74f889
the curtain with the wrap pants laying on top (folded to show how each piece is shaped):
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...c096343972
the curtain folded in half, and a paper copy of half of one side of the wrap pants (the U goes on the fold, of course):
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...4a2dff0418
a closeup of the top of the pattern:
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...d683bba54a
the pants sewn and on me, with the ruffle to the front:
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...76d8328f47
and they can also be worn with the ruffle to the rear:
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...b8716d4db1
and
images.tribe.net/tribe/upl...e3f492a906
i am wearing ivory slip bloomers under the pants for modesty, but with belts and stuff over the top, id probably just wear skin colored panties, and call it good!
i <3 recycling stuff from work, and these came out pretty darn neat!
hope this is helpful for anyone interested in wrap pants!

Wed, July 1, 2009 - 6:39 AMthanks guys :D i just had to post because it was SO easy, along with recycling, and cheap to do!
theyre super comfy, as wrap pants should be! im slightly tempted to wear them to work under a skirt, but id probably get griped at, even if i made them from something i bought there hahaha....the floors are dirty too, which is another deterrent! -

Re: curtains to wrap pants!!!
Wed, July 1, 2009 - 6:08 PMim pretty darn hippy, and have a huuuuge rear, and i manage somehow...perhaps try some darts around the waist?

Re: curtains to wrap pants!!!
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 7:44 AMFind a pair of pants that you like how they fit and make a patten of that crotch and voila. That's what I did and then double checked with my measurement, made adjustments if necessary and I deepened the crotch area by about 2 inches (on top of the seam allowance) or so to give a little more freedom in that area. I'm rather hippy myself and took more measurements in that area (between waist and mid thigh) than most sewing sites show you to make. I have a bubble butt, LOL! , so I need more room in the back more than I do the front. -

Re: curtains to wrap pants!!!

Re: curtains to wrap pants!!!
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 2:19 PMheh...
I have so much fabric that I honestly don't know what to do with it all. I need a bigger Studio... (the single car garage just isnt big enough).
ok.... I bought every single piece of fabric with an idea of what I was going to do with it... I've just not had time!

Sun, July 5, 2009 - 11:04 AMI've got four full panels of ruffled curtains that I haven't been able to decide what to do with...now I think I know what I'm gonna do with one of them...think I might dye mine first, tho...got a horrible country blue edging on them that just would not go with the belly dancer look...unless you're dancing to Cotton Eyed Joe, that is...;-) -
