What do YOU use???
I found these on etsy... www.etsy.com/view_listing.php
But I just cant get myself to pay $22 for 4 of them.
I've emailed hubby asking if he can order the washers in these sizes... (He does 100% of purchasing for an industrial construction company)
I hate pins.
with my NEW pattern paper (*squeeee*) It tears so easily with the stupid pins.

Sun, October 25, 2009 - 8:19 AMI've used books before too. I've also used my pin cushions instead of the pins in them. I prefer pinning, but on simple pattern pieces, I'll just grab whatever is handy and flop it on top.

Wed, October 21, 2009 - 9:21 PMWould there be any reason why you couldn't just wrap together a fwe regular hardware-store washers? -

Re: Pattern Weights....
Thu, October 22, 2009 - 6:32 AMI never thought of weights either, where have I been?!! So many possibilities - those etsy ones sure are cute though!

Re: Pattern Weights....

Re: Pattern Weights....
Thu, October 22, 2009 - 6:36 AMI've usually just used my scissors, since have a million pairs and can't seem to keep the kidlet and SO from using them on everything but the kitchen sink. I have threatened death if they use anymore of my marked "for fabric only" scissors. LOL!
I like Bellatrix thought... using some washers together. I think I even have some at home, somewhere. -

Re: Pattern Weights....
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 11:31 AM"No more using tuna or soup cans for weights!"
And what's wrong with that? I'm not going to spend $22 on weights when I could be buying more fabric! :-P Besides, it's only me there when I'm sewing...who cares if my pattern weights are cute, or if they contain something edible? :-) -

Re: Pattern Weights....
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 6:56 PMI've been using some cobalt egg cups, my magnetic pin holder and some other thing (I cant remember).
I just want MORE! LOL
and hubby said that he can get the wide ones... the over 4" ones.
I like the idea of low profile, and with as much stuff as I cut... well... ya...
pattern weights are goooood.
especially when I'm using fabrics like pleather... pins leave marks! -

Re: Pattern Weights....
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 5:19 PMballoons full of fish tank pebbles or other small round things
Been using them for years. They wear out, I just put the filling in another balloon. Flexible, don't slide. You could use the long ones for curves and corners. -

Re: Pattern Weights....
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 10:39 PMoohhhh nother good idea! (balloons!)
Hubby brought me in a stack of HUGE washers today... =) *grin of glee* He's such a good hubby!
I need to wash em, but he remembered!

Re: Pattern Weights....
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 10:48 AMi have some small round magnets that i keep in my sewing area that are pretty thick, (not like those ones for craft) and they work well for weights. then, they also hold the pins around the sewing area, and stick on the sewing machine too, to hold pins and small scissors. (the industrial one, not the 'toy' one, it's plastic)

Re: Pattern Weights....
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 7:17 PMI have to admit that what I use for pattern weights are Thomas the Tank Engine take-along (die-cast) trains. The tenders are great for small bits of pattern. My kids have a million trains and are happy to volunteer them to help Mama. I imagine Matchbox cars would also work good. Small metal toys ftw!
