I really love flair pants, i have a pair by Meloida and gmoth but they both give me really bad camle toe look in the crotch. I'm thinking it might have to so with the shape of my thighs? I notice it more with my gmoth than the other.
I'v been thinking about making a pair of my own but wondering what i might need to do to avoid that issue. Anything ideas or thoughts?

Re: flair pants an camle toe
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 1:55 PMOther than wearing a mini skirt to cover? Wearing a pair of dance pants (they're an underwear item like boy shorts) might help? -

Thu, October 29, 2009 - 2:13 PMskrit is an option, as for the underwear, it dosent help. Its not as if its too tight in the are and riding up, rahter itsr eally baggy and creates all these folds. If anything it feels like i would need to stuff my crotch (haha this sounds so bad, sorry) to have a more smooth line. -

Re: flair pants an camle toe
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 2:28 PMOk then please disregard my entire previous post! I was going on the assumption that they are riding up.
So, maybe you need a shallower crotch? Test that theory by pulling the pants up way high and dancing around.
Or maybe put the pants on inside out. Smooth the pants so the excess baggy fabric is at the front seam. Use some tiny safety pins to pin the seam closer to your body, taking up the extra fabric that was bagging. Then turn the pants back right side out and try them on (that's why I specified safety pins!) and see if the snugger crotch seam helps. -

Re: flair pants an camle toe
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 3:00 PMill give that a try for sure. Assuming that is the issue, can i just run it though the sewing matchine or am i going to have to take out the old seam and then re-sew it? Or is it just the same thing? -

Re: flair pants an camle toe
Fri, October 30, 2009 - 5:38 AMJust run it through the sewing machine. If you tucked up just a little, it should be fine as it is. If you tucked up a lot, and have an uncomfortable, thick or bunchy seam allowance, you can trim the excess away.
If you don't like the seam allowance you can cut it away. I'd put a row of zigzag stitches on the inside edge of the new seam, then trim the seam allowance down to the zig zags
BTW if that technique of reshaping the crotch works, once you get the pants fitting the way you like, you can trace the shape of the crotch onto paper. When you're making your own pants, place that paper shape over the pattern piece, and adjust the pattern to match the shape.

Re: flair pants an camle toe
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 2:23 PMMake the crotch deeper, so the inseam rides a little lower.
Put on the gmoth pair, then pull them down to the point where the crotch fits ok w/o toeing.
Then measure between the point where the pants waistband is sitting on your body up to the point where you want the waistband to be (Distance A).
Take the pants off. Measure the front crotch seam from the inseam to the top of the waistband (Distance B). Add A+B, that's your Crotch Depth.
Now, take your pants pattern, and measure the front crotch seam line from the inseam to the top of the waistband (do not include the extra seam allowance), that's the patterns crotch depth.
Extend the pattern at the top until the patterns crotch depth matches your crotch depth. Don't forget to add the seam allowance at the top of the pattern.

Re: flair pants an camle toe
Fri, October 30, 2009 - 4:01 PMIf I'm not mistaken, it's usually caused by the curve of the crotch not extending horizontally enough, in other words, should be wider at top of thighs, at the inner leg seam, not the side seam. But I don't know the proper way to fix that or whether both front and back need to be extended, or just one of those.
I don't know how to correct that on an already made pair of pants; the line would have to be altered on a new pattern. -

Extending curve of crotch;
