Wrap Pants

topic posted Thu, April 10, 2008 - 7:50 AM by  Rebekah
I've discovered something wonderful for dance pants. Wrap pants!!!

They're loose and flowing and you can make them out of whatever kind of fabric you like. Of course a really heavy fabric would probably not work, cuz you want the swishiness that the wraps give...but I absolutely love them!!!

I don't have a pic of me in them for dance, but I do have one of me wearing my favourite pair. My sweetheart actually has on a pair, too...he's the one that turned me on to them...:-D

people.tribe.net/d8d66e42-...9da4315497

They only take about 2 1/2 yards of fabric...and they're really easy to make.

I used to have a pattern for them, but the link is now dead...but here's a page with some more examples of them...and if you want to know how they're made, just PM me and I'll give you the basic instructions. They're great!!!

Yes, thanks...I was sad that my pattern was no longer available...but they're so easy and soooo fun.

I must confess that I broke down and ordered some from the link that I posted...just $14.99 for a pair of the pants and it comes with a halter and a tank...WOW!!!

I'll let everyone know about the quality and service.

Do let us know how the buy went, I think they look great and the price is perfect!

Yes PLEASE let me know how they are, that website may be the answer to a costuming dilemma I'm having! I need something white for my bottom half, and I've been debating over making or buying a 10 yard skirt but a) I suck at making skirts b) if I was going to buy it I was thinking it would be smarter to save up for the 25 yard since I also want one of those but they are expensive and c) I don't really 'need' a skirt, pants would work too. So these are really nice! I like the silk ones.
I may just indulge if you give good reviews :)

Oooh...I just noticed that even the silk set is only $14.99...how cool is that? You could get one of each type and not pay as much as you normally would for even one skirt!!!

              Thu, April 10, 2008 - 10:34 AM
I imagine they would be fairly easy to hem if they end up being too long for dancing wouldn't they? The bottoms are just straight I think?
I had a pair of this style of pant years ago but it was very brightly colored and patterned and I don't know what I found appealing about it LOL But anyway, they were called kabooki pants in local stores here, (spelling is phonetic, not sure what the real word was) but I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be inaccurate, we're a very small town haha

Yep...and if you don't want to hem, you can tie them at the bottom...or add a string tie, like some I've seen.

This is way awesome these look like super easy pants if you put then on correctly! Thank you so much!! I'm totally going to make them now! Way better then those simplicity pants I've got. Even tho I won't let go of that patternT

I just made myself a pair to dance in/wear out of a really pretty plum fabric and I LOVE them, though I think I'm going to change the closure method to buttons rather than ties, at least in the front so that my pants don't fall off if one of the ties comes loose! Talk about embarassing...Get it? EmBAREASSing...*snicker* Sorry guys...blame it on the Benadryl...

*giggle*...my fiance', who introduced me to the wraps, in the first place...(he got all his in Byron Bay)...has problems with them sliding down...he's a lil thing, anyhow...5'8" and about 145 lbs...and being a man, with no hips, he'd have to readjust his periodically...it was so funny when they'd start sliding and I'd have to hold onto the sides of them for him while he retied them a bit tighter...but he loves them just as much as do I...he pretty much grabs one of his pairs and puts them on as soon as he gets home from work...and wears them out all the time...it's sooooo sexy...:-D

LOL Rebekah, sounds like my husband. Except he's 6'2" and 135lbs! I outweigh him by quite a bit and I'm a foot shorter! I totally think wrap pants are hot on guys though...call it the hippy in me!

Yep...and so easy to get off of them, too...<insert eyebrow wiggley smiley>

Pat readily admits to being a hippie...and that's what I call him, most times...my sweet hippie...

Dreads, silk wraps around them...and the most hippie-fied clothes possible...plus, he goes barefoot most everywhere he goes...he's absolutely adorable.

I only just got around to checking this again, I'm so glad you guys had a good experience with them! I've been trying to decide what I can make or buy for my new costume, but I'm so poor and have so little time lately! I think these guys are my best option. Especially considering I started the triangle bra for my costume.... 2? 3? weeks ago and it's not even close to being finished :( sigh, then after that is belt, head band, fringe, dreads, and accessories! I think I need to splurge and buy the bottom half lol

I had bought a pair from Sahalie a while back. They were no where as cheap as $15, even on sale. But I really like them. I'm losing weight and it's nice to have a pair of pants that will shrink with me! The fabric I have is rayon I believe. Very swishy and comfy!

I also make and sell these pants. My prices are no where near as cheap, but they are also not mass produced but loving made by me out of sari style materials as well as beautiful brocades. :) If you are interested my website is www.fabulouspants.com and my ebay store is located at stores.ebay.com/Fabulous-Pants . Thanks!

P.S. Not sure if the above post was breaking this tribe's rules. If I just did, I am really sorry. (I just read the posting about this kind of thing) Once again, if I broke protocol, I apologize.

        Those are really lovely Nadima!
And you're right of course, it is better to buy things locally, and I try as often as I can. It gives me a bit of a complex sometimes lol! I may end up just making these after all if I can find a nice fabric here. It all depends on time and money and how strong my conscience is in the end.

*giggle*...the shop that I'm going to be working in when I go back to Oz has them made out of recycled saris, too...they're lovely...and I love the idea of using the recycled material.

I'd post a link, but the site is still being built...only the ornaments link works.

omg... my co-worker and I have been starting at these for like 10 minutes trying to figure it out, then I read the rest of the comments and I was like... I THINK I understand! not entirely sure. But that doesn't mean it's going to stop me from going to the store to buy fabric and see if I can make a pair tonight. lol. go figure I'm so retarded with stuff like this.

Gorgeous!! I love the idea of these pants, can't wait to try making a pair. I'm thinking in a nice cotton they'd be great for hiking - I'm not really a shorts type, but these look breezy and cool! And I've added your store to my list Nadima - I'm such a procrastinator I may just order some..... ;-)

Thanks for adding me! I just hope that you added my Etsy store: www.fabulouspants.etsy.com and not the ebay one.... I decided to leave ebay for Etsy so I could lower my prices from $65 to $50. I hope to have you as a customer someday! :)

Nadima, your stuff really is lovely...I'm just not able to handle $50. for a pair of pants...I wish I could, but my poor lil piddlin' budget just doesn't allow...

Is gonna be horrible once I start working in Wandering Wizard...I'll be lucky to come home with any money, with all the cool stuff like this that they have...I do love my silk...!!!

@ Rebekah - No worries. I totally can understand the not having money thing. Maybe one day I will see your name on an order though. One reason why I did not take a job at one of my fabulous fabric stores is exactly the same reason you are worried about your new job; I would come home with a negative paycheck. ;)

I just received my pants. I ordered to sets (wrap pants & tops). I LOVE THEM!! Shipping was a bit pricy (little over 12), but I finally found some that fit me correctly. Thanks again for the heads of up on the website!!

Okay ladies, the illustration here sucks but its a good decription of how to make them! I would just put a tie on the upper edges rather than just tying the ends together but it looks like they're totally easy.

Ye...and make them ALOT wider...unless you want the open side look...they're really supposed to overlap...but that's a pretty good general idea...

Faedra, where do you dance and/or take classes at, in the area? I'm just outside of Raleigh and I take classes with Sara Beaman from Blue Moon Dance...she's also part of the troupe called The Devoted...she's a wonderful teacher!

I love the idea of these duds, but frankly- no one makes 'em big enough (or short enough for that matter!) for someone of my stature!

Thanks for your kudos. I do offer tailoring services for people, so shortness is not a problem, nor is tallness. I have waist listings for how large to small mine will work on my website: www.fabulouspants.com

Also, I will be closing my eBay store soon in favor of an etsy store. I am already not impressed with eBay's policies. ;)

Sorry but I forgot to add something... they need an edit option for tribe! I forgot to mention that my pants are designed for women, so they curve better around our hips over the flat front design of most wrap pants. I played with the design for a bit to figure out how to better fit our body since this pant is a traditionally male pant design. Anywho I will quit rambling now.... ;)

        Fri, April 18, 2008 - 10:56 AM
But they come in sizes...so you might be able to get a pair to work...they're pretty versatile...and I even just got an email asking if I was pleased with my order....they've got great service...I'm willing to bet my second set will be here today!!!

Oh...as for short enough...you can tie them at the ankles...or just hem them up...I'm only 5'1", but they're not that much too long...and I like them that way...
        • Re: Wrap Pants

          Fri, April 18, 2008 - 11:52 AM
I have to agree with Rebekah on this one. I'm 5'1 as well and the pants are a perfect length and the tops were very comfortable. I had ordered two sets. I had the problem of size too and when I seen that they came in different sizes, they really do. I remember going to Chicago about two years ago, purchased a set for $20-$25 and it was supposed to be a plus size. No where near it. The large I ordered of this size was bigger than that so called plus size and true to the fit. I received an email today as well asking for my opinion and when I give, they're giving me 15% off my next order. You best to believe I will be doing that because I want to order some more sets.
