Hiya,
Ive just customised my second ever bra - wooo hooo
But Im now at the stage where I don't know whether to take off the bra straps and add halter neck ties, or just cover them up?
I ask this as Im a DD/E cup and have never worn halter neck bellydance bra as worry that I would have a wardrobe malfunction during performance, I just don't know if they would be as secure and wanted some advice really :-)
(Ive posted this on custume guild as well)
Thanks
Nicky

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 5:36 AMOh no, halter + DD's= bad plan. All the pressure from both the bra and holding up the ladies is going to be pressing on your neck! I would definitely forgo the halter style if you're above a B cup. I'm a personal fan of the X-back (I'm a 38DD or 36DDD) because it gives maximum support and it gives me a nice neckline. Good luck! -

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 7:45 AMDude, my boobs are on the up side and when I even wear a tight halter shirt over a bra, it kills my neck.
I went with the criss cross idea, and it is actually to me more comfortable than a regular bra because it takes so much of the weight off your shoulders.

Mon, April 7, 2008 - 1:04 PMYesyesyes... halter = painful neck, cross-back = fabulous support, and so comfortable!

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 11:14 AMI have smaller girls - B cup. I have a dance bra that has a halter neckine that I performed in on Friday night. Aside from the sore spot on the back of the neck, where the pressure was, the moment when the halter closure OPENED, and the fact that the bra kind of hung down around the sides and back because the bra is slightly loose on me .. Let's just say that I'm going to add some sort of over the shoulder straps to it before I wear it again...

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 12:04 PMI made my bra with a cross back and D rings. I cut the straps off entirely, then replaced them with wide cotton twill tape covered in the same velvet I used for the rest of the bra. I just posted a good shot of my back in my pictures if you want to see. -

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 1:35 PMYeah, I've heard the same thing about big boobs and halter ties - it's a no-no. I'm only a C cup and I made a halter style bra and although I was able to wear it a couple of times, it was always uncomfortable. I have to add it to the never ending pile of costume projects of things that need to be made or fixed. I would definitely recommend criss-cross, or at the very least, keep the front of the bra straps attached the way they are to the bra cups, but move the back of the bra strap in towards the bra's hook-and-eye closure, so that the straps go in at an angle. -

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 1:37 PMOh yeah, and D-rings are awesome. Never used them myself (yet) but a friend of mine has and she loves it.

No halters for you!
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 1:36 PMStrongly recommend you not support the weight of your breasts with a strap around your neck. That's your spinal cord back there! You might need it someday!
On the occasions when you end up wearing a halter bra anyway, strongly recommend you remove the hooks and eyes at the back of the neck and sew it closed the way you like it. That way you know it cannot come open!

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 6:50 PMim little, (nearly c since i gained weight) and bra straps in a halter even hurt my neck. if your worried about it still looking langerie (sp?) try crossing the straps in the back ^_^ -

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 2:27 AMNicky definitely the cross back.
Im still doing my bra and its going to weigh a ton so that with the added boobage weight its definitely going to be a cross back!

Re: Halter neck or strapping?
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 7:43 AMI like the support that a halter style bra gives, but the girls are a lot bigger than they used to be, and it does hurt the neck. My solution was to use a Y strap. Still holds things down in front the way I like but takes the stress off the neck. I did change up one of my old bras to an x strap and found it worked well, but I found that my shoulder blades got a bit chafed - might just need a bit of adjusting.
