now I"m a frustrated person.... enough bitching on to the questions at hand.
So here I have new fabric and a half concocted idea in my brain (sometimes it's the full costume... sometimes it's only half) And it seems I'm running on a half empty idea tank. =/ ... going with the simply non sparkly but beaded bedlah here.
Ok... black and plum georgette, panel circle skirt (al-la shira style) Black bra with black and red/plumish beading applique stuff.
Now I am partial to swags, I love swags. But all the caberet/triberet are either all coin... or all beaded that hang straight down, which I don't much like. Anybody got any thoughts... I'm toying going back to victorian style necklace as a swag but I"m not sure. I've been through every single triberet picture and I'm on page 23 (working back to front) of this tribe's pictures. And I'm still kind of coming up lacking inspiration.... kind of a gothie tribal style... elegant and somewhat timeless.... if that makes any sense at all. Its like it's there... but its floating... and whispy! grumble grumble. And I'm sorry to say I don't have a song that it's 'matched' to for anything. It's just time to bury myself in a costume!
Please throw something at me here ladies... (even if it's a black and purplish brick... that might help)!! t'ank yousa! =)

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 7:55 AMok, here are a couple ideas i'm toying with / attempting to put into action.
how about shells instead of coins? i'm putting this one into action right now. everywhere you'd normally put a coin, put a shell. and i'm not talking only cowries. nature made so many lovely shells, go out and use them!
idea number 2: feathers! as above, those things are lovely! but harder to place in a costume, i find.... but you could use, short black ones around the bra/belt for example...
idea number 3: also doing this one.... in with the feathers and shells (this is a "nature" themed costume, lol), replace any beads by semi-precious stones. i'm in the purple/blue/greens so went mostly with amethyst, lapis lazuli and malachite. but i also have some garnet and i think you could use that as a main color and add others too!
for swags, there are so many possibilities! one i find is rarely used is, rather than something heavy, use a piece of veil-ish material. there's a lot of nice, semi-transparent fabrics that are of one color, and that reflect another color. i have some here that's turquoisish, and reflects in red.... i think it would look lovely in a costume!
and there are so many different ways of setting this up in a swag....
or, you could also use lace-ribbon as swag. maybe sew a couple shells on it to add some volume.....
there are so many things you could do!! :)
hope any of that helps ;) -

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 5:21 PMi like shells. the one in my profile pic is a necklace i got when visiting my aunt in NYC
i say, look at necklaces for inspiration, they are great. ^_^ and shells are usually VERY sturdy, and hold up to dancing in them without chipping and breaking like you'd think they would
careful that a fabric swag doesn't accentuate or create a belly like it tends to do with breasts when it's draped all pretty. you don't look like you have anything to worry about though ^_^ -

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 4:16 AMoh I like those! great use, I think shells and I always think the chonic (I can't spell sue me) the ones that are really white and ribbed and stuff, if they are big enough you put them up to your ear and hear the 'sea' =p
(me likie necklaces as belly drapes too... last costume... yeah for targe' necklaces. ;)

By *swag*, do you mean drapes or loops?

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 9:02 AMyes em...
I found a grand total of two pictures with a form of beaded 'swags' and I think I really like that kind of idea.... I'm not sure how exactly but I think that'll be the plan of attack, simply but different than chain which is definitly the usual fall back. Or some variation of a beaded swag embellishment, ... not the heavy beaded fringe versiou... more like well a chain swag w/ coins... only w/ beads....
arg... I'm at work on a beautiful saturday pretending to care about the mason's putting up block.... so I'm rambling. SORRY! ;) -

Sat, May 17, 2008 - 9:12 AMBasha -
check back about -3- pages of topics (this tribe) to "Just for a giggle..."
It's the topic I started about a costume "bellydancer meets 1920's flapper"...anyway, there are many links there that could give you ideas about how to swag your beads.
Also, look at Neckleman's looped fringe costumes, ah, Dahlal has some looped fringe costumes. I didn't bookmark the website last night, but I googled *looped fringe bellydance costume* and came up with something called "Marta-the-legend" / a UK website that gave me some ideas about my own.
You can also look at pictures of Mata Hari and other dancers of her time - coins didn't seem to be used all that much.
And give me a few minutes and I'll post in the pictures the rough draft I've got for my own costume. -

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 10:39 AMI like swags that go from the left side of your body and drape around the right, or vice-versa, and smaller swags attached to the bigger ones.
The great thing is that then the strands don't get tangled up, which can definitely happen with straight bead drapes.
www.franksreelreviews.com/revie...x2.jpg
I couldn't find a back shot, but the beads go up in the back a little, being attached to long bead strands that continue longer down to her butt. I think maybe you could take really long strands and attach them to the under front of your bra and then the side backs of your belt?
Have fun with whatever you do, and post pictures! -

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Sat, May 17, 2008 - 12:23 PMoh I'll have to throw that in... one of my favorite movies... and check out the back side, I mean its an excuse to watch a hot woman kick some ass in some banging clothes!
I totally agree with the long straight ones that get tangles, part of my apathetic view... that and I don't think they are terribly flattering on me due to the fact I don't have a long torso, so it just kind of gives me a weird Y split.
Thanks for the triberet link, but I actually I went through all of their pictures too.... those and the everyday bellydancer ones. (hey... I have 8 hours of 'work' and a computer and a half baked idea rattling around... don't judge me because sometimes I can sit around and plan costumes and get paid. =) he he he)

Sat, May 17, 2008 - 10:50 AMDidn't mean to take so long to get picture posted - my computer *mouse* takes a hike occasionally and everything comes to a screeching halt - have to let it wander around a bit before I can get it back to work ;-)

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 4:38 PMI used pearl swags on my cab costume:
people.tribe.net/taran/pho...72bb1ac68b
I didn't do any beading... the fabric came that way. The pearls were just xmas swag. :D
It's not really tribaret, though... -

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 5:09 AMwow... thats gorgous! =)
I'm not sure I can go with pearls, it might not work w/ the fabric/skin tone (never really rocked the pearls well at all) well... but I am definitely NOT going to rule it out, esepcially after seeing yours and sarah skinners pearls, never imagined they could be that stunning! -

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 5:31 AMBasha,
For my *next* project, I'm using "glass pearl beads"......an assortment of pearl-like beads in pastels (pink, green, white, a silvery blue/or maybe a blue silver?, gold). Maybe you could find something like those?

Re: Addendum to being a bad person...
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 6:28 AMtotally possile.
I'm really leaning on a victorian era look for some reason, it just sort of wedged it's way into my mind... so I'm thinking long long swags of really different sized beads... probably the weird <> shaped ones mixed with smaller round pearl looking ones. a touch of lace on top. I should have some sketches after next week. =) -

Wed, May 21, 2008 - 6:34 AMThat's kinda' what my buddy & I are thinking......she pointed me in the direction of a dancer named *Frederique*......I've looked at her website and a couple of her youtube videos. Check them out for an idea or two.
