Any Tips Or DIY Ideas For Camouflaging Not So Flattering Tummy??? I am new to bellydancing and unfortuately I don't feel confident enough to show my tummy yet because I have a not so flattering tummy and alot of stretch marks that my 2 daughter's gave me as a present when I gave birth. LOL So, I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions for camouflaging without ruining the look? I prefer more Tribal looks like Rachel Brice and Zoe. I have seen some ladies wear a fishnet type top to cover tummy which I have tried in class. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks so much!

Re: Any Tips Or DIY Ideas For Camouflaging Not So Flattering Tummy???
Thu, April 3, 2008 - 3:31 AMI found a triangle shaped halter top at a thrift store that comes down and covers my tummy with fringe. (there is a picture in my photos) I think something like this would be easy to make from a pretty piece of cloth or a shawl. I have read on another website here: costumegoddess.com/CGtellsall.htm
that a belt that comes up to a point over the bellybutton can help. My Mom (who is 67) and I have gotten a lot of great ideas from this website.

Thu, April 3, 2008 - 6:24 AMHow about a full length ghawazee dress that curves UNDER your bra? Covers the tummy, except for a small sliver. You can make them with or without sleeves. -

Thu, April 3, 2008 - 8:38 AMThe pic that is currently on the front page of this tribe (or here tribes.tribe.net/diycostum...6a1c734e2) is a GREAT example of the ghawazee, it looks very modern and almost 'funky' to me. Before seeing that picture and realizing the possibilities of the ghawazee coat/dress I wasn't too thrilled about them, but I LOVE that one's style! -

Re: Any Tips Or DIY Ideas For Camouflaging Not So Flattering Tummy???
Thu, April 3, 2008 - 8:47 AMGo to the BigBeautifulBellydancer tribe....there are several discussions on different types of belly coverings.
I didn't want to show my belly at first either, but as I have been dancing more I get to the point where I've become more comfortable in who I am and what I look like. But each person has to be comfortable with themselves so if covering yours makes you feel more comfortable, then do so. I'm just saying that your stretch marks are okay! It is a part of you and your life. Wear it as the badge of motherhood! The rest of us aren't looking and judging. -

Thu, April 3, 2008 - 9:12 AMAwwww Sanura! Thank you for your lovely comment. I appreciate it very much. I am sure once I get used to dancing and my tummy I will gradually shed and show some more skin. LOL I guess maybe since I am new and I am still learning the movements, I don't want to be distracted by my tummy issues. I did a search for that group you recommended. Is it called BigBeautifulTRIBALBellydancers? Or is there another one you are talking about. Thanks so much! -

Thu, April 3, 2008 - 3:44 PMi wear that shell necklace that is in my profile pic to cover my tummy. i should probably show it off before i have kids, but im not so high on the self esteem. the "female" end of the clasp is sewn into one side of the vest, and clasp bit is attached to a skirt bar on the inside of the other side- so that i can still open and close it ^_~)
happy hips!

Re: Any Tips Or DIY Ideas For Camouflaging Not So Flattering Tummy???
Fri, April 4, 2008 - 7:48 PMHi!
I have really bad stretch marks and a big scar on my navel (stretch mark running through a navel piercing during pregnancy) that I'm pretty self conscious about, and I'm planning on henna-ing my belly for a performance at the end of april. I'll let you know how it works out. I had one performance in the past and used a mesh belly-cover thing that I painted on, and it got a lot of compliments. I just cut out an hourglass shape of black mesh fabric, puff-painted a henna design in black on it and then safety pinned it to the inside of the waistband of my pants and inside hem of my choli.
