Why is it that I can do beadwork for hours and yet sitting down and sewing on hardware (hooks, eyes, snaps, etc). makes me want to scream?

Anyone else? What do you love/hate about costume work?

I hate covering bras and constructing belts... I can sit four hours and hours decorating them, but it's creating the bases that drives me nuts!

      cutting out the fabric
      cutting my fingers on wire
running out of yarn on crochet
      etc.

I love the creation but hate cutting out the fabrics. I think the creation is the exciting part because its invetive. The finishing almost is a let down because the creation is such a high.

Cutting out fabric is my least favorite part. I'm always certain that I'm going to cut it wrong and ruin it. I'll sit and stare at the fabric with scissors in my hand and .... just sit :)

        I too loathe cutting fabrics...
not that I'm worried that I'm going to ruin it... I just find it tedious!

Once I get sewing I'm FINE! I should hire someone to do the cutting for me...

The design and creating part are my favorite... the cutting I can do without...

though, I have found using my rotary cutter SUPER helpful with cutting items out, even with rounded edges. My wrists dont hurt so bad! nor my hands!
I'm lucky enough to have a table covered with a rotary mat (its big...)

Covering bras is the worst, I guess the tops are all the worst because I anticipate either improper boob fitting, or gaping ughhhh....Don;t even get me started. I can do skirts and belts all day but anthing going on the upper body no way.

In the early days my mother did that for me, because I hate to do that.
Now I'm living on my self, and I hate it still. Oh, and lining.

    Covering bras, ughhh....

I like brainstorming and designing a conceptual costume and then going out and visiting the fabric stores to find all the pieces I need, its so much fun for me!

I agree with others....actually cutting fabric is the worst for me....so afraid it'll get cut wrong...i love having yards of it and fear messing up the cut so bad that i'll have wasted beautiful yardage....

maybe that's what's wrong with me and why I have so much fabric and haven't done anything with it except buy more. LOL!

Anything to do with covering or fitting bras, because I end up having to put the thing on and take it off a dozen times while i tinker.

Fitting bras is hard, but I don't actually mind covering bras or bets.. I don't actually mind the construction, maybe it's because I can't bead worth sh**. I love making my own costumes, but I am careful to choose shimmery, nice fabric so that I don't have to do any complicated decoration beyond sewing on (pre-made) fringe, trims and crystals.

I've thought of doing a bust dummy just for that reason. I found this video one day on youtube. Kinda interesting.

Iámbuying beautiful fabric just for having it, and maybe just maybe the perfect project comes along, because the addiction is fabric.
        Sewing is secondry.

Stopping the sewing machine and winding a bobbin.

Running out of black thread and WalMart is closed.

Having absolutely no beading needles in the house.

Finding the perfect piece to finish a costume and being too broke to buy it.

Those are my beefs with the costume making process!

      >>>Finding the perfect piece to finish a costume and being too broke to buy it.

      WORST PROBLEM EVER!!!

I'm still going with the panic before cutting out the fabric but that comes in a close second.

I always try to keep two bobbins of the same color going, But for things like black and white, I have 3-4 of them.
It saves lots of TIME! =)

Buy cones of black thread. Is what I do. I have 6 here right now, 5 of them are in use, and I have a backup!

and I TOTALLY understand not having funds to finish it!!!!

I dont have many finished projects for myself...

I so hate rewinding a bobbin!

I however, have a very old tank of a sewing machine, so the bobbin is no easy task like those new fangled machines.

getting down to the nitty gritty of actually sewing. Design, shop, cut, bead (OK making fringe is less fun) no problem - spending time in front of the machine= Blaah.
