I was in this imports store in town this weekend and I came across these cowrie falls that are like eight feet long for $14.95. That deal is just too freaking good to pass up, but what would I do with them? They are wrapped so if I cut them in half they would certainly unravel. While in the store I was hemming and hawing about getting one and I took out my cell phone to take a picture to show you guys (yes you were the first people to pop into my head), but I got yelled at. Apparently they are afraid people are going to spy or something...?
So, I'll try to describe them... They looked like cowrie falls for Godzilla or Mothra or something. Hee hee. They had clusters of cowries every eight inches or so with little puff ball type tassels. As I said before they are wrapped.
Anyway, would they be worth it? They are cheap! But would it be worth it to get them and mess with them? They were purdy.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I can't stop thinking about them.

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 7:47 AMOoooo! Get them and loop them! I'm picturing clips or hair ties every so often and an effect that looks almost like those hairstyles with all the looped braids.

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 7:53 AMTotally worth it! Tie them around your skirt if you have to. Even if you end up de-constructing it, I think it is worth it.

Tue, May 13, 2008 - 9:13 AMI think you should get them! Eight feet for only like fifteen bucks! That seems almost too good to be true. I'm sure you'll find an application for them if you just play around with them for a while. If there was some way you could tier it, it would be a neato belt addition.

Re: The Godzilla of Cowrie Falls
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 8:04 PMI got yelled at for taking pictures of merchandise so that the handicapped woman I shop for could see the clothes! I said "Fine! I'll shop
elsewhere! She wants to see what she's paying for!" In most cases, it is more expensive for me to make the stuff than to buy it, so I
really don't see what their problem is.

Re: The Godzilla of Cowrie Falls
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 11:23 AMFor 15 bucks I am thinking of having you pick me up one without a picture!!! Even with the shipping across the US it would be cheaper than trying to make them!

Re: The Godzilla of Cowrie Falls
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 11:31 AMBuy them!!! Glue is your friend. Glue where you want to cut & nothing will ravel.
Was this a local store or a chain like World Market??

Re: The Godzilla of Cowrie Falls
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 12:20 PMYou have me convinced. I can't make it over there today, but I'll go tomorrow on my lunch break. I would be happy to get some for other folks. If anyone wants to work out the particulars PM me.
They are at a place called Jackalope. There is a store in Santa Fe, one in Albuquerque and one in Hollywood. I just checked and they don't have an online shop. Sorry!
I'll try and take a picture again when I go tomorrow. They had a few different kinds.
Thanks for talking me into it! :o)

Re: The Godzilla of Cowrie Falls
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 7:43 PMThanks to everyone for all the great ideas.
I went back today on my lunch break, armed with my digital camera. I get super ninja props for getting three pictures before anyone noticed (if I do say so myself). They weren't as massive as I thought and not as cool. But I bought one anyway. They are 5 and a half feet long with only one big cluster of cowries. But, still for $15 and all of the good suggestions offered in this thread I think it will be worth it.
I posted a pic on my blog and three more in my photos people.tribe.net/shamsa/photos
If anyone wants me to get them one I'd be happy to.
