So, at my last visit to Ross I happened to pass by the tablecloth section. Has anyone ever noticed how the fancy beaded/fringed table runners would make great panel skirts? Also my bellydance teacher has a veil that she bought in the shower curtain section!

Re: Costume shopping in the home decor section.
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 8:11 AMOh yeah! And I see things like beaded fringe on pillows and think "You know, I could take that off and attach it to so-and-so bra and it would look REALLY good!" You're definitely not the only one! -

Re: Costume shopping in the home decor section.
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 9:43 AMwhen I first started toying with panels I had several people suggest it.
So I now have been keenly looking at the home decore for things of that nature. Panels have morfphed into shorter versions of themselves as well... and thus the placemat have been seen occasionally on a shaking booty more than once. =)

Re: Costume shopping in the home decor section.
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 6:00 PMI've seen this done before. Unfortunately, sometimes it is very obvious that it was a table runner just cut in 2 and tucked into the top waistband! Other times, I've seen it pulled off successfully!
I think I've seen someone use curtains as a panel skirt before too, but I didn't ask because I didn't want to insult the dancer in case it wasn't a curtain!

Re: Costume shopping in the home decor section.
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 6:01 PMActually yes, I've been using table runners for decades. LOL And back in the Dark Ages, when I started dancing, we often made skirts out of round table clothes and veils out of curtains. -

Re: Costume shopping in the home decor section.
Fri, April 11, 2008 - 7:27 PMYeah, I was doing this at Joann's before I knew I was doing it. I work there now, and on our discount tables I think so much in terms of fabric to use for coming I often end up placing the home decor on the apparel table! So much of it looks so wonderful though...

Re: Costume shopping in the home decor section.
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 8:38 PMA lot of these ideas mentioned in this post do seem like very good creative ideas. I had actually considered purchasing a couple of the "Oriental" and "Persian" style decorative scarves and making them into hip-belts, or just simply attaching them to my waist. -
