Ok, so we've seen the most useful tools thread....what about tools we wish were out there? Post your wishlist....who knows, someone out there may have a solution!
My list:
Something to pull the fabric through the back of the machine to keep it straight.
A "fuel gage" on my bobbin so I'll know to stop before the thread runs out instead of sewing merrily along and not noticing.
I know there's more, but my bobbin just ran out........

Ha!! That's fantastic. I want one too. That's happened to me too many times!

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Wed, November 19, 2008 - 2:39 PMooooooooooo....the Bobbin Gage....
if someone does this - you *WILL* be a millionare.
I personally want a RONCO (tm) tool that works like the "Pop it! Crochet machine" ...but that does fringe or coin patches. That way you only have to sew ONE or TWO things onto your bases instead of 30. -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Wed, November 19, 2008 - 3:40 PMYes. I want all of those. I'd also like a light to blink when my tension is too loose or too tight. My machine was my mom's when she was sixteen and I'm 36, so it's kind of old and the tension dial likes to adjust itself. UGH.

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Wed, November 19, 2008 - 3:47 PMI'd like a Murphy-bed style sewing room table. Just flip it up into the wall when guests come over, then it folds down & everything's still in place when I need to work again.
Belilah, I'd totally buy your Bobbin Gage.

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Wed, November 19, 2008 - 4:19 PM...an honest-to-goodness sewing desk that wouldn't cost me 2 paychecks ;-) instead of my rickety little table
...with lots of drawer space for thread, needles, elastic, seam tape, stretch lace seam tape, zippers, buttons, glue gun, extra bobbins, hook-n-eyes, snaps {{deep breath}} Stitch Witchery, pliers, scissors, seam rippers, hem lace, safety pins
**putting head down 'cause I'm out of breath** -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Wed, November 19, 2008 - 10:56 PMA device that magically puts in hooks and eyes, eyelets, and grommets perfectly without me touching them!!! -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 6:41 AMooohhhhh...a murphy sewing table that keeps everything in place. I am so buying one of those! Let me know when they are available. :)
What about a little gadget that picks things up and puts them back into their VERY organized little compartments when your done with them? I mean as long as we're dreaming, right? (And ideally, it could be used for non-sewing/crafting related things, too) -

I don't understand. WHAT non-sewing/crafting-related things? You have those??? -
-
Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 8:57 AMAHAHAHAHA. A few of them, yes. And those things are always in the way when I'm crafting. lol.

Thu, November 20, 2008 - 9:54 AMBelilah,
Put me down for a "Bobbin Gauge"......I just ran out - in the curve of an armhole, no less.
-
Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 11:39 AMSomeone should really contact the sewing machine companies about this. Have a lil 'arm' that lays against the thread on the bobbin and when it gets to a certain point, a light on the machine blinks and lets you know it's about to run out. I guarantee there are thousands of women out there that would be eternally grateful. -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 3:12 PMMy machine has a bobbin gauge. And it tells me 3-6 yds before I run out. which is irksome, because it is then blinking for 10 minutes!
I want a tambouring machine expansion pack. So it can temporarily alter my regular machine, dangit.

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Sat, November 22, 2008 - 12:10 AMIf you have one of the fancier electronic machines, it will indeed tell you when your bobbin is about to run out - mine has a flashing diagram of a bobbin which comes up on a little LCD screen.
Sadly, the traditional types of machines don't have them - I got my fancy machine from my mother's business, as she had replaced it with an even fancier one! -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Sat, November 22, 2008 - 8:34 AMA robot to do my machine sewing for me! I'm such a klutz when it comes to a sewing machine. I've used mine twice in my entire life. I soooooo need lessons!!!

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 3:42 PMWhile we are dreaming, I'd like a little elf that eats thread and those tiny scraps of fabric that stick to everything. And lint. It would be nice if the little elf would give me compliments and sewing advice if needed... -
-
Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 3:43 PMoops I meant to say thread bits. Not whole spools. Sheesh, I'm a dork. -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 5:22 PMOh...when you find an elf, ask him if he has a brother or sister for me. :) -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 7:59 PMThey're called children...;-) -
-
Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 11:19 AMum...correct me if I'm wrong, but don't children do just the opposite? lol. I have heard that child labor is useful, though it seems like a toss up. :P -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 11:25 AMIt depends on their motivation...bribes are quite useful...so is blackmail...:-D -

Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 11:56 AMThreats don't work as well as bribes, though. -
-
Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 1:58 PMYes, but the problem with having kids pick up small things like bits of thread is that they then usually end up in their mouths -- and you spend more time trying to keep them from dying than you would have if you'd have just picked it up yourself in the first place. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: DREAM DIY Tools
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 2:11 PM*giggle*...well, at 20 and 13, they don't usually do that anymore...and if they do, then I've got more problems that just some thread and bits of fabric lying around...:-D -
