or maybe not ;-) ;-)

My dance partner & I are considering a piece of music for the December show - hey, what can I say? The *muse* struck.

Anyway, brain storm with me here...bellydance meets 1920's flapper...

So far, we've come up with lace circle skirts - bustled back - and black bras embellished with some pearls...and, of course, long pearl strand necklaces

Go fringe and beaded fringe in layers. On front of belt, maybe from certain parts of the bustle.

See if you can both get short hair, or at least short hair wigs. With cute little bangs. Have small circlet with a decorative feather bit on one side or the back.

Fishnet tights, with knee high translucent socks, with those little mary-jane sturdy heels

And go watch Chicago. It should help

Have tops that DON'T emphasize cleavage. They were all about the boyish figure.

They liked beaded detail. This outfit may turn out rather tribaret.

      Has fun! Post pictures!

here's what's going through my head right now......keeping in mind I have other dancing to do in the same show and don't want to do a full out costume change if possible......

black wide leg pants (kinda' like palazzo pants)......about 2" up from bottom, baste in a casing for elastic to create ruffle, maybe tack on a bit of black lace at the hemline......then ruch up the outside / inside seams to pull the pants up......when I'm through with the dance number, let down the ruching and take out the elastic <<I'd put a ribbon or something in the hem to tie them into *harem* pants style>>

          ??maybe??

OMg make sure you do a nice 1920's bob if it is possible. And really red lips and blue eyes! It'll be fab! Take tons of pictures! I hope it rocks everyone socks off!

From looking at some websites last night and this morning (thanks, Erika)...
    1. I'm not cutting my hair ;-) so I'll have to do some sort of slicked back thing......which depends on the other routines of the performance night.
    2. Makeup...not a problem! ;-) love red lipstick
    3. Neither one of us is flat chested and have no plans to *go flat* as was the style back then...nor do either of us have *boyish* figures, so...

Maybe this won't be so *bellydancer meets flapper* after all.

    That's so awesome!:)

-Maybe black fringe bra/belt trimmed at the top and straps w/pearls? But not beaded fringe, the fabric/polyester kind.
-Maybe a black sequined headband that comes right across the forehead--don't forget the feather attached! :)
    - gloves instead of gaunlets?
-R u going to use any props? A long cigarette filter perhaps?

If you could get someone to do it, you should put finger waves in your hair!

    Can't wait to see it!

I've got brain fever from looking at all these images! My partner & I haven't ironed all this out, of course. It's in the **brain storm** stage at this point. But ya'll have definitely given me good ideas.

The **look** ((from inside my head))...I'll be sketching it out soon
    a. black bra embellished with pearls/pearl-like beads - tummy, side and back drapes - maybe even pearl epatulets ((drapes)) over the upper arm area
    b. black fishnet foot-less tights under lace skirt bustled back - maybe an underskirt for color
    c. belt made so it can be worn with bustled back skirt - the front is embellished with pearls & pearl drapes and/or fringe, the back plain & with ties so it can be tied under bustle
    d. jewelry is easy to make, pearl strands will be a cinch - bracelets & earrings
    e. hair - ok, so I haven't gotten very far here

they rocked the short hair, if ur's is long u might think about pin curlling and wearing a wig., or if you have long hair with short layers, just pin the long bits up, and decorate over them.

ps: "here's and interesting idea...." i love how the feathers from their turbans look like antena (sp?) makes me think disney (went back in time and.... ) turned A Bug's Life into a musical ^_^

      Etana,
I just recently found a song from the 20s, originally performed by Fannie Brice and it's screaming at me to choreograph it. So......your thread has given me some wonderful ideas and I thank you for posting it! It may take me awhile to get the costuming together, but I will be doing the choreography soon! Thanks again!

        Bibia
You're welcome. Glad to be of service ;D

Well, costuming has *morphed* somewhat...now we have bellydancer meets flapper meets ?Victorian Goth?. This could get real interesting!! Our recent conversation included (but not limited to) long strands of pearl necklace / possible pearl tummy drapes - striped pantaloons - lace bustled skirts - pearl beaded bras - headdress w/feathers - no belt 'cause of the bustled skirt ((end of lace skirt to have ruffles))

I can't wait to get started!!

I'm only reviving this 'cause I'm stuck ;-) on what to wear on the bottom

Here's the look starting from the top -
hair = covered with a lacy *snood* and a headband with feathers

top = black bra with pastel pearl drapes ((believe there's a pic of the partially covered bra somewhere in this tribe's photos)) - possibly gauntlets made from same fabric as bra fabric covering

bottom = white lace skirt bustled back so that front is fairly short -

what do I do about my legs?!?!?!? I don't have pretty & shapely legs, so I think fishnets are out. Darker tights would disquise the fish-belly-white-with-road-map-veins skin, but then there's that not-so-shapely thing. And did I mention the front of the skirt will be short??

I don't like the bloomer look - but may have to go that route. I have plenty left over of the fabric used to cover the bra. So - black bra, black (or white?) gloves, white skirt, black bloomers

          What cha' think??

Oooh...be sure to leave some lil curls of hair out around your face...either pin curls or finger waves...if I was anywhere near you, I'd be glad to do them for you...but they're not too hard to do...

*sigh*...it's times like this that I actually miss being a hair dresser...:-(

Rebekah - you read my mind!

I'll have *schtuff* in my hair for the other dance numbers - and the snood will cover all that. I'll be leaving tendrils out at the temple.

My instructor had the most amazing layered fringe skirt. It was like a panel skirt with v's of red and orange fringe sewn to it. She lit up the room with her smile and her costume all ablaze! That skirt had the most amazing movement! I wish I had a photo! Anyone here remember Amira in Wichita? Anyone have a photo of her in that skirt????? She was so amazing.

sorry to use amazing so much, but it was.
