Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 1:17 PMcgi.ebay.com/100-BRASS-C...aultDomain_0 I know they are brass but have a gold tone color.
cgi.ebay.com/100-Gold-co...aultDomain_0 you can find these coins (multi size packs) at your fabric and hobby stores and even already attached/by the yard.
I'm assuming when you say your looking for chain fringe, you mean actual gold toned metal chain and not chainette fringe. That might be a bit harder, I make my own metal fringe from different size chain that i can get by the yard or old necklaces I can disassemble.
hope those help in atleast pointing you in the right direction. :)

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 1:23 PMcool thanks... yeah i'm kind of like... not that particular about my metals matching. i feel like it gives my look a more rootsy edge. i even do silver and gold on stuff. i totally love how it looks. maybe not for the glitzier caberet costuming but for my own gypsy look, i like it. as for chain fringe i basically mean stuff like this: www.silkroadtribal.com/Kuchi-...58.html
i haven't been able to find anything like that in gold or brass :/ -

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 1:27 PMThat type of fringe is called Kuchi Chain/Fringe. I just bought a very small length of brass-colored kuchi fringe from Deb at Red Camel: theredcamel.tripod.com/ Email her & ask if she has any more -- also, she's in St. Louis, so you might be able to go pick it up & save on postage. -

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 1:40 PMoh yay! i love the red camel but i didn't see any brass/gold tinted kuchi chain/fringe on there... or much in the way of any brass or gold anything at all. :S -

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 2:01 PMShe doesn't list everything on her site that she has in stock, as she also vends at regional workshops. It's always worth a quick email when you're looking for something -- she's really good about relying to emails quickly.

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Sat, October 17, 2009 - 5:43 PMThis may sound odd but have you tried a hardware store? I vaguely remember seeing chain by the linear foot for sell a few years ago at the Home depot in various sizes. -

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Sun, October 18, 2009 - 11:49 AMDon't know if this would work for you but I saw a dancer with a very cool belt made of chain fringe. She just took different lengths of chain (she wanted a random icicle look) and sandwiched them between two layers of duct tape! Then she wore it under other belts or layers of stuff. It looked really good. You could make your own with stuff from the hardware store, wouldn't be exactly like the kuchi, but one of a kind, for sure! -

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Sun, October 18, 2009 - 6:25 PMIf you really want chain but don't want to buy it, you can make your own with some wire, a knitting needle or other rod, wire cutters and a pair of pliers. Just make a bunch of rings by wrapping the wire around the rod many times and cut apart with the cutters. Then, just connect the rings together with pliers. You can get copper, steel, or aluminum wire really cheap. I found some anodized aluminum (colorful red, blue, and gold) at the DollarTree for a buck a pack. I buy old chain from flea markets, garage sales and thrift stores.
I did find a couple bags of gold coins at JoAnn Fabric Store some time ago. Wal-Mart used to have some already attached to tape, but they cost a lot more for a lot less. Occasionally I find clearance jewelry at department/discount stores that has coins or round discs on it.

Re: gold coins and/or chain fringe?
Sun, October 18, 2009 - 6:28 PMOh, another idea would be to hit you local coin dealer and ask how much for the junk foreign coins. They usually sell buy the pound or like 10 for a dollar. You'll have to drill/punch a hole in them or solder on a ring.
