I'm in the market to buy my frist sword. Would love some input s to what some of teh recommended preferences are.
What you find to be teh ideal weight and length. If you know of a good place to purchase one, would love the feedback.

There are a number of threads on this, in the Tribal Bellydance tribe and possibly Tribal Costuming.

One name that comes up a lot is the Baladay Scimitar from Kultofathena.com (kultofathena.com/product~i...mitar.htm) as an inexpensive starter sword. Advanced dancers tend to like the Cas Iberia from the same vendor.

I would check out this tribe. I got some great reccomendations a few years ago when I was looking for my own sword.

I did get the Balady Sword from Kult of Athena and am very happy with it. It was reasonably priced and balances very nicely especially for a starter sword, which is what I needed.

Just to give you some feedback on it.

I did check out the Balady Sword, i think I am leaning toward it for a starter sword too. I've had many people recommend it for a beginning sword. Not to mention, the price is RIGHT!!

Love looking at all ya'll pictures! BEAUTIFUL LADIES!!!!

          Peace and Namaste,

I have a friend who picked up the Iberia and it is wicked heavy. I like my swords on the heavy side but that one was skull crushing. She wound up ordering the balady as well.

I got a pair of the baladi scimitars for my birthday recently. Just for reference, they're a fair bit smaller than the Cas Iberia, which they otherwise resemble. But they are nice, heavy, solid, and balance well.

Other than those, the old dress sabers that go with some old uniforms sometimes balance well (depending on the shape of the hilt), and can occasionally be found for REALLY cheap (I got my first for a dollar at a garage sale once). Not quite as heavy (or as cool-looking) as the baladi.
