Benzodiazapines are fast acting anti-anxiety and relaxant chemicals that are used to treat acute panic attacks as well as seizure disorders. While many herbs are good for treating generalized anxiety, has anyone ever successfully used an herbal remedy for an acute episode? Anyone have a history of using benzos who later found an herbal alternative that worked comparably well?

Re: Benzo alternatives?
Sat, November 7, 2009 - 9:30 PMi think panic attacks can be triggered by food allergies or chemical sensitivities. . .there are some homeopathic remedies that may help. . .particularly Stage Fright from NOVA. I have heard some great stories about the results for that remedy. .

Which particular issue are you asking about- acute episodes of anxiety, or seizures? Any idea which kinds of seizures?

Re: Benzo alternatives?
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 6:21 PMPartial seizures is only a theory. These are severe panic attacks They could be cause from cortisol deficiency, low blood sugar, or be MS/nervous related. This isnt a case of simple stage fright. This is thinking you are going to die, heart pounding, dizzy and cant open a pill bottle, panic like you are having a stroke kind of event that is not triggered by any rational external triggers but seems to health related.
I have found a few good herbal preventatives, but nothing that stops the event as quickly or reliably as a benzo. I would like to look into herbal alternatives.
