Hip'n'Bass is back in action with a fun and unique show on Wednesday June 25 at a new location. We're doin it up house-party style at Bollyhood Cafe in the mission.
Performances by Clandestine, Dhol Rhythms, Jennifer Faust, Mitara and a new hip-hop duet by Christine and Monica, DJ sets by Jimmy Love, Giamma and Amar, and Freyja on visuals.

Its gonna be a fun night with surprises, starting at 9 with performances kicking off at 10. We'll have a few seats for the performances so get there early to grab a chair. Dancefloor opens back up after performaces.

Cover is only $5 for this fab lineup. If you haven't been to bollyhood, nows a good time to come check it out.

THE DICKENS FAIR AND THE COW PALACE

State Senator Leland Yee Ph.D., under pressure
from the Daly City Council, is proposing to
“surplus” the Cow Palace and sell it to Daly
City. Daly City will then sell most of the land
to condo developers and pocket the
profits. Letter writing WILL stop this. Senator
Yee has ONLY heard from Daly City. Let him know
you oppose selling the Cow Palace!!!

(no voting date is set - but it could be
soon). This bill wrongly proposes to SELL the Cow Palace to Daly City!

We must defeat SB1527 or the Dickens Fair will likely die.
It would take years, if it’s even possible, to
relocate and resurrect the Dickens Fair.
Red Barn Productions has studied all the venues
that could physically host the Dickens Fair and
there are NO other places that currently
work. All are either too expensive, too small,
are unavailable between Thanksgiving and
Christmas OR require unaffordable retrofits in
order to be permitted for public assembly. So,
Save the Cow Palace and Save The Dickens Fair. It's that simple AND
serious.

Here's the scoop:

The Cow Palace has a perfectly good plan to meet
the needs of the local community and Daly City by
providing them 13 acres of its’ unused
land. Yes, rock concerts bring public problems,
according to Daly City, but they also bring
public $$$ to the local community. Senator Yee's
Legislation SB1527 is doubly wrong. It proposes
we, as California State Citizens, sell OUR Cow
Palace to Daly City so they can bulldoze it and
profit by selling it to private developers. If
that isn't bad enough, SB1527 also deprives us of
our RIGHT to use a facility that WE own!!

This is like selling off a chunk of Golden Gate
Park because a nearby neighborhood proclaims
“unanimously” it needs more space for
development. It doesn't work that way. We get
to vote too...by writing letters and emails and
calling his office. Officials can't just decide
to take a public asset and sell it…unless it is
truly “surplus”. The Cow Palace is not
“surplus”. We must stop this proposed sell-off of our property.

Here's what you can do to stop SB1527 and SAVE THE COW PALACE:

#1 Act Quickly. Senator Yee may believe he is
serving the public, but he has only heard from
Daly City. Let’s give him the other 99% of the
picture before he gets any further down this road.

Write a Letter
Write to Senator Yee today. Quickly. Early
letters are more powerful. Send personal letters
to the address below the sample text at the
bottom of this notice. Get it in today’s mail, so
he receives it on Monday or Tuesday.

facility. It may need work, but how many
California public buildings need upgrading? If
you want to help Daly City bring in new
supermarkets and shopping to the area, let the
Cow Palace deal directly with developers and Daly
City to make use of the 13 acres the Cow Palace
doesn't need. This will preserve my rights while
helping the lives of local area citizens. It
will also continue the flow of millions of
dollars into the local economy annually. These
revenues, generated by me and many thousands of
others who use the Cow Palace, also help pay for
police to patrol the area year-round as well as during big events.

Please reconsider SB1527. There is a better way
to help Daly City and Bayshore than destroying
the Cow Palace. I use it every year and plan to
continue to use it for many years to come. It is
not “surplus”; it is a vital community and cultural asset.

Hip'n'Bass at Underground SF - Come out and play

Hey everyone, come out to our new show, Hip'n'Bass on thursday night and the last thursday of every month. July 26 is our kick off. We'll have Freyja & Cera plus a possible other dancer or two joining us, and i'll be spinning along with a special guest from New York: Sharmaji <aka Dave Sharma - Basement Bhangra>.

Licorice (Licky to his friends) is a beautiful 7-year old kitty; he is kind, gentle, and playful, and loves his "mom" Andra so much he'll let her dress him up as a bee (or the pope)…as long as there are treats afterwards, of course! You may know Andra from her tenures in FatChanceBellyDance, Ultra Gypsy, or most recently Azure Tribal Belly Dance.
Licky recently became very ill; after 2 MRIs, blood tests, a vet switch, exploratory surgery, and an extended stay in ICU, he is home now and feeling much better. Unfortunately, all of that added up to a monstrous vet bill: about $10,000! Andra is a preschool teacher and is also getting married in a few months, so Andra's closest friends have banded together to help out with the bill.
What better way to do so than to throw a dance benefit? We have an amazing dance lineup featuring some of the Bay Area's finest in belly dance, bhangra, and hula, plus 2 kickass DJs, and a raffle with fabulous prizes. Andra is performing twice: with the hula group, and with Azure. She and Licky thank you from the bottom of their hearts!

I just want to send a big shout out and thank you for all the wondeful folks in my life, many who I know closely and many who i've connected with on tribe and will meet in person one day. I feel so blessed with all the love and support I get, and just want to express my appreciation and thanks to you who have touched my life in a special way.

The past couple of years have been truly amazing in my creative endeavors and friendships. I have had some of my biggest struggles yet feel more sense of accomplishment than ever before in my life, and things keep getting more challenging and better.

A true sense of community and family vibe is what I feel, and it feels good - really good.

I know I posted this on Freyja's tribe and the Electric Vardo tribe but I want everybody everywhere to know ...

Yes, i'm excited to announce that Freyja will be joining me as an Electric Vardo promoter.
She and I will be producing the next Electric Vardo together on March 30th.

Full details will be released in the next couple of days. We're excited about the lineup and i'm extra excited that Freyja will be on board as my partner in the show that will mark 2 years for Electric Vardo.

I am so thankful for all of the people who have come together to suport and make Electric Vardo what it is. Couple'a great shows this weekend that i'm excited about - representing my beginnings to now: Worldly & Groove Garden

Yes, so the event that sparked my ass into doing what i'm doing now is the groove Garden, which I attended like 5 years ago (I think). DJ Dragonfly and his spinning just floored and inspired me. A week later I met Cheb i Sabbah at DJ Dragonfly's Mantra Lounge in Oakland.
A few months later I met Janaka through Chebiji and things just really kept rolling forward for me in the music biz.

I never imagined I would be co-producing shows with such a solid mix of talent, representing people who's art I admire.

So Worldy this Friday represents where I am and the directions forward I am going.
The groove garden represents my beginnings of becoming a DJ and event promoter.

Friday night is going to be an exciting mix of Asian Massive Big Wigs and some of my favorite local tribal dancers who have created niches for themselves with their unique styles and true amazingness in their talent, skill & dedication.

The Worldly shows so far have drawn over 1000 people an the massive club 1015 folsom. Janaka has really led a beautiful transformation of the space with a great creative vision and solid crew of designers, and together the entire crew of collaborators have brought together a vibe unknown to 1015, bringing a deep cultural element to clubland.

I was DJing at the first Worldly and every one since then, and the last couple I was coordinatingthe dancer lineups, and this time around it's full scale ahead in promoting this show and planning forward for the launch of Outer Worldly.

This weekend will be very special to me, starting with Worldly on Friday, and the groove garden on Saturday, which DJ Dragonfly gave me the "job" (if you can call it a job) of coordinating the chillspace and the dancer lineup. I feel really special to be a bigger part of the groove garden, especially on the 7 year anniversary.

Satisfaction, Ice cream and new year's eve

So winding down from posting madness listing Worldly in bunches of club sites online, after tweaking the Chai G sticker artwork for the packaging of Chai G for a couple of hours, cleaning and organizing stuff, ironing out details and confirming lineups for New year's eve, i'm sitting here drinking some port and having some ice cream from my favorite little ice cream store, the scoop. Yum. Port & ice cream. I say it again, Yum.

So in 2 days I went from wondering what I was doing for new year's eve after one possible gig (that I really didn't want to do but the $ offer was good) to collaborating with some of my favorite people doing a benefit show together. The satisfaction of itall coming together feels so nice. The mood and energy with everybody involved is great. I have the greatest feeling about this from the get-go.

I want to send a thank you again to all who have supported me, inspired me and taught me so much - And given me great opportunities on faith.

Thanks also to ice cream.

So a beautiful show s coming together. I love doing New Year's eve when it's more thn just a party. Last year we did a benefit for the Kashmir earthquake at New Delhi Restaurant. This year i'll be involved in another benefit supporting causes in Africa.
It's a party with a purpose, and a bunch of great people who I admire and love.
I have a eeling this is going to be like a Big house party with a few hundred great friends.
The positive vibe is in the air with everyone involved.

So I got the opportunity to collaborate with a great friend and one of SF's greatest singers and huge supporters of humankind.
I get to do a night with Sila and the Afrofunk Experience.
But it doesn't stop there. I've gotten together a Great group of DJs, dancers and Musicians to take over one of 2 rooms at the venue, including the amazing Lady Ra from Vancouver, BC. If any of you got to see her when she came down in March for the Beats without Borders SF tour, you know what i'm talkin about. She's more than just a DJ, she is Great energy. We also have SF's Asian Massive Drum&Dub-step Maestro Maneesh the twister from Dhamaal & Dub Mission. The magical fingers of SooozhyQ on doumbek and out of this world tribal bellydance performances with Ariellah, Freyja, and possibly another awesome group once I get confirmation from them, and a Kathak dance performance.
With Sila will be DJ Jeremiah and special guests. Once everything's confirmed i'll get you the whole lineup, venue deets and all. It's gonna be a great night, and i'm hoping as many of my friends that can will come. We'll be partying till the wee hours in a comfortable good vibing place.

Aww, my ice cream's finished. Still got a little port left.

I guess it's bedtime for bonzo.

Belly Vision!!!

Hello Ya'll

I wanted to let you all know I started a new tribe called Belly vision http://tribes.tribe.net/bellyvision which is intended to be a resource for bellydancers to check out what I have been capturing on video since I started this hobby! There will be links to You Tube and Google video and of course you will be able to see your beautiful selves @ times as well as some of your other favorite dancers....

Coming up within the next week or so I will have posted scenes from SHADOW DANCE captured in Oakland Ca. on Nov. 10th. Also you will be able to see the teaser for Unmata's Bllod Moon Regale video recorded October 28th in Sacramento Ca. This will be the prelude to a DVD viewing party that is in the works....

I had the most beautiful time at this show. The energy, collaborative spirit and love was thick in the air. Not only was I surrounded by some of the most amazing dancers and musicians I know - and met that night, but to help support a friend in the community just made it so much more amazing and beautiful. The fact that we were able to pack the venue on a thursday night shows me the level of love and support in the community.
It's wonderful to see that.

Dancers beware: Stalker on tribe

Some of you may have seen this already, but just in case not ... our good friend Tim has posted this on tribe and myspace and I feel the need to make sure Everybody is aware, so Please pass this on where you can.

In addition, I read in some of the posts that he has been trying to teach ME drumming after 6 weeks of learning himself.
Seriously, be Careful and have NOTHING to do with this guy.

This is addressed mainly to my wonderful dancer friends here, but is useful for everyone.

Some of you may know that an individual has been haunting Tribe and the Bay Area belly dance scene for the last few months. He has approached and propositioned dozens of dancers both locally, and nationwide (online), upsetting many (including friends of mine), and even scaring a few with his stalker-like behavior.

He finds women's phone numbers, home addresses, emails, etc., and starts contacting them, often repeatedly.

There has been considerable discussion about him on Tribe, with many women coming forward with horror stories about his unwanted attention

Various dancers are looking into taking appropriate action, and the hope is that he will be gone from Myspace and Tribe soon. In the mean time, have nothing to do with him.

This kind of thing really makes my blood boil, and I felt it was necessary to put out a warning, since I have a large number of dancer friends. Please pass this on to everyone, even non-dancers!
