Greetings tribe. You are all invited to attend the 2008 Colorado World Music Gathering. The date is set for June 7, 2008, and will be held near Dacono, Colorado. This year’s event will be a one day outing; arrival time is 10am, with a start time of noon. The event will go until midnight, however, later celebrations can be individually structured at a location of your choice or at a nearby campground just north at a reservoir. Locate and reserve early.

All are welcomed, from the curious to the beginner to the professional. At this year’s gathering we are including the didgeridoo, ethnic flute and drum, tribal & fire dance communities.

All pertinent info is now posted on the Yahoo Group WorldMusicGathering. Rules, regulations and other considerations will be available via the Yahoo Group.

Join today and commune with other attendees regarding directions, carpooling, nearby camping, and other logistics. Perspective Workshop leaders and Vendors are welcome to post letting people know what they plan to make available to attendees.

Volunteers are welcome. Please contact Hopinjohn46 .

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/worldmusicgathering/

Please use this group page as your primary vehicle for event communications. One point of reference will reduce confusion, increase my response time and prevent info from getting lost.

Greetings tribe members. The Colorado Didgeridoo and World Music Gathering, aka “The Gathering” is on the drawing board. However, in order to pull it off, it is necessary to raise some seed money. For those of you who are in the Denver/Boulder metro area, would you be willing to attend at least one music fund raising concert? If so, Please reply to my tribe named DIDGE (Denver InDigenous Gathering Exchange).

This is great... these are my two favorite instruments to play. I'm just so pleased there is a tribe out there for the both of them. : )

does anybody know of any good recordings out there documenting the beautiful and powerful sound of these two sounds intertwining?

Also, is there anybody else, besides me, who has mastered or at least experimented with playing these instruments simultaneously?

keep playing...

Boyfriend and I hate the club/party scene on NYE. We both play d'jembe and we are in search of a drumming circle that would welcome us this New Year's Eve. We are courteous, respectful and easy to be around. Does anyone know of or are you sponsoring a circle that will be drumming in the New Year? SF or East Bay. Please send me a message if you can help.

What is a Community Drum Circle?

What is a Community Drum Circle?

by Arthur Hull

According to Mickey Hart: “The Drum Circle is a huge jam session. The ultimate goal is not precise rhythmic articulation or perfection of patterned structure, but the ability to entrain and reach the state of a group mind. It is built on cooperation in the groove, but with little reference to any classic styles. So this is a work in constant progress, a phenomenon of the new rhythm culture emerging here in the West.”

In the words of Arthur Hull: “The Community Drum Circle is a fun entry-level learning experience that is accessible to anyone who wants to participate. Drum Circle participants express themselves collectively by using a chorus of tuned drums, percussion, and vocals to create a musical song together while having a great time.”

The Community Drum Circle is the use of a rhythm-based event as a tool for unity. It is NOT a drum class. It's NOT using culturally-specific rhythms. A community drum circle is a fun, family friendly event, where people empower each other in the act of celebrating community and life through rhythm and music. People of all levels of musical expertise come together and share their rhythmical spirit with what ever drums and percussion they bring to the event. They don't have to be a drummer to participate. Everyone has something to offer the circle, and any one is welcome.

The spirit and magic of rhythm expressed on drums and percussion instruments cuts through all ages, sexes, religions, races and cultures. Rhythm is a universal language known to every one, even the youngest child, if we can just "remember." So in a very objective, yet beautiful way, an interactive rhythm event puts us all on an equal footing with each other and brings us closer together. The facilitator serves this process by guiding the participants to their highest musical potential.

A community drum circle is created, "in the moment" by all the people who participate. Co-operation and collaboration is the basic glue. When we drum together, sharing our spirit in the form of rhythm, it changes our relationships. As we play together, we give ourselves a rhythmical massage and an emotional release. The experience is unique to each person in the circle, and it happens whether we are entraining ourselves into the circle by drumming, or standing outside the circle and listening while tapping our feet and clapping along with the music.

To make beautiful music together, all we have to do is bring to the circle whatever rhythmical expertise we have to offer, along with the excitement of sharing it with other people. The quality of the music produced in an event like this is not based on the rhythmical expertise of the players, but on the quality of their relationship with the other people in the circle. The result is those magical musical moments where one powerful voice is created out of the many. In those moments, the players stop worrying about keeping time because time, as they know it, has stopped. In it's place is a living breathing entity, expressing timeless joy, passion and release through the power of rhythm. That is the beauty of a community drum circle.

a Letter from Mother Earth

This is the pain of our children...
To return from the stars without a home or community...
A tribe lost returns - scattered in the wind.
Those who hear must unite and reap the seed of this return.
ONE tribe...ONE Earth...ONE Heart...ONE People.
Those with ears must build a fire and give thanks this night.
Be united with ONE soul.
Oh, my Children come home...
Teachers step forward without fear... You are real.

When the Earth is sick,
the animals will begin to disappear,
when that happens,
The Warriors of the Rainbow
will come to save them
