She's cute, we're just starting to talk, and she wants to puppy play.
Any experienced puppy owners have any tips for a newbie?

Sun, March 25, 2007 - 4:51 PMI'm not really experienced with puppy play, though I interviewed for such a position once. I think the important thing is to make her feel like a puppy, give her all the same rules that you would a real puppy:
• Stay off the furniture, unless invited up to cuddle
• Reward tricks with a treat (eg. snack mix, pieces of breakfast cereal)
• Have her eat and drink from bowls on the floor (make sure they're shallow enough, since she doesn't have a long snout)
• Practice voice commands and walking on a leash
• Pet her alot (especially on her head, where her hair will feel like fur)
• Don't allow speaking, other than safewords (eg. make her use body language to communicate her desires)
• Play fetch with a rubber dog toy or dildo - but make sure that your floors are spotless first, so she doesn't get hair or dirt in her mouth!
• Give her baths while she stands on all fours in the shower/tub and dry her off lovingly
• Don't forget that dogs are pets, not slaves. Give her the freedom to roam about the room while you watch TV once in a while.
At least these are things that I imagine would make play interesting.
