god is an atheist, cont.

not quite done with the book, but there's quite a few delightful paragraphs to chew on, so i thought i'd throw one or two out here.

"God speaks in the softest of tones and the harshest of manners. As the all and everything of the universe, He speaks in every form. That's the rub. If He would just show up Hollywood style, speak in a Charleton Heston voice, we would find it easy to listen. But He shows up as the constant flow of life itself, in every piece, every quality, in the whole range of from ecstasy to calamity. We generally listen to the part we like, and don't want to hear the part we don't like. We start to form God's voice as the part, rather than the whole, and that's where we form belief, collect others who agree, and look slightly askance at those who don't. God is still talking as everything, it is just that we are only listening to the something. nobody is going to remember our stories about something, what endures is the everything.

This is why the age of belief is over, it can't sustain itself, because belief is always the belief in just a piece of everything."

etc...

    okay, how about this:

"Universes don't make natural laws, people make natural laws."

my thought was, universes DO make people.....who make natural laws.

    maybe this is more provocative:

    "Silence plus energy equals reality."

    - is this the new Secretâ„¢?

haven't finished it (got waylaid by car shopping) but so far, i like the book very much - anything that makes me look at things another way is always a kick.

i'd describe it as stream-of-consciousness philomedy.

i just finished "god is an atheist", and would have to say it's probably the most perfect book ever written.

        of course, that's hyperbole.

        but don't believe me......

forgive me for once again mentioning this book, but my SO is reading it and i have to say, continual giggling outbursts while i am trying to finish a serious novel are quite annoying.

charles, i'm fairly certain you would love this book. anybody who would enjoy a good laugh at the expense of the Spiritual Search would love this book.

          just sayin'....
