As we speak, I'm currently using the wireless Internet of a local cafe about a half-an-hour's bike ride from my house. And in stark contrast to most of my previous Intenet experiences, their Internet is ACTUALLY FAST!!! It's the official Christmas miracle of the new millennium!! Though it's not the fastest Internet I've experienced, it is fast enough. Maybe now I can get my Internet business done without having to get kicked out before I can get anything done. Hey now!

Friendship is stupider than ever!

Is a friend really a friend if they punish your for not having the kind of personality they want you to have? I, of course, say that such an action is indicative of an enemy. And if you did the same thing to them, that would make you an asshole -- further proof that we live in a double standard dystopia. Also, another stupid question: Are the rules of friendship written in law, or are they just traditions that have generally been around for centuries? If the later is the case --and I think it is -- then that means I have the right to define friendship by my own terms. And the same sort of thing applies to everybody else. Therefore, whether I'm a good friend or not is completely dependent on context. Unfortunately, my conclusions here very likely will be ignored, and my view of frinedship -- according to many people -- will be defined as sign of my defective personality. And that's why I say Friendship is stupider than ever!

Certain people like to tell me that it's impossible for me to have total creative freedom and make profit at the same time. Well, certain recent events have convinced me that they are wrong (or at least mostly inaccurate). I just slapped together a web comic that will provide me with a much bigger audience than ever, and potentially lead me to profitable cartooning ventures. Here's the web comic in question:

I also can't help but to ask why are there so many creative people who oppose creativity? But since that question is off topic here, so I won't go into it any further. But I will say that at least my population of 6 billion theory is accurate. Plus, most of the world's population doesn't have Internet access." stuff. I've known that for years, and I probably knew it before you did!)

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when
we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and

NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank koolade made with
sugar, but we weren't overweight because .

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING !

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.

And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms..........
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,

made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it
would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang
the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.

They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned

HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them . . . CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives

for our own good.

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

i don't know if these are true........but they sound plausible.

In George Washington's days, there were no cameras. One's image was
either
sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him
standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed
both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on
how
many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be
painted.
Arms and legs are "limbs," therefore painting them would cost the buyer
more.

Hence the_expression, "Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg."

As incredible as it sounds, men and women took baths only twice a year
(May
and October)! Women kept their hair covered, while men shaved their
heads
(because of lice and bugs) and wore wigs. Wealthy men could afford good
wigs made from wool. Theycouldn't wash the wigs, so to clean them they
would carve out a loaf of bread, put the wig in the shell, and bake it
for
30 minutes The heat would make the wig big and fluffy, hence the term
"big
wig" Today we often use the term "here comes the Big Wig" because
someone
appears to be or is powerful and wealthy.

In the late 1700s, many houses consisted of a large room with only one
chair.

Commonly, a long wide board folded down from the wall, and was used for
dining.

The "head of the household" always sat in the chair while everyone else
ate
sitting on the floor. Occasionally a guest, who was usually a man,

invited to sit in this chair during a meal. To sit in the chair meant
you
were important and in charge. They called the one sitting in the chair
the
"chair man." Today in business, we use the_expression or title
"Chairman"
or "Chairman of the Board."

Personal hygiene left much room for improvement. As a result, many

and men had developed acne scars by adulthood. The women would spread
bee's
wax over their facial skin to smooth out their complexions. When they

speaking to each other, if a woman began to stare at another woman's

wax
would crack, hence the term "crack a smile." In addition, when they sat
too
close to the fire, the wax would melt . . . therefore, the _expression
"losing face."

Ladies wore corsets, which would lace up in the front. A proper and
dignified woman - as in "straight laced". . . wore a tightly tied lace.

Common entertainment included playing cards. However, there was a tax
levied when purchasing playing cards but only applicable to the "Ace of
Spades."To avoid paying the tax, people would purchase 51 cards
instead.

Yet, since most games require 52 cards, these people were thought to be
stupid or dumb because they weren't "playing with a full deck."

Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what
the
people considered important. Since there were no telephones, TV's or
radios, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns, pubs,
and
bars.They were told to "go sip some ale" and listen to people's
conversations and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched

different times. "You go sip here" and "You go sip there." The two
words
"go sip" were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion
and,
thus we have the term"gossip."

At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint and
quart-sized
containers. A bar maid's job was to keep an eye on the customers and
keep
the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was
drinking in "pints" and who was drinking in "quarts," hence the
term"minding your "P's and Q's."

One more: bet you didn't know this!

In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters
carried
iron cannons. Those cannons fired round iron cannon balls. It was
necessary
to keep a good supply near the cannon. However, how to prevent them
from
rolling about the deck? The best storage method devised was a
square-based
pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine, which
rested
on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a
small
area right next to the cannon. There was only one problem...how to
prevent
the bottom layer from sliding or rolling from under the others. The
solution was a metal plate called a "Monkey" with 16 round
indentations.

However, if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly
rust
to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make "Brass Monkeys."
Few
landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than
iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far,
the
brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannonballs would
come right off the monkey. Thus, it was quite literally, "Cold enough
to
freeze the balls off a brass monkey." (All this time, you thought that
was
an improper_expression, didn't you.)

Another Trek dream

Earlier this year I dreamed that I saw a "lost" episode of Star Trek: Enterprise. In this episode, Archer, T'Pol and Trip were sent back in time to present-day Detroit. Apparently this episode was actually made in Detroit. My mother (who doesn't watch the show in real life) made a big deal about seeing local sites in the episode. I don't remember the plot of the episode but do remember that it took place in the daytime, and Archer, T'Pol and Trip were still in 22nd attiare.

You know, I learned something today. I learned that Detroit is a HORRIBLE place for creative people to live. And I learned that by going to Craig's List. In the Detroit section of the list, I noticed that there are extremely few freelance art jobs in Detroit. But when I went to the New York, Chicago and Los Angeles sections, I noticed those cities have freelance art jobs by the megaton. Therefore if I want to improve my chances of succeeding at art, I need to get my black ass out of Detroit. It's like living amongst the Borg Collective here anyway.

The no girlfriend problem (again)

I don't feel attractive even though I've been told by numerous folks that I am attractive. If I had a girlfriend, I'd definitely change my view on that. But it seems to me that I can't get a girlfriend if I remain shy and socially akward. So to that I ask, what's wrong with being shy and socially akward? Why can't I remain be shy and socially akward and get a girlfriend?! Being shy and socially akward is part of who I am. So why can't I find any women who can appreciate those sorts of attributes?

A possible reason why some say success equals failure if you don't conform

In this so-called "society", many people believe that the primary purpose of the individual is to conform to some standard "normal" way of being. Because of that, many people believe that not conforming to the standard "normal" way of being constitutes failure. For example, consider my recent web comic success. I mentioned this success on a comics-themed message board a few weeks ago. Most of the responses I got there were statements that claimed I'm still a failure or will fail or haven't provided any evidence of success. This may be my opionion, but I suspect that these people are saying I'm a failure as a web comic artist because the theme of my web comic does not conform to the standard "normal" way of being. And what theme is that? The theme is LONG TOENAILS ON WOMEN! (Yeah! Really, man!)

Yes, the notion of long-toenailed women is not popular in most comic strip areas. But it is very popular in the area of long nail fetish web sites. Thus, my new web comic is featured on a LONG NAIL FETISH WEB SITE. THAT'S why I say my web comic is a success! Especailly since it probably gets more views than all my other web site endeavors combined.

I'm of the mind that creativity is mainly about changing the world. It has little if anything to do with the standard "normal" way of being. Any and all changes to the world go against the standard "normal" way of being. Consider this outragous statement that may have been made some 50 years ago:

"Rosa Parks, your protesting of the segragation laws contradicts the standard 'normal' way of being. Therefore, you're a was a failure."

Needeless to say, the same people who say I'm a failure because I won't do my comics in the standard "normal" way of being won't say that Rosa Parks was a failure for also going against the standard "normal" way of being.

"But that was years ago. Segreation is no longer part of the standard 'normal' way of being."

That proves my point exactly. The world won't stay the way it is forever. It's possible (no guarantee, of course) that long nail fetish comics may become more popular in the future.

"But now you're saying that the standard 'normal' way of being will be a good thing if your ideas become popular."

No. I'm just saying that change is one of the few constants of life. And the standard "normal" way of being is only wrong in my view if it's being forced on people when they have a right not to take part in it. I mean, there is no law that says that all web comics should conform to the standard "normal" way of being. People have the right to do comics -- web or otherwise -- any way they want, be it the standard "normal" way of being or otherwise. Success, basically, is whatever you want it to be. And in my case, success is expressing new ideas to a sizable audience. With my latest web comic, that's exactly what I got. I'm a successful web comic artist whether you don't like it or do. Chemistry Question: What is Hell??

The following is supposedly an actual question given on an American
University chemistry mid-term. The answer was so "profound" that the
professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of
course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic
(absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law
(gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some
variant. One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So
we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the
rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume
that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls
are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different
religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions
state if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.
Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do
not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go
to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of
souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of
change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order
for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume
of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives
two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls
enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase
until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls
in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell
freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Theresa during my Freshman
year that "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you," and
take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then
number 2 must be true...and thus I am sure Hell is exothermic and has
already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell
has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls
and is therefore, extinct...leaving only Heaven, thereby proving the
existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Theresa
kept shouting, "Oh my God."

I imagine everyone here, at some point growing up, has made fun of someone for being a "dork. I know I wanted to be part of the "cool" crowd. Eventually, I came to realize, that "cool" actualy means "asshole" in most cases.

As I've grown up, I've embraced dorks and the dorkiness in me. Dorks rule, plain and simple. Being subjected to marching band, choir, vocal music workshop (you know, that annoying singing and dancing group in high school), stage acting are all ammo for stupid, shallow, judgemental little brats to spew that word "dork", which used to bug the hell out of me. Dorks have depth, sincerety, and honor! All the "cool" people I know are all unhappily married, spawning little armies of assholes to carry on the traditon!

Mars mission blog

Back in 1992, I started work on a comic book/comic strip series called Get Your Ass to Mars. It's the story about a privately-financed international human Mars flight in the year 2005. Back then GYATM was a space epic of the near future. Today GYATM is a space epic of the near present. And since that's the case, I also created what's called a Cheap Mars flight Blog: A blog "written" by one of the crew of the Mars mission. It all comes down to the fact that we can't have a human Mars flight in real life. Therefore, I say we should have a human Mars flight in fiction. The world doesn't have to be the way it is. Likewise, fictional worlds don't have to be the way this world currently is either.

Yup! I'm a real-life 40-year-old virgin. And accoring to my view of things, there's nothing wrong with that. But even so, I would really appreciate it if there was no judgemental response to my vriginal state. I mean, if the U.S. is the free country that so many people claim it is, I should be a virgin for as long as I want and as often as I want. And if I change my mind and I decide to become sexually active, I should be the only one in this or any other universe who has a say on the matter. Any chance that anybody else on this tribe can relate to that?
