Hello,
I'm a newbie just starting out with double baton, and am wondering how this compares with double staff. Are there certain limitaions with these smaller, lighter toys then with staff? Advantages? Is it possible to still do contact moves with batons or are they too light? Thanks!

Re: Baton vs. Staff
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 6:30 PMI'd say that the bigger the stick, the more limitations you run into. I think the only serious limitation of batons is the size of fire you can safely get (if you're interested in fire). If you check youtube for batons, you will see that many baton twirlers are quite a bit ahead of many staff spinners in terms of contact.
The other potential limitation is the geometric visual effects that can be created with double staffs. I don't think many of the effects will come off with quite the impact that you would get with longer staffs (but I've not seen baton twirlers try this vein of spinning before, so I can't really say).
Check my staff playlist for decent examples of both styles:

Tue, May 6, 2008 - 3:51 PMhave you ever spun baton before? if you are s a v v y with the baton--as am i (i started a few yrs ago) i just made some double batons though and am loving it.-=-they do get pretty hot though so constant movement is necessary until the fire dies down a bit. there's a lot of trix you can do with smaller ones that can't be done with bigger--and v versa i'm sure -
