Re: Media
Mon, September 5, 2005 - 1:45 PMhere's a response i got today:
Email Michael at michael@24-7pressrelease.com. He runs 24-7PressRelease.com, my favorite online press release company. Tell him Cheryl Kaye Tardif sent you. He sponsored Project Drumheller's press releases and I've used him for many of my other business's press releases. He's super!
Ask him if he would be willing to sponsor your non-profit organization and give you either free press release coverage or some kind of discount. He's been really great at helping me out for different projects when I've needed it and 24-7 is much more personal and friendly than some of the others I use. Perhaps he could give you a monthly rate....then you could send out mass releases every week. Or he may give you full press sponsorship if you let him know that you'll have him listed as such on your group's website...you do have a website, don't you?
The other thing I'll do is put you in touch with Kate Leighton from Mindful Canada. She may know of a fundraising organization or a way to help you raise funds for your press releases.. I'll send this to her and ask her to contact you if she can think of a way for you to get the word out. She may even be able to include an article on one of her websites...I don't know.
The other thing to do is to go online and start collecting fax numbers and email addys of the major media outlets (TV, radio and newspaper) from each city or country you want to cover. And then fax out your info to the news desks.
Hope this helps!!

Re: Media
Mon, September 5, 2005 - 1:47 PMand another email form Mindfull Canada:
You may want to check out EMS. www.ems.org/about_website.html - the Enviromental Media Services. Good chance your story will be picked up by the enviro-media folks and reporters.
www.topix.net - highly rated site that also accepts enviro-pr's
www.naturalist.com/e-wire/submit.cfm - The naturalist network. Great group, but you do have to pay for the press release. The upside is that they're highly respected and highly read.
www.environmental-expert.com/env....asp - the environmental expert. It's a so-so service, but international.
www.earthvision.net/market/addstory.cfm - EarthVision.
www.theopenpress.com - free press releases
I wouldn't stop at the environmental sites, of course. Many of the well established organizations like greenpeace are well connected. You may want to link arms with them and see where they can help take you. Thankfully many of the organizations will help promote other organizations causes for free.
Just keep in mind that with free press releases you stand a chance of not being showcased as a top story and you may not reach your target audience. Make sure your press release source places you properly - otherwise you may have an enviro story end up in some beauty editor's wire list....and you may be deleted.
Also If you have a good press release and want it posted on MindfulCanada.com, just fire it over to me. We'll review it and possibly put it up.
You might want to even contact the ENN and see if they'd talk to you for a video spot, placement in their forums or an article in the newsletter. Huge huge audience - www.enn.com/ With the ENN I would recommend phoning them and talking to a live person if possible. These places get bombarded by requests via email and so many never make it past the delete button.
Hope this helps some!
