Re: Moab
Wed, September 24, 2008 - 9:08 PMYou ladies did great in Moab, and you looked awesome as always. I dont mean to be rude and I dont want to upset anyone, but I YES Jamilla the audience was very aware of the music situation. It was like watching them all dance to no music at all...we could only hear the top layer of music, there were no drumbeats or lower layers which of course is what most of the dancers were dancing to. And much of the audience cleared out early in the second half. It was really sad, because this show had so many topnotch performers, and many of us traveled quite a distance and spent quite a bit of money to be there for the weekend. I understand that shit happens, but I thought you should know Jamilla, that we in the audience did notice, very much so.
Back to the positive, everyone looked great, and did awesome considering that they couldnt hear their music...good thing we dancers can count...lol. Moab was beautiful, my first time seeing the beautiful arches and the Goddess saw it fit for me to be out of pain enough to hike and see the ones I wanted to see the most. It was great being there with friends and we had alot of fun all in all. I really do want to do the river trip sometime, I bet it is beautiful. -

Re: Moab
Thu, September 25, 2008 - 1:48 PMSorry Aine if you didn't have as good of time you thought you might. We do hope you had fun in supporting and taking part in the many different work shops and other events that made up the festival as a whole.
We who helped put this festival together with Jamilla are finding out what happened that night so repeats are not made.
Every one who took part in putting this festival together feels really heart broken about what happened. We worked our buts off before, during and after the performance night. In the end anything can go wrong no matter how much preparation is put in to it, and it's what we do with our selves in the aftermath that really counts. Every woman that got out on stage and performed under these circumstances embraced the true spirit of the dance and honored those ancestral spirits that dances before them. Kudos to all the girls, the Casbah was rocked !

Re: Moab
Fri, September 26, 2008 - 3:21 PMAdina, you missed the point. Anita, Amy, and Shelly had a great time. I transported them from SLC to Moab, and back again. They didn't need you to tell them if they had a great time
Granted, there were problems with sound, but the people that count, had a great time. If you had a horrible time, I am sorry. Life sucks sometimes. It isn't my problem. -

Re: Moab
Fri, September 26, 2008 - 6:20 PMOkay, I'm going to step in here and just point out that I don't believe either Adina or Aine were attempting to speak against the show, or the hard work that had gone into it. I completely understand your reaction to defend the show, but knowing the ladies that have made these comments, I truly believe that they were not made in the spirit of criticism.
Moab was definitely interesting, in the best way, and I have stated (in private AND here on Tribe) that I would do it again, without question. It was a fantastic show, and I was glad to be a part of it. I believe Adina was making an effort to celebrate the experience of the show by embracing the best parts, and what could be seen as "bad" parts in whole. (Everything in balance. :) ) She wanted to post a thank-you to Amy and Shelly for giving her an awesome viewing experience and to express how much fun she had watching them take what *could* have been a bad situation and making it SO much more fun for the fact that we all joined in and experienced it together.
I also believe that Aine was merely trying to state that the audience did know that there was an issue with the sound. I have read her post and I can see how it could be taken easily as criticism, but my personal knowledge of her manner leads me to believe that she was trying, most of all, to give honesty. (A gift that is too seldom given in life.) I'm sure that, for some, the experience of watching the dancers was less than what they had hoped for, but for "the people that count" (I'm assuming that's us! ;) ) it is still being praised as an enjoyable experience.
For another good review, everyone is welcome to check my recent posts to see the comments that I made about the Festival and my experience there. (It's in a thread called "When do you walk out?" or something similar.) I talked about the situation that had happened with the sound (I still don't know how Dave managed! SO brave in the face of all those irate dancers! :D) and how different people handled it, and made sure to let everyone know that it was NOTHING that could have been prevented by the staff, nor was it their fault in any way. I was glad to have such a novel (and enriching!) experience to share, and will continue to cherish the story of a "bad" performance turned GREAT for years to come!!
Thank you everyone for coming together to create the Festival, it was eye-opening on so many levels, and such a bonding experience! (I'm still thrilled to my toes that I was able to make it to the camp-out AND the partee!!) I can't wait to see what next year brings! :D:D:D -

Re: Moab
Sat, September 27, 2008 - 3:51 PMThank you Amira for coming to my defense. My entire post was to say that I had a good time, in spite of any problems there were. Everyone seemed to be getting soo mad, and it was good to see that the dancers were still having fun! Sorry if anything I said was taken out of context. -

Re: Moab
Sun, September 28, 2008 - 1:54 PMAmira and Adina, thank you I agree with both of you. When I said people that "counted", I meant all the dancers. Everyone, despite all the difficulties had, seemed to have had a great time. I just had a little more time to process everything with Amy and Anita during our drive to Salt Lake.
Every year we learn something new. This year is no exception.
Thanks everyone!!!
